“Tasty with amazing service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

Just finished dinner at Blauw, it was delicious, service was amazing , every food they served and wine they poured was with a smile, they were so happy to provide us with amazing mouthfuls of pleasure. It was my first visit but not my last, thank you for a great evening, thank you for a great experience, I left there with such a great taste in my mouth x Ruth Ireland.

“Indeed a little gem in the middle of the red light district”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

This cosy (gezellig) but upscale restaurant is located in the middle of the red light district and not that easy to find. However, it is certainy worth while looking for it! It is relatively small and rather popular, so you need to reserve a table. It is located in an old warehouse for spices from the 15th century. Service is very personal (the owner will sit at your table explaining the menu). The menu is limited (two appetizers, two main courses, two desserts; willingness to adapt a course, e.g. vegetarian). The quality of the food is very good. It is nicely presented and somewhat creative in terms of choice of ingredients. Pricing is reasonable, certainly relative to the quality and atmosphere. They serve very nice wine by the glass (if you ask for a glass of wine accompanying your meal, they pour you a glass and leave the bottle on the table in case you wish to refill). If you are in a hurry, you should say so, because the atmosphere is relaxed and if all tables are taken, service may take somewhat longer. Suitable for a romantic dinner, but also for a business dinner with guests that are in for dining off the beaten track. In order to get to the restaurant you need to pass through the red light district and will pass various coffee shops and prostitutes/sex shops, so your guests should be either used to this typical Amsterdam scene or be generally open minded. In the summer, there is a terrace on an inner court yard.

“Wonderful Dining Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

This restaurant is a hidden jewel off a small alleyway in the Red Light District. Small, initimate, romantic serving innovative and interesting meals. The owner is welcoming, friendly and helpful. Where else does the owner sit down at your table to explain the menu for the evening and see how you would like to have the meal served. If you are looking for a great meal, good service in a comfortable atmosphere this is the place. Try not to miss this restaurant on your next visit to Amsterdam.

“Worth seeking out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

This is a gem of a restaurant, tiny and tucked away down a long alley in the red light district, you must make reservations well in advance but it is so worth it. Three course fixed menu, but they will make something different for you if you ask. I had a vegetarian and seafood meal which was memorable. The owner was very charming and actually pulled up a chair and discussed each course, plus recommended wonderful and not too expensive wines to go with the food, and dispensed lots of gossip about the area at the same time. Very entertaining evening!

“Excellent in every way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012 via mobile

This was recommended by a Dutch friend of mine when I asked her if she knew any romantic restaurants. The restaurant is tucked away down an alley in the central (not terribly salubrious) part of town. Once inside, though, you are essentially in an old town house, with dining on several levels and lots of stripped wooden flooring and understated decor. The menu is very short (two options per course) but with food this good, who cares? The service is friendly and knowledgeable and the wines suggested with the courses were excellent. The pace of service is also good - unhurried without being slow. It's not cheap but my girlfriend and I had a truly lovely evening and would definitely go back.
