“Neon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2012 via mobile

Was very surprised with the quality of this budget hotel! Rooms were a very good size, extremely comfy bed! Our room had a blue theme of neon blue lights! The only thing I would of liked would be a door on the bathroom and maybe some non neon lighting!!! Apart from that the cube was an awesome idea!! If we were to head back to Amsterdam we would book again! Staff were very friendly! Station was very close with a direct line to central Amsterdam! Would definately recommend to anyone heading to amsterdam!!

Unless you have some kind of fetish for dirt & smell, don´t even think about staying here.
It was the worst Hotel we ever stayed in.

- extremely dirty & smelly hotel with uncleaned rooms.

- the "design" of the "cool looking" qbic-boxes was a bad joke:
they combine bed & toilet into one object, so that the toilet&shower
is right near your feed/head ... and believe it or not:
there is no door separating you from your poo´s smell.
Your partner will love it...
Yes: and you can´t open any window - wonderful, isn´t it?
Yes: really, the WC is open to the sleepingroom in 1 meter distance to the bed!
Yes: this applies to all rooms with those "qbics" as all of them have no door.

- messy & dirty corridors with garbage/waste and palletes lying around.
instead of cleaning they massively perfume the corridors every day.

- located in a weekend/evening-dead working-only area.

- absolutely overpriced compared to other amsterdam
hotels of better quality.

- design-features within the room (like led-lights, wallmounts & panels)
were of very poor/clumsy/ugly workmanship. many things were broken/didn´t function.

- room was cold and without radiator (some kind of passive building we guessed)

- too much more bad things to list here. most important said above.

+ they try to give you one of the rooms without windows first,
but will upgrade you to one with windows if you complain and insist.

+ multiple ways to escape nearby (tram, bus, train)

Was passing through Amsterdam during business travel and met up with a buddy of mine living in Germany. We booked at this hotel with the intent of staying closer to the heart of the city but we were late in making our arrangements. So take that into account when reading.

Literally a 5 min walk to the Zuid Station. Zuid has a 10 min train to the Schipol airport, and using the M51 you can easily be at Waterloo Plein or Centraal Station in 20 mins. I recommend getting a Metro 24, 48 or 72 hour pass depending on your stay, 72 hr was just 16 euro, and worked on the night bus. After 12:30 you needed to take a night bus back to Zuid, but again not bad. So overall was easy to access the diferent parts of the city including the airport.

Staff was friendly and very helpful in lobby. Very modern and trendy hotel, I've never stayed any where like it before.

Now for the room. The room is literally a room with a Cube in the middle of it which holds your Bed, TV, Toilet and shower. If travelling single this room is awesome, for couples... probably ok but there is no bathroom door, if travelling with a friend... can be awkward. Only 1 bed a double and really it's an open concept room. (We made the best of it, by putting the top part of the bed on the floor. The room was actually very big and spacious.

When in Amsterdam i doubt you spend your time in your Hotel so really this place fit the bill.

The Zuid station is a trendy commercial area but all of the business close for the weekend b/c the working people aren't there. The area is nice, clean and safe.

Cons:
no door on bathroom (if travelling with 2 people kinda odd.)
no handsoap
bed hard and lumpy, not the best bed.....
Our room never got cleaned the 2nd day we were there.

Pros
Good train and Metro links
Price a bit cheaper vs downtown hotels and easily off sets the cost of train tickets
Good fast link to the Schipol airport
Trendy
Free Wi Fi

Im sure we were in a different hotel to some of these terrible reviews. Arrived in Amsterdam about noon, was told we could not have the room before 3pm, but they took our bags, showed us where a couple of places we wanted to go later in the evening for a gig, and were friendly and helpful throughout. (UK hotel chains take note!) Room was clean, bright, loved the lighting concept too. Plenty of towels, toilet rolls, shampoo packets. (People are expecting robes/slippers? Really?). Breakfast was typical continental fayre, but unlike a lot of foreign countries, the milk was kept cool in crushed ice rather than being uht room temperature stuff, and there was plenty of it, together with fresh fruit and breads. Its approx 200yds from the train station, the tram is the other side of the WTC building itself, so travelling to and from is not an issue. We will certainly be using it again.

After reading some of the reviews on here we (a young couple) were slightly apprehensive about the hotel, however it was lovely and looks just like the pictures- just a lot bigger.
It doesn't have a wardrobe or drawers which could be a bit weird however it is very clean, has a big side to put things on and has a coat stand which they give you hangers for, for things which cannot stay in the suitcase.

It has a tv, the bed is huge, the shower is amazing and we didn't have any problems with hot water. We also had a massive window in the room which was nice. It was near the city centre, only 5/6 stops away on the metro which was quick and cheap if you buy a 24 hr / 48 hr pass. The metro station was under 2 min walk away,

The staff were really friendly also and made an effort to help you find your way in the city. Take a hairdryer as this isn't provided.

Basically we would go back again and would definately recommend to friends,
