“Intimate, quiet, elegant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

Even though it's easy to get to from anywhere central, you have a feeling of being off the path here, along with only twenty-seven other clever folks who've found the way to the very pleasant Lastage. Artfully prepared food, lovely servers,a relaxed atmosphere. Not fast: this is a place to spend the evening.

“Excellent and well deserved the Michelin star”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

Service was excellent! Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Hugh range of wines to choose! check out their menu online.
We had the peach dessert wine which was recommended by one of the staff. think it is called "UNO" (italian). It is an extremely good dessert wine. Not too sweet and the taste of peach was delicious!

We went for 4 courses but there were 2 complimentary appetizers on top of that and a pre dessert. which gives us a total of 7 different courses.

you do not have to dress too formal as the restaurant itself is quite casual with only about 9 tables in total. It is a small restaurant. Unlike some of the fine dining places, Lastage is actually quite casual but obviously I didnt see anyone with hoodies or slippers.

It is definitely a ONE star michelin restaurant. You can expect good food and friendly service at Lastage.

“Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

Just a block from Central Station is Lastage -- a fabulous restaurant that seats only 28. Reservations are a must although we were able to get a mid week reservation with only a week's notice. The 3 course menu is 39 Euros and one can order up to 6 courses for about an additional 8 Euros each. The menu changes about every 4-5 weeks. Before we even ordered an amuse bouche was placed in front of us, followed by another after we ordered. Then just before the dessert course yet another amuse bouche appears -- this one sweet in order to prepare your taste buds for the dessert. To try and describe the food is to not do it justice. A lot of seafood is used including shell fish and the meat entree was pork. Fantastic food .

“Really excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2012

One of the best meals I have had in Europe outside of Paris. Innovative cuisine yet sufficiently conservative to make for a filling and tasty meal with no weird "what the ^%$& was that moments". Service was impeccable, yet not stiff at all. Prices are more than reasonable given the quality of the food. Not a bad dish in our four course menu for 48 Euros. I recommend this restaurant highly.

“Good, great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2012

Lastage opened up less than two years ago at a stone’s throw from Amsterdam Central station. I tried it last year and was impressed with the quality of the food, wine, and service, especially considering the very affordable prices. Meanwhile they have been awarded a Michelin star, but the prices are still the same. You can choose 3 to 6 courses with 2 choices per course for 38 to 62 euros (US$ 48 to 78 at today’s exchange rate), with matching wines for 7.50 euros ($9.50) per glass. Given this price level this is a very good place for a casual dinner like I had last night with one of my best friends.

Tartare of mackerel with apple, beetroot, water cress and lobster terrine
It looks great but the lobster lacks flavor. 7/10
Paired with a Spanish white from 4 local grapes including albariño. The wine didn’t clash, but wasn’t a great match either.

Nage with cockles, cod, razor clam and kohlrabi
Again great presentation and this time a lot of flavor. 8/10
Paired OK with a Spanish garnacha blanca from Penedes.

Monkfish in San Daniele prosciutto
Classic combination, good texture of the monkfish. 8/10
Good pairing with a Sicilian white from the Etna, made from local grapes.

Lamb saddle and lamb neck confit with white asparagus, chevre charolais, mushrooms and sea lavender
Very tender lamb (cooked sous-vide?). 8/10
Pairing with Valpolicella did not work as the bold flavors of the Valpolicella overpowered the elegant taste of the lamb. I left half my glass and the waitress just took it away without asking anything. My friend had seabass paired with a 100% sauvignon oaked white Bordeaux that was good as well as a good pairing.

Chocolate, champagne sabayon, vanilla ice-cream and strawberries
Nice combination of flavors and textures. 8/10
The very nice Zweigelt Beerenauslese from Neusiedlersee, Austria paired very well with the strawberries but not so much with the chocolate.

Like I recently wrote about Combal.Zero, a ‘sequel’ to a restaurant visit is always difficult. There are other restaurants in Amsterdam with the same quality and price level without a Michelin star, but that doesn’t mean that Lastage is not a great place to go. In my memory the wine pairings were better last year and the food was more original. The food looks great, but perhaps a bit more attention could be given to the taste as well. Having said that, it’s definitely a recommended place to go, which I’d rate 8/10 for food and service and 7/10 for the wine pairings (8/10 for the quality of the wines).
