“Great weekend get away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2011

This was our first time in Amsterdam, for my husband's birthday and we were delighted to be upgraded to the Grand Suite, an absolutely gorgeous room. Being situated in the museum quarter it was an ideal location, easy to get to all the local attractions. We walked to all of these, even though it rained the whole trip but trams are another easy option. The room was spacious and very comfortable, the free mini bar was a really nice touch. Breakfast too was great, very informal, maybe an idea if this could be offered in your room, as some people may find it a bit 'cosy' if the suites are fully booked, although we had it to ourselves!
We went to the Van Gogh museum on the Friday night and this had a great atmosphere, with a DJ playing in the foyer and drinks being served. Saturday night was a walk to Dam Square and a wander round the red light district, which has to be seen!
Alex was a great host, very attentive but not intrusive. Although the weather wasn't kind to us we had a great stay and will definitely recommend Fusion Suites to our friends and family.

We really enjoyed staying at Fusion Suites. Alex the owner was very welcoming and helpful and straight away recommended us places to go and to eat, drink, etc.

The room was really comfortable and clean and had free internet, which was helpful for checking out places around the city.

The Hotel itself is in a great location situated in a quiet area, but only 5 minutes walk to the Leidseplein.

We would definitely stay here again when coming back to Amsterdam. Well worth the money.

This is an up-market B & B with four rooms/suites, each different. The suite which we were given - to our surprise and disappointment was not the one we had booked - it had its plus points. The bedroom /sitting room was large and well insulated from any traffic noise. It had a coffee maker, and the contents of the mini-bar, which included a bottle of wine (and if you stay long enough a bottle of champagne) were free. There was adequate storage and comfortable seating. The view was unremarkable (as we had expected).

We were given a discount for our suite having been changed, but truth to tell we'd never have booked at all had we known our booking was not to be fully honoured. (With thick snow on the ground & limited taxi availability, we decided not to start looking for somewhere else to stay). The bathroom in the suite we were given was tiny with very little room for personal items, the bath itself cramped and the sound insulation between bathroom and living space inadequate. The decor of the suite was "Goth meets dominatrix" - great if you like lots of black and purple, but...

The suite was cold - like the weather, but astonishingly the heating had been turned down and our first night was uncomfortable. This was not an oversight, because when we discovered and adjusted the heating controls the following day, we returned from sightseeing to find the heating turned down again! This was inexcusable - a cold room is not part of the deal, certainly not at 275 euros per night.

Breakfast is served in the kitchen at a communal table - not necessarily a problem except that the table wasn't large enough. Consequently breakfast was cramped, as well as not a place for private conversation. The quality of the food and coffee was good, but the choice was limited - as is usual with a B & B.

In short the price of the rooms/suites raised expectations which were not fulfilled. This was compounded in our case by our choice of suite not being honoured.

Dear guests,

We would like to thank you for staying at Fusion Suites and for taking the time to write this review.
Reviews are important to us as they give us the opportunity to learn and enhance the service we deliver to our guests.
We are very sorry that you have not fully enjoyed your stay in Amsterdam. As we only have 4 suites we will always honour requests for a specific suite. We would have done this in your case as well however as we explained to you we were unfortunately not able to do this as we had a leackage in the suite you booked due to the severe weather of that week.
This made it impossble for us to get you the exact suite you reserved.
All our suites are individually decorated and people will have their personal favorites.
As we understand that it can be a dissappointment to get a different Suite then the one you have reserved we have really tried everything possible to make you feel comfortable during your stay. As we felt we were not able to take away your disappointment fully we have offerered you to stay for free. Finally you did not accept that offer and we have left it to you to pay what you felt suitable.
We have also offered you a free night on your next stay in the suite of your choice and that offer still stands.
We hope to be able to welcome you again in Amsterdam and in Fusion Suites and to offer you our hospitality again in the suite of your choice.

Sharmila and Alex Beverwijk

Firstly, let me say that this is place is charming. In essence a glorified b&b (owners live on premises, only 4 rooms, no staff). In a leafy high end neighborhood, great for museums and next to fashion shopping, just outside of the traditional Amsterdam (so you will be getting trams and taxis for town center / Anne Frank's house and many restaurants. For joggers, it is right next to the park. The room is spacious (stayed in one of the two suites). My only niggle was the bathroom was definitely dated. Breakfast is wonderful, but like all b&b's you must pick your time.

However, this is a lot of money for what you get (for instance, the Chester Residence in Edinburgh is a similar concept, but rooms are twice the size, twice the services with a full service staff) - if this Euro 150, I would have no problem recommending. At over Euro 200, Alex is going to have a problem unless he keeps the rooms in tip top shape and starts thinking of more hospitality.

My family (girls ages 9 and 12) stayed at Fusion Suites before Christmas, and had the most lovely stay. Alex and Sharmila own a small (four room) hotel, and provide the most wonderful service, and a great place to stay. Our room was huge with a large bed, sitting area, and even enough room for our kids to have separate twin beds the hosts brought into the room. The hotel is located on a quiet street near Vondelpark, extraordinarily close to the museums, and away from the crowds. We LOVED our visit!

I can not speak highly enough of our stay at the Fusion Suites, it definately deserves all the fantastic reviews. My husband & I stayed with our 1 year old in the Grand Suite for 2 nights. The room was beautiful & had the added bonus of luxury tolietries & a free mini bar. Our host Alex was extremely helpful & very kind to our daughter. Breakfast was freshly prepared each monring in the georgous breakfast room & was excellent. It was such a great way to start to day. We could not more highly reccommend the Fusion Suites & wished we could have stayed longer.

Stayed at the Fusion Suites with my elderly mother and husband and had a great time. The hotel is located in an upscale quaint and lovely neighborhood that is quiet and elegant and yet less than five minutes and you are in the midst of all the action. You are close to the major sites, the restaurants, shopping areas and the place where most of the tours (bus and boat) start from. Alex and Sharmila, the lovely couple running the Fusion Suites, were there to welcome us and had chosen the best suite for us; the room was extremely spacious, spotles clean, and had all possible amenities that you can think of, plus those you would not even have expected including: a mini bar that is replenished daily FOR FREE, a coffee/tea machine, bath salts, a free internet, bottled water, a fan, simply everything. Seeing that my mother is elderly and after having heard of a fall that she had taken earlier on our trip, they immediately showed us another room that had a bathroom that they thought might have suited her needs better. We thanked them but were so taken by the original choice, that we decided to keep it. A few minutes later, and after insisting on helping us with our luggage, Alex showed up with two bottles of wine to welcome us officially to the hotel. They serve a lovely breakfast (freshly prepared before your eyes by Alex and Sharmila) you start the day after a nice chat with them and after they provide you with tips on where to go and what to do. When we asked them for recommendations on where to go to eat, not only did they provide suggestions, but provided us with detailed maps as well as calls in advance to the place to ensure a reservation. They were extremely thoughtful and kind to my mother, giving her an extra key after having noticed that my husband and I went out quite often and she could not join us. Rather than forcing her to be cooped up in her room, which by the way had a lovely view of the charming street and neighberhood, they gave her an extra key to give her the freedom she needed. Moreover, on the last day, and as an unexpected very nice gesture, Sharmila gave us sets of traditional clogs "in return for our room key." What a nice touch to crown a lovely stay. We loved Amsterdam, and a great deal of our enjoyment is thanks to the Fusion Suites and Alex and Sharmila. If ever going, don't think twice - stay there.
