“Many happy returns ........”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

This was our third visit this boutique style hotel in the last year and was every bit as good as on previous occasions. Ten minutes by tram from Central Station in a quiet upscale area of the city. The en-suite rooms are basic but extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean. There's a bit of traffic noise to the front of the hotel which wasn't a problem for us, but some people might want to ask for a room to the back of the building. Breakfast was included and was excellent. The young staff are enthusiastic and fantastic - nothing is too much trouble. My only quibble was that the bar prices have increased significantly since our last visit in October 2015. But with lots of great bars and cafes nearby - including the Cafe Kale opposite - this wasn't a major issue. We'll have no hesitation in staying here again when we're next in Amsterdam.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper, ask for a room away from the front of the hotel

From the lobby, the hotel looks great. But be warned, any booking of a double standard room or less you will be in the basement or the secondary building. We booked a double standard room which was in the secondary building up 2 flights of very VERY narrow stairs. Seriously we struggled just getting our carry on luggage up the stairs for fear of falling down. The room is TINY. Again our carry on luggage barely had room to fit. There was no space to lounge around in the room. The bathroom looked fine until you actually took a shower. The half glass 'door' did nothing to prevent water from flooding the floor. Every time we showered, our bathroom floor was completely flooded. Not fun. The room itself was clean and the bed was comfortable. The location was great too because the metro is all around. The WIFI was horrendous....HORRENDOUS! Every time you logged onto one of the many wifi networks, you would get kicked off immediately. The only time we could really connect to the internet was after 11pm because not many guests were online. We thought going to the lobby would be better but same problem. Lastly, you have to turn in your hotel key every time you leave the hotel. Such a strange practice. It interrupts your travel plans having to stop at the front desk to retrieve/drop off your key. Plus the front desk never asked for guest name before handing out the key. And the keys hang on a tree at the front desk so anyone can see which guests are out of the hotel at the moment and could easily get anyone's room key. One plus is the staff is really friendly except for the overnight guy that works the front desk. I found him to be less than friendly and there was a time that we waited at the front desk for 10 minutes just to check out because he wasn't at the desk. Once he showed up, no apology no nothing. He just took our key, looked on the computer, and said everything was paid for. We won't be staying here again. Too bad. It had the hype to be great.

Room Tip: Try to get in main building. The secondary building is not great.

We have just stayed here for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. It is in the perfect spot - just far enough away from hustle and bustle but walking distance to everywhere. We only used number 4 tram to get from station when we arrived (the stop is outside the ticket office at the station and it stops outside hotel). We never used it again as the location of hotel is ideal for exploring on foot. We upgraded to superior room and it was perfect - clean, well presented and very comfy bed after a day pounding the streets! Our room was at the front on 2nd floor and had a good view up and down the street. Breakfast is great - plenty of choice continental style and served in the front of the hotel where you can watch the world go by. Lots of places to eat catering for all tastes. Dutch Resistance Museum well worth a visit as is the Rijksmuseum. Staff at the hotel were great, really informative and only too happy to help. They kept our luggage when we arrived and also when we left as we had a later flight. They even printed our boarding passes for us - nothing was a problem! We would definitely stay again which is highly likely as we couldn't fit everything in that we wanted to see in 3 days. Amsterdam is a beautiful city and Hotel V is a perfect base from which to enjoy it!

Room Tip: Room at front gives best perspective. You can hear the trams but its what you would expect when stay...

I stayed at the Hotel V and found the decor, location and service to be fantastic. Agnes, the awesome Polish lady who works there went above and beyond for us & could not have been more helpful. If you are looking for a fantastic place to stay and feel at home during your stay in Amsterdam, look no further than Hotel V!

Room Tip: Amazing location, value for money, top service, amazing Amsterdam hotel

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights last August and absolutely loved it! The location is right in the middle of most tourist spots - we never had to use public transport once although there is a tram stop right outside for those who prefer not to walk.

Rooms are a little small (we upgraded from a basement room) and the stairs were very steep but that is to be expected in Amsterdam. We stayed in a standard double room which was fine for our stay. No storage space but there is a safe which is free to use and the bathroom was very nice also with a great shower. Bed was comfy for me but a little too soft for my boyfriends back. My only gripe with the room was they could have been a little cleaner! Our sheets were never changed and we kept finding crumbs and dust balls everywhere.

Staff were mega friendly, even booking our taxi for us and storing our luggage safely for us on the last day so that we could spend more time in Amsterdam as we had a later flight. I managed to get myself locked in the downstairs toilets (be aware!) just before our flights but the girl that helped me was very good humoured about it which helped!

We loved the bar and used it quite regularly. Only 3 euros for a house wine and about the same for a beer! Breakfast was delicious and had plenty of choice. Not really anything cooked but plenty of fresh breads, cold meats, fruits, juices and yoghurts which suited us. Try and grab the pastries as they take them out the oven - to die for! Plenty tea choices and good coffee also.

Overall we had an amazing time here and would definitely stay again. Highly recommend!

The location is great. It is walking distance from everything - if you like walking. The tram drops you off right in front of the hotel. Good restaurants in the área. Don´t miss the 3k long market two blocks from the hotel. Our room was rather small, however, the new and larger than usual bathroom compensated. Above all, the staff are friendly and informative.

Stayed in the Hotel V in a single room in the basement. First night it got really noisy due to some machinery. After complaining the next morning I got a new room without any problems and this one was great without noise. All Amenities are up to the task, fast&stable WiFi, breakfast with fresh products, many tv-channels.
The staff was very friendly and chatty, also the hotel is conveniently located just across from several tram stops. You can easily reach the Museumsviertel, Leidseplein Amusement district, central Amsterdam with the Grachten etc. It is located a bit outside the very centre, which suited me fine after reading reviews from other places about constant noise and partying.
So if you want to be in the midst of it all night, this is not the place for you, everybody else will be happy here

Room Tip: Basement room at the far end (Nr. 7) is quite noisy during the night
