“Best restaurant of my life”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

Some describe the decor of this restaurant as "simple" or "sober". I don't understand that. I think it is quite lush, with great lighting, paintings, a fireplace, flower arrangements. I really loved it. The stone floor did not cause noises. Take the restaurant entrance at left, not that of the hotel.
8 tables, set wide apart so you don't hear your neighbours very well. I had asked and got a table in the back corner. Had a special winter menu for a very good price, which is over now.
Various small starters (amuses), 4 courses of mainly vegetables, all very delicious and soft.
Great service. We sat there for 4 hours but never had to wait long. Took no wine arrangement but had a glass of 10 year old Madeira (about 10 euro a glass), as I love this wine and island, and nothing is too strange for them. Even the head chef came to our table.
No music and I love that as I need quietness which this restaurant gave superbly despite being full. With our tea came some small sweets which we could take home in a small box.
Everything was perfect and so this was my best restaurant experience.
I hope they get their second Michelin star back (now one). At about 25th place of best Dutch restaurants (of a culinary magazine).

“Excellent food, very pricy, bit on the formal side”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

I'm not the kind of person that likes to dine in Michelin star restaurants but we decided to give it a go for a special occasion and Vermeer happened to have a table available for the same night.
You enter a sober, classic, bright white dining room with about 6 or 7 tables. The atmosphere is just a bit on the formal side, but nothing too fancy.
After ordering your menu, you are presented with an endless array of small dishes, all delicious and exquisitely presented. In between come just as many glasses of wine, all enthusiastically introduced by the sommelier.
The evening's highlight comes when you are invited to enjoy one dish at a table right in the middle of the kitchen, from where you witness how the staff quietly works passed you, in a highly organized way, to get all the dishes ready in time. Even a chat with the British chef is part of the menu. (He claims that in the mornings he likes to visit the neighborhood farms where much of his ingredients and animals come from.)
At the end of the night, expect to pay a couple of hundred euros for two people. Not something to do on a daily basis, but for a special night out it's just very good.

“A well deserved Michelin star”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013 via mobile

An elegant, but simple atmosphere, an attentive staff, and, above all, some great dishes make eating here an outstanding experience.
The 4-course menu (preceded by uncountable amuse-bouches, and followed by delicious friandises) is a wonderful journey amongst the different realms of the cuisine (our menu included: a vegetable, a fish, and a meat dish, and a dessert). All the ingredients are genuine and simple, and are cooked and combined in a creative, but not over-complicated way. The result allows you to mix different flavours, being nevertheless able to distinguish those of each ingredient.
Even though we took a menu, the staff was very flexible, and changed one of the courses for my partner, to accommodate his tastes.
Also, the wine list is at par with all the rest.
A must keep!

“Disappointment is not on the menu!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

This was our 2nd visit and once again food, service and ambience of the highest order. You could expect this to be a stuffy experience but we had a relaxing fun evening with the most amazing food at a reasonable price. All the staff were fantastic...can't praise the Vermeer highly enough.

Fabulous entourage, food and wine and they really made an effort making us feel comfortable.

I'll save up and come back again next year.
