“interesting to visit for a quick meal, if only for the location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

On top op the still rather new library (constructed some 5 years ago, I think) is this La Place-restaurant, that most Dutch people know because of the La Place restaurants that exist in most V&D department stores.

As in every La Place, the food that is served is of reasonable to good quality, with a large choice of vegetables and salads (something that cannot be said for every restaurant with prices that are as reasonable as at La Place).
La Place also has a good choice of sweet things to go with your coffee or tea, if you don't feel like eating a proper meal yet.

This La Place is recommendable to go to for its location. It is located on top of a library that itself is worth a visit and you have a view looking out over the city. When the weather is good, one can eat or drink coffee at the terrace.
The place is in walking distance from Amsterdam central station and for people who are looking for a place to eat near there, that is not too expensive, but offers food of a good quality. I definitely reccomend the La Place on top of the library (Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam, OBA in short).

“Finding how to construct your meal takes time but its worth it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

The first time we went here we really were confused about how to construct our meal, there is a lot of choice and notices telling what not to do 'Do not put salad on plate with chicken', but little postive instruction. However the steak and fries were excellent so we went back. Our tips would be - if you are in a couple get a large salad and share as this is more cost effective than buying two smaller salads, choose a main meat course and away you go. We ate with a view over the canal which was great and the apple tart is good too. Recommended.

“Good food, good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

Good cafeteria style place. Food is displayed very nicely and tastes good. Decent value. Location is very close to the Mint tower, right on the main shopping street.

This place is also recommended in Rick Steves book.

“Great place to eat and chill out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013 via mobile

I stumbled across this place whilst wandering around. It has a great feel to it. I was impressed with the large selection of food on offer - in both the supermarket and cafe areas. They have some great fruit cocktails to choose from - all fresh. As others have noted the service could be improved in terms of speediness but staff were friendly.

It is not cheap but not too expensive either. I ate there for dinner. Lots of seating upstairs in light and airy cafe. Worth some of your time and money!
