Stayokay Zeeburg is located a bit outside city centre but super accesible by tram.
Hostel rooms are great and colourful. Staff were extra helpful and nice. Breakfast was great. A great experience and choice for someone who would like to travel to Amsterdam and stay "away" from city centre.

The hostel is not in the center, however it is pretty close by tram or by bus. You can take either bus 22 direction Indische Buurt or the tram 14, both from the Central Station.
I prefered to walk and it is a 20 to 25 minute walk from the Central Station to the hostel, its a nice walk because you can see the streets outside the center. It may not be a path you may want to walk several times, but there are plenty of paths you can take to the hostel or from the hostel. I also walked from the hostel to the Heineken brewery and it took me 20 minutes, from the red light district to the hostel 20 minutes. If you don't like walking you can always take the public transport.
The hostel itself is located in a very nice neighborhood, it has a playground infront of it so you might see families with children, the building is very big so its difficult not to see it.
I stayed in a 6-bed room, it had plenty of space. When i arrived, the clean blankets were on my bed wrapped in a plastic bag. Beware! There's no towel included!!! I thought it was and i didn't bring mine, anyway you can rent one. There are no lockers in the room but next to the reception you can use them, they are not free though.
Rooms have a toilet and a shower, so sharing between 6 people is not difficult.
The breakfast is quite good, you have everything to make a good sandwich (different types of bread, ham, salami, cheese, etc.), fruit (apples, bannanas and pears), boiled eggs, coffee, teas, milk, cereal and juice.
There is wifi in the lobby and on the first floor, its free but if you want to rent a PC it will cost you depending on how long you're gonna use it.
The staff is very kind and helpful, i have no complaints about anything. To check-in is easy and so is to check-out.
I definitely recommend it!!!

Room Tip: If you want to use WiFi in your room get a first-floor room!

Amsterdam rooms are expensive in general, and this hostel was no exception. This is a very large facility. Wifi was free in lobby only, but slow and spotty. Breakfast was free and had basic fare. Location is outside of the central areas. The tram or bus to/from Amsterdam Centraal train station took about 30 minutes. The tram #14 drops off about 1 block away. The night bus drops about 3 blocks away. They have big common areas. The entire first level has very large meeting rooms.
My biggest problem was with the in-room shower. It was not cleaned properly and had a strong mildew odor. It was not properly ventilated.
Staff is very competent, but not overly friendly.

I loved this hostel! It's a bit out of the tourist centre, which is fine by me as it left me a 30-minute scenic walk late at night along the canals each night to get home. In the mornings, I went exploring in the neighborhoods around the hostel, which are not touristy at all - just a great way to engage the locals and see what day-to-day life in Amsterdam is all about. As far as I'm concerned, the location is a big plus.

The facility itself is fantastic - great free wifi, nice little pub with a great, friendly bartender, new linen and beds, everything is extremely clean and well-organized. The breakfast is GREAT. I highly recommend this place!

I traveled earlier this year with a group of colleagues to Amsterdam, and stayed at the Stayokay.

I have to admit to being pleasantly surprised at this hostel.

I'm normally not entirely trusting of hostels (or 'hostiles' as I sometimes call them. Not my cup of tea), but this one was, as the saying goes 'cheap and cheerful' (Emphasis on the 'Cheerful' bit). Which when travelling on a shoestring budget is a welcomed thing.

It is easily accessible from public transport (if I can get from Schiphol airport to the Stayokay with my suspect sense of direction, anyone can!) and surprisingly close to the city centre (a group of us walked all the way to Amsterdam city centre one night. Took the tram on the way back) and to many attractions (Amsterdam Zoo is a hop and a skip away). So location wise it is good value for money.

The rooms are basic (as you would find in any hostel), and I slept with five other colleagues. Still, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom clean and the surroundings pleasantly tranquil. Food at the hostel cafeteria is plentiful, if mostly predictably packed-sauce based, but the dutch are very good at their packet sauces. Breakfast was also quite good, and we had a meal packet with the hostel that ensured my colleagues and I had lunch provided. Sandwiches, but very tasty. The hostel bar was also a fantastic place with a vibrant, youthful but not asphyxiating raucous atmosphere. It was also the one place we preferred to buy drinks in (after having to pay 7 euros for a beer in Amsterdam City Centre). Again, cheap and cheerful.

The staff were always helpful and courteous, though the direct Dutch approach to things is something that you have to adjust a bit to. (And the Dutch are fantastic hosts). :-)

If you go to Amsterdam on a budget, this is definitely a place worth serious consideration.
