We were a bit suspicious, but very pleasantly surprised: very kind staff, good food, reasonable price ... and just behiond the corner at walking disctance of the hotel.

“Excellent food and atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

Even though a tour bus of 40 showed up while we were waiting in line, we eventually obtained seating and had an excellent dinner.

“Lucked Out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013 via mobile

Our hotel reception desk recommended Rearaurant Haesje Claes if we wNted "to eat Dutch food." We appeared at their door fifteen minutes before they opened for lunch and were seated at one of only a couple of tables not already reserved. We both had the luncheon special of a stamppot with sauerkraut, meatball, sausage, and bacon. It was excellent as was the service rendered.

“Wonderful Find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

What a find. We had a lovely four night stay in Amsterdam but struggled to find a more traditional restaurant the first two nights. After a fairly long walk and feeling resigned to a pizza we stumbled upon Haesje Claes at 9.15. We managed to get a nice table in an absolutely buzzing cosy restaurant with attentive waiters and waitresses (one who recognised my West country accent, she came from Weymouth!). The food was absolutely wonderful. My sirloin was almost certainly a fillet and cooked perfectly. Ann's cod was superb with just the right amount of vegetables including the most creamy mash.
We were so impressed we decided to go back for our last evening meal so we popped in a 5.30. The restaurant was heaving even at that hour and we were lucky to get a table at 8.15.
Once again the food was terrific and service excellent.
If you are visiting Amsterdam please look up Haesje Claes, you won't be disappointed. It's not hard to find, just a little way from the Town Hall.

“Typical Dutch, but more a tourist attraction”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

Hardly any dutch guests here; this restaurant is most probably mentioned/promoted in many foreign travelguides.
However, the food is of a good quality. The place was packed but this might have to do with the many tourists in Amsterdam around the coronation activities of the new king on 30th April. Reservations are in order!
Seating and decor are nice. Many typical Dutch dishes on the menu. Preparation is good. For for really typical Dutch restaurants you'd better go off the beaten track.
Service is like a regular Diner is the USA. Not of the highest standard!
All in all; good food, nothing special but good value for money.
