“OK but not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2014

The hotel location is not in the center of Amsterdam, but easy tram/bus service around the corner. Bathroom was not clean on arrival but upon calling reception somebody immediately took care of it. Room is comfortable and surprisingly good beds. The hotel atmosphere was not romantic or trendy- just business-like and impersonal.

The lobby was dirty, they did not have a change for cash payment, and send me to go to a bank near by ( '" like others do" ), when I said its Sunday, they said its my problem and used my credit card.
Room was not ready at 17:00, they asked me to wait 40 minutes. When refused they send me to other room that was dirty and with maintenance problems.
Never such an experience in a Best Western Hotel

We've booked quadruple room and we needed to make a prepayment for visa. Prepayment was done smoothly and response was very quick. When we've arrived there was no free quadruple room, so we have received 2 double rooms for the same price. There are free discounts for the most famous Amsterdam museums and places at the hotel. Though the breakfast is not very expensive (10 euro if early booking), but is very tasty and very diverse. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and tidy. Though I was in 4 hotels during the last trip and they were almost the at same price - BEST WESTERN Blue Tower Hotel rocks! It was the best hotel where we have stayed

“Nice hotel at an Excellent location -with or without car”
Reviewed 1 week agoNEW
The hotel is located at a 3 minutes' walk from the bus and tram stop to the heart of the city; with very frequent connections (we never had to wait more than 5 minutes).

Moreover the Park and Ride car park Bos en Lommer is right next door! With a door in the lobby giving direct access to the carpark, so extremely easy to get your luggage in and out the hotel.

The rooms are quite spacious, compared to what you get in the centre of the city.We had a look in romm 715 which was really nice with big windows. Unfortunately it had a double bed, so we changed to 718 , a less spacious but still ample twin room.

There are sufficient units to store things and the bathroom has a nice big sink top to put all your toilet articles on.

There are three elevators, so you never have to wait for the lift too long.

Breakfast is very quite good; with fresh rolls, yoghurt, fresh fruit and vegetables, scrambled eggs , bacon,...And breakfast is from 6.30 am till 11 am!
In the lobby there's always a bowl with apples .

You only have to check out at 12 am, coming in handy when you made it a bit late that last night in Amsterdam ;)

The only minus: the dustbins are not emptied every day and the banging of the doors by the hotel guests. But that's not really the hotel's fault , is it?

We'll definitely choose this hotel again when visiting A'dam next time!

Good hotel chosen mainly for car parking in Amsterdam. Easy tram service to the centre of the city. Helpful caring staff who dealt well with power failure in the local region. Clean comfortable room. Good restaurant, offered good value for money but restricted menu and lacked atmosphere for dinner, we were the only people eating there one night. Good breakfasts.

We stayed here July 6 - 9, 2014 with 2 adults & 2 children so we booked a quad room.

Upon arriving to our Room 920, the A/C wasnt working. We got moved to 1109 assured that A/C worked in that room. It did not. It never worked our whole stay. We complained next morning & the manager came to room. She saw that A/C did not work. Also 1 of the windows didn't open so we couldnt fully ventilate the room. Later, she offered us another room but it would not be ready for several hours. We told her we already moved once. We only had 3 days in Amsterdam...didnt want to pack & move again. Plus, we were meeting friends to go site seeing. Obviously when we returned the A/C wasnt fixed. They left us a fan to use.

Also, we were disappointed the elevator did not go all the way to 11th floor. We have 2 small children & carrying 2 strollers & gear each time to get to or leave room was not appreciated.

The water pressure changed frequently during showers to the point where water completely stops, then restarts. The water temp varied also some times being very hot & almost scolding our 4 yr old. She jumped out of shower crying.

The last night of our stay, we came in early to watch the World Cup Germany v Brazil. Our TV had no image. By the time someone from the front desk came to fix it, we missed almost the entire 1st half...missing 4 of the 5 goals scored...very upset about this.

In addition, our cousin who was visiting Amsterdam with us checked out of the hotel early because the 1st 2 rooms they were given had black mold in the bathrooms.

I asked to speak to the manager upon check out to voice my displeasure about our stay but I was informed that she was on vacation for 2 weeks.

Since then, the management has apologized & refunded our entire stay. However, with so many hotel choices in Amsterdam, I would NOT recommend staying at this hotel.

Pros:
My children and I had an enjoyable stay. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful when we required assistance. The triple room was clean, and the beds were comfortable. Even though we were approximately 20 minutes from the centre, travelling on public transportation was pleasant. I did not mind travelling on the trams because it was a great opportunity for my children to explore the city. The area is surrounded by a market, local restaurants and two supermarkets, making it a cheaper alternative to purchase food. I actually liked the neighbourhood and found the local residents friendly and helpful. The latest we stayed out was 9:15 pm when it was still bright, and during this time, we did not experience any challenges. We felt safe and did not feel uneasy - as opposed to a few other reviews.

Cons:
The main complaint was being placed by the elevator. The doors slamming at night and early morning was a real nuisance. Maybe the hotel could look into some sort of door cushion that does not go against safety standards to help alleviate the banging of the door.Trying to sleep at night when others are going in and out of the hallway to access the elevator was a real pain - you could hear the vibration filter through the walls. I have seen other reviews refer to this, so maybe the hotel could look into this. This was why my overall rating was a 3 and not 4. Lack of sleep when one has jet lag does not help the overall experience.

I would definitely stay here again - as long as it it not near the elevator!

Room Tip: Request that your room is away from the elevator. The banging of the hallway door to access the elev...
