“Great location but overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

This is a quaint hotel located in a typical Amsterdam building - steep and narrow staircases and a claustrophobic elevator. The room had a good size and was clean. The bathroom was modern but would benefit from some TLC (fittings loose etc). There were no coffee making facilities but staff pointed out where to buy instant coffee and lent plastic cups and a kettle to us (which was slightly temperamental though). Overall it is a nice little hotel with friendly staff but overpriced for what you get.

When we pointed out that the button to turn on the shower was missing, we got a shrug of the shoulders and were told to use our fingernails to grab it. A report of a fire hazard hair dryer got a similar indifferent response.
This is not a hotel you go back to at night to relax before bed.

The room was small and llighting was not good. The bathroom was modern but small. The shower did not drain well. Location was good. Transportation was excellent. The tram stopped right in front of the hotel and came frequently.

Thank you EasyToBook'com. i very much enjoyed my stay at the this beautifully positioned, quaint little Hotel. There was a great sense of warmth among all the staff, from cleaners to reception. A very informative receptionist by the name of Jacopo from Italy was keen enough to take his time to explain to me where all the relavant points of interest were to me and so I thank the hotel Alfa Plantage for having such excellent staff to perform all these neccessary tasks. Well Done! I certainly would consider returning to this Hotel and i also look forward to when the breakfasts begin. Thank You, I wish you all a Wonderful day! Yours sincerely, Iain Mitchell.

I didnt even get as far as staying here- I made a reservation online, then rang a few days later to enquire about a few things (we will be in Amsterdam for the Marathon and wanted to check out distances from the start etc) I rang the hotel- the phone was answered in Dutch so I politely enquired if english was spoken, to which the reply was (verbatem!) "Well, let me see I work in a hotel in the middle of Amsterdam, of course I do. Stop asking silly questions and tell me what your question is" WOW. I hung up quickly.. then cancelled my reservation. If that is the attitude they have to potential guests- how on earth are they going to treat you when you arrive?!

Check in was smooth and nice size room given, however it was noisy till well after midnight with the trams going by. Air conditioning and bathroom also reasonable size. Very basic and very simple furnishings. Very small TV, no fridge or safety box. The free internet was a bit slow and sometimes intermittent. Front desk Staff service was quite good. Unfortunately numerous towels were torn or had holes and also the bed linen was torn. Upon arrival the rubbish bin in the room already had rubbish inside. Toilet tissue not replaced when we ran out. We came back late on the last night to find no bath towels in the room and an unopened 1.5 litre bottle of water had been thrown away, unbelievable! Housekeeping staff and management really disgrace themselves with this level of service. The hotel is about 15 minutes from Central Station by #9 tram.

The location was in a convenient and beautiful part of Amsterdam but we were not made aware of the trams running past the hotel until 01.00 which made it really noisy. The reception staff were helpful and spoke excellent English. We had paid a supplement for a superior double room but I wouldn't bother in the future as the room was small and quirky.

Room Tip: Don't bother paying for a superior room.
