My husband and I stayed with hostess Leslie in September. She is very interesting and well traveled. She offers an amazing breakfast and many helpful tips for things to do in Amsterdam.
The house is very central to everything but also on a quiet little alley off a canal.
We had the double room which was VERY comfortable and lovely. We will definitely go back here next time.

**Note about Amsterdam homes: They have very narrow, steep staircases, sometimes ladder style. If you don't pack light, you may be sorry. Guesthouses do not generally offer bag handling. I noticed some older ladies with huge luggage and no one to help.

I stayed at Aemstelhuys with my sister in October for 3 nights and we really enjoyed our stay at the B&B. Our room in the attic was beautifully presented and the beds very comfortable! The location is fantastic, away from the busier and slightly seedy centre of town, in an area which is filled with friendly locals rather than tourists and stag parties. Although the B&B is in a quiet street it is very close to a street with plenty of bars and restaurants to keep you occupied in the evening and lots of fancy shops to explore during the day. Lesley runs the B&B with a relaxed and friendly style; she is very helpful and welcoming. The tasty and filling breakfast of museli, fresh bread from the local bakery, cheeses and jams is supplemented with Lesley's tales of her globe trotting adventures! I would definitely recommend this B&B to anyone who wants a luxurious stay in somewhere away from tourist traps, for a proper experience of Amsterdam.

Recently spent three nights at the Aemstelhuys B&B and first of all I’d just like to mention the location which is quiet, pretty central and ideal for couples searching for relaxation.

The room we stayed in was in the basement of the proprietor’s charming townhouse. The benefit of this room was that it had its own front door meaning you can come and go as you please without worrying about bothering anyone. En-suite shower room was small but had an excellent shower and plenty of clean towels. The room itself was large with a lovely comfortable bed which made it quite tricky getting up for breakfast. But that was no problem as Lesley (the owner) graciously served breakfast when we staggered out of bed (11am on the first morning!). Tea and coffee making facilities are rare on the continent but Aemstelhuys had these facilities and a welcoming jar of cookies… perfect for the munchies!

Breakfast was as good any continental breakfast we’ve had with a fine selection of cheese, cold meats, preserves, glorious fresh bread and great coffee.

I’d recommend this B&B to any couple wanting a change from soulless hotel rooms. If the room had a small fridge for fresh milk and bubbly then that would help move it to perfection. Can’t wait to return for another chillaxing weekend in Amsterdam. Thanks Lesley.

I enjoyed a lovely two night stay in the double room here with my boyfriend in June. Aemstelhuys Bed & Breakfast is situated in a very quiet street between the Amstel canal and the bustling Utrechtsestraat. We found it to be the perfect distance from the more touristy areas but close enough to walk to all areas of the city. It is also very conveniently located near a tram stop.

The tastefully decorated and very clean room had a private entrance which is great if you fancy a very late night out! The ensuite shower room was small but also very clean with a roomy shower. Bath robes added a touch of luxury and the room also had tea and coffee facilities (but no spoons..my only complaint!).

The bed was extremely comfortable which made it very hard to get up in the morning, but the breakfast was delicious, served in the very light and homely kitchen. Fresh breads, cheeses, meats and delicious warm croissants and pastries washed down with hot cappucinos... a great way to start the day!

The owner, Lesley, was very helpful and friendly and recommended a few places for us to visit.. I would recommend the North Market on a Saturday, and I would definitely recommend the Aemstelhuys Bed & Breakfast as an alternative to all the overpriced and tired hotels that Amsterdam has to offer!
