“This hotel shouldn't cost 135 euros a night”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2014

If I paid 60-70 Euros for this hotel I would have been happy. However I expect more for 135/night.

- When we arrived they had “upgraded” us to a large double room but it smelled strongly of cigarette smoke (made worse by trying to cover it up with artificial air freshener). I started to have an asthma episode within a few minutes in the room. Qbic is a non-smoking hotel. We asked to be moved to another room and thankfully they obliged and put us in a basic room with windows, which is what we originally paid for.

-There is no door to the toilet which means the other occupants can hear/smell you as you go about your private business. Not sexy at all.

- The bathroom was so tiny and didn’t have curtains so everything around gets wet when you shower.

- The shower didn’t drain well so you were standing in an inch of water while showering and there were molds in the sides of the shower floor. Quite gross. Picture below. I recommend bringing rubber slippers.

- Centralized heating/air-conditioning so there is no way to turn up/down the AC if you are feeling hot/cold.

On a positive note:

- The room was modern
- The bed was big and comfortable
- Having windows were nice
- TV (though we never used it)
- Free WIFI in the room and in the common area
- Great accessible location beside the Zuid Trainstation and a tram station, a few stops away from Schipol airport
- Quiet despite being beside the station (sound-proofed)

Room Tip: I don't recommend the room facing the train station in warm sunny weather because it's too h...

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. Our apologies for any inconvenience you’ve experienced during your stay. The absence of a bathroom door might be unusual, though there are public restrooms on every floor opposite of the elevator. The temperature can’t be adjusted from inside the room but our service managers are happy to do it for you. Please don’t hesitate to ask this!
We are indeed a non smoking room. We are very sorry that it still smelled like sigarettes, this is not our Qbic standard and bot pleasant at all! If you have any questions or requests regarding your stay please contact management@qbichotels.com.
Off course we hope to welcome you again to make sure you will get the best Qbic experience possible!

We loved it here, everywhere you look you discover something like "I want this in my home!" :) It's a bit far from the center, but the connections are very good. Also, there is no door to the bathroom, but that is the design :)

We love that you loved it! We can tell you where to find all the stuff you saw in our hotel. You can contact us via social media, or come again off course  Public transportation is a big plus in the business district. Train, tram and metro are within walking distance and they will bring you to the city centre, the central train station or the airport in no time! So the connections are very good indeed!

With kind regards

I stayed in the Qbic Hotel in Amsterdam in Mai 2014. Me and my boyfriend enjoyed our stay. The hotel is located a few minutes from Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam Zuid. There is a Tram (No 5) to Central Station and all places like Museumplain, Leidsplain etc. it's fast. The only negative thing would be that the last tram from Central Station in the evening is at midnight. But we would definitely choose this hotel again as very good price for Amsterdam, new, modern Hotel.

Hi,

Good to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us! The hotel is indeed very close to the airport. Six high-speed trains per hour, which will bring you to Schiphol in less than 10 minutes. I would recommend to take bus 358 from central station after midnight. It takes a bit longer to reach the hotel but is accessible till 06:00 AM!

Hope to see you again in Qbic Amsterdam!

The hotel is clean and is close to the subway and tram and that make easy to go anywhere. We did not have any problem to find the hotel. However, there are things that should be considered minimum in a room: (i) no door in the bathroom, an advantage is that there are bathrooms in every floor in front of the lifts and always clean but not very good if you need to do your "things" at 3 or 4 am and have to put some cloths, (ii) no place for the luggage and other things, it had to be on the floor, maybe the minor fault and (iii) no telephone to call staff, it suppose to be noise proof, but the couple in the front room were arguing really loudly at 4am and had to go all the way to the lobby to make the complain. We had a problem with the shower and report it, the lady there said someone would go, after 4 hours I report it again and now I found guy there and he came with me to the room with a "magic liquid" and problem solved. We stayed there in May 2014.

Room Tip: Ask for the windows if you like natural light, otherwise stay at the first floor.

Hi,

Thank you for leaving your honest review!
Our apologies for any inconvenience you’ve experienced during your stay. Our rooms are designed with a cubi and have an open bathroom. There are public lavatories on every floor. We are sorry to hear that this wasn’t an appropriate solution for you.
What a shame you woke up in the middle of the night because of the noise outside your room. We do have a couple of ‘no view’ rooms without windows, with extra insulation.
We can provide extra facilities in your room, like an extra closet. Please don’t hesitate to contact us about this on your next stay.
We hope to see you again and give you a great Qbic experience.

With kind regards

Qbic is right next to the South-station in Amsterdam. You can get there with a train from Schiphol airport in only 6 minutes. Also to the south-station goes tram number 5, and subway lines 50 and 51. The hotel is located in the WTC-building, but it has it's own entrance. When you come out of the south station to the WTC-plaza, just turn right before the plaza, and you can see the Qbic hotels entrance with it's orange signs. If you come with the tram, you come to the opposite side of the WTC-building, so just walk accross the WTC-plaza towards the train and subway station, and turn left before the station. If you go inside the WTC-building from the other entrace, there are signs inside, which say "hotel", these mean the Qbic-hotel, so just follow them.

Qbic is a quite different hotel, the rooms are a bit weird (green lights and stuff), but in a good way. I liked it anyway. Please notice before you make a reservation, that the bathrooms in the rooms DO NOT have a door. We knew this, and it was not a problem for us in any way, but for some people it might be a problem, in which case, this is not the hotel for you.

The staff were very nice and helpful in every way, and we liked that they didn't force small talk on us, since we are not small talkers, we are from Finland anyway :)

The room was really quiet, and the bed was the best hotel bed I have ever slept in! The room and bathroom were really clean. Loved the "rain-shower". Our room did not have a window, which we did not mind, but if you want a window, be sure to ask for it in advance. They had free, fast wi-fi and television had many english channels, including news channels but also Comedy Central etc.

If you are looking for a business-type hotel or you know, a really normal hotel, maybe you should choose something else. We knew where we were going from the hotels description, and the hotel outdid our expectations! We will definitely go back.

There is a breakfast, cost is 11 euros per person, we did not try it.

Hi there,

Great! Thank you very much for your detailed review, our future guests will be very happy to read this!
Sounds like you had a great time in our hotel and in Amsterdam too.
We have public lavatories on every floor which you can use instead of the open-door bathroom in your room.
Thank you once again and we would love to see you again soon.

Clean and spacious rooms. Free wifi. Only 7 minutes by train from Schipol. These are the pluses.

Be aware that if you stay at the weekend there is nowhere around open for breakfast or dinner. Book the breakfast package. 11 euros a head soon adds up. As does the costs of tea/coffe. There are no facilities in the room although Starbucks is very close. Cheap rooms but due to the location and facilities additional costs incur, the choice is yours.

My wife and I stayed for one night in Qbic Amsterdam, in May 2014. It is about 15-20 minutes from Schiphol Airport Arrivals if you take a train direct to Amserdam Zuid, so it's extremely quick and easy to get to.

The hotel is cheap by Amsterdam standards, and is clean and fresh-feeling. You probably won't find another hotel of this spec for the same money. It is fairly well served with tram and bus routes, so it's not hard to get away to a more interesting part of town. Being the financial district, it's a ghost town at the weekend.

It might be disconcerting to not have a window, so think about that option before booking. Also, there's no door on the toilet, which backs onto the bed, so this might be more 'intimate' than you wish if you're sharing the room. We had a reasonable night's sleep, though we found the room a bit too warm (which you can't control), and a lot of noise came from the corridor internal doors slamming. The room is stylish, but Spartan, featuring one suitcase stand and a couple of coat hangers.

Overall, if you're by yourself and just looking for a place to sleep it's probably hard to beat. If you're a couple, or looking for a hotel for few days, you may be better with something a little less claustrophobic.

Room Tip: It's probably worth paying extra to have a window, and ask for one which is not close to an inte...

Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to write this review. The hotel is easily accessible by train from the Schiphol airport and other types of public transport are available within walking distance. This makes it easy for you to escape the ghost city during the weekend and explore the city centre.
Some of our rooms don’t have windows, you can choose this option when booking on our site. The absence of a bathroom door might be unusual, though there are public restrooms on every floor opposite of the elevator.
The temperature can’t be adjusted from inside the room but our service managers are happy to do it for you. Please don’t hesitate to ask this during your next visit.
The rooms are kept basic so we can offer the best rates possible.

Once again, thank you for your review and we hope to see you again some time.

Kind regard,
