“Stunning Collection.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2014

Eventually found this museum and well worth a visit. Simply stunning collection in a beautiful old building. Loved the atmospheric soft lighting and display settings. Did not have time for refreshments but the lovely coffee shop area had some especially beautiful treats on show. Their web site worth a look to see the afternoon teas on offer, I intend to go back some day and treat myself to a bit of old fashioned glamorously elegant presentation and food! Loved it, definitely one for the ladies. Barbie exhibition definitely a fun memory jogger.

“An offbeat, but interesting museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2014

Did you know that until the pocket was invented, men carried handbags as well as women? This museum is full of the handbags that (rich) people carried from the Middle Ages onward. There are a tremendous number of bags in in many styles. You'll also learn a great deal about fashion through the centuries here. It is a kind of offbeat place, but worth visiting. In 2 hours you can see most of it.

“jewel little museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2014

A jewel of a little museum that we stumble upon walking along the canals. Very well presented, just not enough modern bags.
Don't miss the afternoon tea in the reception room of the house, brings you to another era.

“Topnotch, a real delight!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2014

I just love the Handbag museum in AMS! Believe it's the only one of its kind. It's totally charming. This time there was an exposition of fans as well, sporting company logos. First form of advertisement? Have a look! We had High Tea overlooking the Herengracht. Bliss!

“A Real Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2014

I thoroughly enjoyed this museum. The collection spans over 400 years, the Barbies displayed in celebration of her 50th anniversary in The Netherlands were beautifully displayed and fun to look at, and the temporary exhibit of fans was unusual and interesting. The building itself, with its two formal rooms with magnificent fireplaces, sumptuous wall papers and ceiling paintings were extra special. High tea is served there and I will be certain to look into that next time. The shop also had some stylish handbags and a catalogue raisonne for only 15 euro. As an artist and quilter, I found it an inspiring place to visit.
