“Clean design hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

Clean design hotel, good breakfast, comfy beds, free wifi, one negative point are the windows with single glass, they are not very noise canceling and the rooms on the pictures are looking bigger.

Went 1-4 September 2011 and I was pleased with the breakfast and room. Only wish the location was a bit closer to the city centre, but the tram ride is quite swift.
My guess is that if it were closer it would have cost a lot more! Much better than my last experience in Amsterdam (Hotel Bema - read my review - I shall say no more!)

The staff were friendly and it was a safe location that you could take nice walks from. I would probably come back!

Room Tip: Nice crash pad to get to the city centre. Good value

I loved our room. We got an XL King Size or something. The room was small, but was put together well. The bathroom was nice (small, but nice), and the bed was soooooo comfortable. Everything was great except for one thing. We blew a fuse around midnight, and they refused to fix it until the maid came to clean our room the next day.... at 2:00pm! That's 14 hours without power! But whatever, they fixed it, and I forgot about the whole incident.

Would recommend this hotel, but ONLY if you get the XL rooms. I can't imagine how much smaller the rooms could be!

Room Tip: Opt for the XL Room!

Good: This has a great location. It is right by the Rjistaadt, Van Gogh and Henienken Experience. Within walking distance but you can also take the tram which is like an elevated subway. The tram stop in literally right in front of the hotel and they sell tram passes at the hotel. It will take you all across the city and to Centraal Station for trains and airport shuttle. It also is in a quaint neighborhood with restaurants and bars. The service from the staff was really good and their English was the best in Europe. They have Wi-Fi and 2 computers near the front desk with free internet. they will also print anything for you. The bar area seemed very modern and up to date. N

Bad: This is all about the room. We stayed one night and thank goodness that is all. We were downstairs in a room which is the size of a normal American bathroom. There was not even room to open our luggage. This did not look like any pictures of rooms that I saw. it also said there was a safe. We searched and never found one. For $186 a night, this was a joke. The bed was a double thank goodness. There was a rolling closet but it could not hold much. We will not even talk about how small the bathrooms are. Lets just say we were glad we stayed out really late so we could just come home and sleep. We left the next day at 5am so overall it was only a place to crash and dash.

I would not stay here again, but I would come for a drink.

I travelled here for a trip with friends.

The hotel is designed very nicely - however I do not see this as a hotel that gives value for money.

The rooms are incredibly basic and SMALL!!! - the breakfast is standard and the location is not so near the main square.

Staff do try to accommodate and although ive stayed at boutique hotels - this one is not there yet.

Room Tip: one or two days stay max

Me and my boyfriend have just come back from Amsterdam and we stayed here for 3 nights. You couldnt ask for a better hotel, the staff are all lovely, the hotel is very modern and decorated really nice. There's a tram station literally right outside the hotel and all you need to do is catch tram number 4 or 25 to go to Dam Square (where all the main attractions are). The trams also run every 10 minutes so you couldnt miss a tram if you tried to.
We were based in the basement of the hotel and after reading the other reviews of how small the rooms were, they are small but if your like us and not botherd about the room size and you just need a bed to sleep in then thats all that matters, But if your willing to pay extra just to get a bigger room then i would advise you to do that. Next time we are visiting the hotel we are going to get a bigger room only because it would be nice just get a bit of leg room and to walk about the room a lot more.
All in all a really nice hotel, i couldnt fault it at all. We will be definetly staying here next time we visti Amsterdam :)

V (the actual name of the hotel - Fredericksplein is just the location) is located south of the city center, 30 minutes walking or 10 minutes from the metro station. The location is a fairly quiet neighborhood only 10 minutes walking to the museums (Rijks and Van Gogh). The first thing you notice is how good the staff is. Everyone was young, spoke fluent english, and were very helpful and nice. the lobby is very nice looking - large windows overlooking the street, modern architecture, and a nice fireplace. They offer free coffee/tea/hot chocolate at any time. The free breakfast down here was also very nice. Our room was nice - although probably the smallest of any we stayed in in Europe. As other reviewers have noted, not a big deal if you spend most of your time sightseeing. Overall a good value for our money and we would recommend this hotel highly.
