“Dissapointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

I booked a double bed. It was under the stairs, had two single duvet's on the bed with no covers on pillows or duvet's!! The lighting was very bad, you could barely see in the room and the window was tiny which led out to a back roof. You had to hold the shower in you hand as there was no hook and the ceiling in the bathroom was about six feet high. They also said the hire bikes which they don't and the staff weren't all the friendly. Faulty towers.

The hotel is a little beat up, but the beds were clean and staff were very polite.

This location is great for people who want to stay close to the center of the city, without the associated noise (the church bells were only distant background noise).

I've been to a few of these types of hotels in Amsterdam (cheap/close to trains station) and they are fine for their purpose but would not recommend to families.

I stayed in this rundown hovel for 5 nights in September 2013 more important than the appearance of the place was the hazardous condition of the stair case and the bedroom wiring, would fail a health and safety inspection in the UK. Not reading the reviews was an expensive lesson learnt. Other tourists thinking this Hotel is value for money think again!

Room Tip: Road noise was intrusive due to single glazed windows at the front. Ground floor rear room smelt of...

Don't believe the photos advertised, they are very untrue.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. It's a disgrace. Sockets hanging off the wall, stair case banister broken and unstable, toilets absolutely disgusting with a very bad smell, Dial 9 in case of fire??? no telephone in rooms.
This hotel is in desperate need of renovation and should be closed down until it is made safe and before anything nasty / hazardous occurs.
Surely there must be a dutch standard for hotel regulations.

The smell of dampness and decay greeted us on entry to this grim, neglected and depressing building. We were required to pay up front for our 5 night stay. Naively, we did which meant we were stuck there because we couldn't afford to forfeit the charge and go elsewhere. Room 16 was damp and dingy, the lights were faulty, we had to grope around before we found one that worked. The en suite was unclean and again with faulty lights, one dangling from the ceiling (not fixed) would come on if you waggled it around, but then would go off again. The handbasin was without a stopper. After an uncomfortable night I listed 5 of the more obvious faults and asked that they be fixed. The receptionist suggested another room. Room 22 was upstairs (no lift) and was a better room though it did face a dual carriageway road and was without double glazing, it was noisy. However, I bought some earplugs and we put up with it. Though once again we were without a stopper for the handbasin and the WC leaked. Although reported, nothing was done about it. The breakfast was basic and a sense of melancholy seemed to be prevalent in this breakfast room, a very high ceiling and dark panelled walls adorned with huge paintings as big as 3 x 8m all in a state of disrepair added to the gloom. It had no doubt seen grander days, but that would be a very long time ago. The staff seemed generally indifferent, as though they too, along with building, were ready to give up.

Room Tip: If there is nowhere else and you have to go there and you don't mind lugging you bags up the st...
