“Dangerous”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

This place is a danger to stay in. Exposed wires, shoddy work on the furniture. The bathroom was dirty and after a shower i felt dirtier than before i went in, also the toilet gets drenched when you shower. The only air come from a window next to a toilet, so enjoy that smell, and the skylight is completely open, nice view for the neighbours. Also have to agree with others posts about unwelcome little visitors, and also many many bugs. While the host was kind enough, the place was dirty and a danger to stay in. I have stayed in better back packers places than this.
Note: we were in the Annette room.

Room Tip: Do not stay in room Annette, it is not fit to house people, let alone the rats which live in there.

Room Annette has been rebuilt now.
There were and are no bugs in my house. Every year we make sure the mattresses get a control and also at the end of 2012 nothing have been found.

I stayed at Annette's at Overtoom for 3 nights in October in Room Rose. It was pleasant stay; the room was spacious (for a single person) and clean, the kitchen amenities there were useful for budget travelers especially with convenience stores close by. There were even two cats to keep you company.

That said, the bed took a little getting used to as it appeared to be two single mattresses put together and the separation down the middle takes getting used to. The bathroom was little small and the water pressure of the shower was a weak.

Those two minor foibles aside, I had a nice stay and would have no hesitation going back there or even recommending it to those interested.

I had a chance to stay at Annette's B&B from Sep 1st to Sep 4th. This has been the most economical place I have come across in Amsterdam after doing a thorough research for almost a week. 30 Euros for a night..........what else can someone ask for?

Very quite and laid back neighbourhood. Lots of places to eat. If you have deep pockets and want to go another step higher the price hike would be 100 euros for one night with not much of a difference in quality of accomodation.

One or two of the rooms (out of the 4 available) are not fully constructed, however, Annette explained almost everything to me before I rented one and I had no surprises. She had been very fair to me in her dealings and she would give you plenty of advices which can help you save lots of money in shopping too. If someone is on budget, I would certainly recommend this place.

I mostly ended up walking to downtown and never took trams/train/buses....walking through the Vondel Park and then flower market and then reaching the half donut downtown was always fun.
Overall it was a good experience..........the money I saved from staying here helped me buy presents for my relatives. My advice........Check this place out!

The host of this B&B was bubbly, friendly and helpful, The location is okay - out of town, but easy to access tourist spots by tram or a half hour+ walk. Unfortunately, the plus points stop there. We had a room that was still being done up. There was exposed wiring by the sink (covered with a plastic bag) and sockets in the bathroom that hadn't been sealed properly. The room was pretty grubby and we could smell cigarettes pretty regularly (either from the host or other guests). This is a budget option, so all of this would have been okay if it hadn't been for the rats! We were kept awake by squeaking and scrabbling sounds just outside the window. The incompleteness of the room (open pipes etc) made us worry that the little darlings might burrow their way in, so we decamped to a different hotel after a couple of nights. If the rat problem gets sorted and you take a different room - e.g. one of the upstairs one, this is worth a look; otherwise, go for something a bit cleaner/safer!

Room Tip: Don't take the cheapest room (the small room at the back)! It's also worth noting that Anne...

We stayed in Annette's daughter Nyaki's B&B on Overtoom in the Maxim room. As soon as we met Nyaki she made us feel welcome in her home, introducing us to her baby son, dog and 2 cats. Our room was lovely and spacious with a dining table to complement the cooking facilities available in the communal kitchen, a TV, balcony overlooking the street perfect for people watching and a very comfortable bed! Nyaki provided tea, coffee, milk and sugar.

There was a fridge in our room as well as space in the large fridge-freezer in the kitchen. You share a toilet and shower room (like a wet room, really nice shower) with the other guests; both were very clean and well-stocked with toilet roll etc by Nyaki.

The B&B is located on Overtoom, a VERY long street but just 5 mins by tram - line 1 takes you all the way to the train station - (EUR1.70 single) into town, or a very pleasant 20 minute walk through either the lovely Vondelpark across the road or all the way down Overtoom, with its many coffee shops and eateries (we found some amazing coffee at a shop called 'toasty' on the opposite side of the road about half way up).

Nyaki allows guests to smoke in her home; we are not smokers ourselves and this did not affect us in the slightest.

I would recommend this B&B to anyone on a budget who doesn't mind staying slightly outside of the city centre.

We stayed two nights at Annette's last night and really enjoyed the place. Annette is the perfect host and we were amazed by her kindness. The room was very practical and comfortable, with private bathroom and coffeemaker. The perfect & cheapest solution for those who like to feel at home. The location is also quite ideal, with the main tram line just around the corner, the Vondelpark and main museums few blocks away.

We stayed in room Laurean which was perfect for us as a couple: nice, comfy double bed, own bathroom with shower, a kitchenette and coffeemaker and a fridge. You even have access to the patio! For us it was the best choice for our 5-days stay in Amsterdam: supermarket, tram stop and the gorgeous Vondelpark are just around the corner. You can reach the city center walking within 15 to 20 minutes! The area is very nice and calm, lots of restaurants and cafés. And of course Annette herself was a great hostess, very friendly and helpful, always up for a little chat and always in a good mood. We loved our stay, the room was super clean and nicely decorated, there is free wireless internet and Annette provided us with coffee and tea, as well as fresh fruit for breakfast which was awesome!

Thank you Annette, we will definitely recommend your B&B - and who knows, maybe we'll be back one day!
