“Cool, Friendly Great Hotel - will stay again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

This hotel is rated as a 3 star i believe - but i think it should definitly be 4. Upon arrival the reception staff were really friendly and helped us out every way possible. The breakfast which we dodnt realise was included with a good range of items with complimentary Tea and coffee throughout the day!
The rooms were quite small but perfect and clean with lots of English TV channels on the TV.
Bathroom was very small but i understand that we had one of the smaller rooms.
Good location away from the main centre but only 10/15 minutes on the tram which is right outside. You can pick up the tram tickets from Reception. Perfect Hotel. We will definitly stay here again!

When choosing a hotel for our long weekend in Amsterdam, Hotel V really caught my eye, but I had my doubts about the location. On the map Hotel V seems to be a bit remote from the city centre, but at the end that neighborhood was one of the things I liked the most about it. So don´t let the map fool up!

Hotel V is easy to reach by tram from central station (tram stop just in front of the hotel) and it´s situated perfectly just between Southern Canal Ring and De Pijp areas. Walk two blocks to north and you´ll get to enjoy Utrechtsestraat´s little shops, cozy bars and hidden gem restaurants (loved Pata Negra / Utrechtsestraat 124!!). Or go two blocks south and you´ll end up in the middle of Albert Cuypmarkt street market, which is totally worth visiting for. It´s open from 9am to 5pm everyday except on Sundays and public holidays. Nearest supermarket is just on the other side of the canal (Singelgracht) on Stadhouderskade.

Hotel V is modern hotel with a touch of old Amsterdam. It´s renovated, old building with tiny, steep stairways. We had our room from the top floor in the back building of the hotel. High ceiling, great view to the garden, perfect bed, sleek and modern interior. The room was great although it would have been perfect with at least a tiny fridge, A/C and little more closet space.

Staff was awesome. Warm welcome, professional service and happy smiles. That´s all we needed.

Breakfast is also worth compliments and mentioning for. It was included our room price, which is not that typical in many other hotels in Amsterdam. Breakfast was served in hotel´s spacious lobby bar with huge windows and great street view. It was usually quite crowded between 9am - 10am, but the staff handled it well keeping fresh food and drinks coming. Good variety of tasty food, perfect start to mornings.

So if you are looking for a fresh and different kind of accommodation with great service and don´t want to have noisy bars with bachelor party groups just next door, choose Hotel V! We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms!

The place is very cosy, the rooms are very small, we got the large twin room which is really small. Yet I understand that this is the case when staying in the this part of amsterdam. The staff is very friendly and the breakfast in the lobby offers a variety of food, fruit, cereals, briosches milk coffee yougurt...
Conveniently located close to various tram lines, which is a plus!

Room Tip: go for the large version of the room kind you need, it will be too small in any case!

Had the Hotel recommended by my business contacts as being close by. Funky looking internet site looked nice. The lounge is neatly done with a nice fireplace and quite hip. Check in was super friendly. Reality hit in the room. Dingy room in the basement, cheap furniture and a bathroom too tight to swing a towel. Putting a cute mural on the wall does not make a boutique hotel. Loud music till quite late (which might have been due to election night). In the morning all staff were again super friendly, so definitely a big plus.

All in all the value for money situation is out of sync. Much better hotels for similar prices in Amsterdam.

Conveniently located, this hotel has design merit, particularly in the entrance/reception area. With easy access to public transportation at its doorstep, many of the city's attractions are only minutes away.

However, it should be noted that its room facilities are basic and utilitarian, and in need of refurbishment, or at least a touch-up. I booked a single/small double room which was located in the basement. With little room to move, I then paid to move to a larger room which provided much needed space but at twice the cost, not much more than than the first in terms of amenities. The noise factor as noted in other reviews is a detracting factor, as is the lack of air-conditioning.

Service was also variable. Given that it prides itself on sharing another side of Amsterdam aside from the usual tourist attractions, and as a boutique design hotel, one would expect that all of its staff would be well versed on edgy design stores and the latest cafes and restaurants. However this was not the case and it was only after speaking to one of the managers that relevant, appropriate information was provided.

All in all, Hotel V was acceptable but disappointed because it did not leave up to its promise (or the room rate) and this is perhaps due to its prominent placement on many boutique hotel listings which suggested that it is much more than it really is.

Room Tip: Request a quiet room, and if you must, a larger room.

we stayed 3 nights and was very pleased with the hotel. Everything was how it was described on the website so there was no surprises which is good! The breakfast was LOVELY! and the staff were friendly and helpful. Nice relaxed atmosphere Not too far away from centre but far enough to get away from crowds. Great value for money , would stay there again.
