“Home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2011

What a breath if fresh air! After traveling around Europe and staying in cramped hotel rooms for a while now, I was so pleased to find this little gem. We stayed in the loft which is a beautiful, spacious room on the top floor with private bathroom. Very clean and cosy with all the comforts of your own home. Peter was very helpful (we didn't meet Blaine) and breakfast was lovely. Their little dog roxy might even join you if you are lucky! A little distance from center but lovely stroll through the park and a quiet peaceful neighbourhood with some nice restaurants near by and other little shops. Easy access to town from tram 2 so those who don't want to walk can easily catch it. Book this b & b is it's available, you won't be disappointed.

This B&B is spotless, comfortable and attractive. Situated in a fairly modern four story house south of the Vondel Park, the property still has plenty of Amsterdam character, with wooden floors and individually styled rooms. We walked to/from town three times, and it took about 40 minutes. Otherwise, there is a tram which takes about 10 minutes to reach the centre, about a 10 minute walk from the B&B. The neighbourood is peaceful and residential, on a canal, with a trampark opposite. There is a small gallery up the street, plus two local bars within minutes, both of which were friendly and funky, with good selections of beer, other drinks and food.

We stayed in the Asian room, where a large window overlooking the canal let lots of sunshine and light onto the red walls, touches of Asian furniture and decor, and large bed with immaculate linen. It was a real pleasure to sleep and wake up here. Breakfast was served aournd a shared table, in the homely and elegant kitchen dining room - cereals, fresh fruit and delicious yoghurt, pastries and breads, cheese and meats, jam, juice and plenty of fresh tea or coffee. We had a shared loo and separate shared shower room (with walk in wet room style shower), both of which were clean and pleasant. There was a great roof terrace too, for views, suncatchers and smokers...

Blaine and Peter could not have been more helpful or friendly. Communication prior to the stay was great. We stayed four nights and so benefitted from a three course meal for two at the restaurant Blaine and Peter run. Blaine stayed at home to welcome us on the evening of our arrival, but when we decided to go straight to the restaurant and come later, this was no problem... in fact Peter gave us a lift from the restaurant back to the B&B, and then had to return to the restaurant to pick up his bike. This was well beyond the call of duty and much appreciated. I'm really pleased we chose to stay here and would thoroughly recommend both the B&B and the restaurant, where the food was lovely and the service was excellent.

First of all, don't be deterred by the location -- it's fantastic, close enough to the center for a lovely walk (through the Vondelpark!), quick by tram, and in a totally charming neighborhood that has an authentic feel that can't be had downtown. The B&B is spotless and beautifully decorated, overlooking a quiet canal. Breakfast was fantastic (fresh baked croissants and meats, eggs, yogurt, fresh fruit), no surprise because their restaurant was also by far the best meal we had in Amsterdam. Blaine and Peter were very generous with travel tips and open to discussing Dutch life as they live it (Blaine is originally from the US, and had great insights into the differences between the cultures). They're unbelievably generous hosts, even taking a couple hours out of their busy lives to track us down and take a taxi out to the airport to hand deliver a bag that we accidentally left behind. They wouldn't accept any compensation -- they treated us with the utmost kindness and generosity.

What a wonderful experience! Blaine and Pieter were so helpful. This was our first time in Amsterdam and it was an outstanding experience. Loved the B&B with the rooftop terrace and the food was wonderful. Would stay there again in a minute.

Room Tip: Loved staying in the loft, spent a night in another room and it was also very nice

While outside the central part of Amsterdam, from Blaine's it was a 10 minute walk and a 10 minute tram ride to the museum area; 20 minutes to the train station.
Also, 30-40 minutes from the airport.
Very nice breakfast; quiet location near a canal.

Blaine & Peter are wonderful hosts, they were waiting for us with a map of Amsterdam, pointed out all the attractions. Great breakfast, even for the kids. They were extremely patient and helpful. The loft is amazing especially it's terrace!

If you are looking for a home away from home this is the place. Secluded, private and spacious, away from the city noise. An elegant home with wooden floors and a great roof terrace for all to use. Peter and Blaine are the best and really do look after you. 10mins from city centre by tram. We'll be back. Ngahuia & Richard
