“Decent dining in touristic area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

I opted for one of the "menus" that was on the list, with a mixture of samples of different plates such as gyros (roasted meat with tzatziki), moussaka (the eggplant casserole), souvlaki (mixed meat), etc. With the soup of the day (tomato in this case), which was creamy and tasty.
The food was quite good, the quantity more than enough to satisfy an hungry person.
The atmosphere was quite relaxing, the staff actually spoke greek and they were never rude.

Even the price was quite ok, considering the amount of food, the netherlands standards and the fact that is right behind Leidseplein, which is in the center of Amsterdam: around 25 euros.

Not the best restaurant I tried, but I surely happened to dine in many worse places. I don't know if I will go back again, but if I happen to go around that area, I might step in again. I guess one should be aware that it might turn out to be a tourist trap for some people.

“Grim Greek”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

Friendly waiter persuaded my wife that he could prepare a delicious vegetarian meal so we gave this place a try. What a mistake!! Horrid hummus and nasty olives were followed by a disgraceful vegetable stew for my wife and one of the nastiest lamb dishes I have ever eaten. Both dishes were topped by an enormous lump of feta cheese!! The lamb was stringy and tasteless, the vegetables were stewed within an inch of their life - soggy, mushy and awful! Avoid Zorba at all costs.

“Fine but no better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Not a part of Amsterdam we usually eat in. Food fine but heavy. Starters were good, especially meatballs. Moussaka top heavy. Fine, but nothing better. Service somewhat blunt; perhaps lost in translation. Would rather try other local Greek restaurants.

“Tourist trap”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

I am writing from the bathroom of "Zorba de Griek" restaurant in Amsterdam, which seems to me to be cleaner than its kitchen.
The food is terrible, their feta cheese comes from a supermarket and the giros meat is grey and tastes like paperboard.
Be very careful about their terrible house red wine: one liter was 17,75€.
Very rude and unprofessional staff made us feel as in a prison canteen.
Those who put excellent rating on this place are high, drunk, owner's relatives or are used to eat stones.
What a nightmare!!!
