“5 days in Amsterdam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

My wife and I spent Monday - Friday in this hotel = very convenient - 197 bus €4 from outside airport took us to Leidseplein; a few minutes walk from Leidse Sq Hotel (behind Marriot Hotel). Hotel clean, comfortable and in a quiet residential area; staff friendly and very helpful. Dining room a little on the small side. Lots of good restaurants (eg Rancho) close by and hop-on-hop-off canal bus just at the bridge over canal. Close to Vondelpark, a lovely place to spend a few hours. Would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We had room 158 which looked on to the garden at the rear of the hotel, so presume no 58 on any floo...

I had a small single room which was not very inviting. The location was in the ground floor and there was no door between the bath section and the sleeping section. (And there was no space for it in the room). Check-in was very efficient, checkout was the same. I did not have breakfast as there is ample choice in the surrounding.

This hotel is in a first class location, just a short walk from the many places to eat and shop around the Leidesplein square. It is situated in a very quiet street, but close to major museums & Vondelpark. Rooms are small, but very clean & with comfortable beds & all facilities needed for a pleasant visit. There is no restaurant, but a very good breakfast room, with a very good selection in mornings.
The hotel has free Wi Fi & this was fully used to connect Ipad, which has a very good APP from Triposo featuring Amsterdam.
Although it is easy to walk from hotel, at good alternative to getting around city is to get a tavel card from which gives unlimited travel. This was very welcome as my wife has problems walking & you can hop on & off the trams, even for a single stop. These are available for 1 to 7 days & are much cheaper than paying each time you travel. GVB.nl has a web site with full information & prices.

I booked this hotel for a one-night stay between flights from AMS. Since we only had a few hours for roaming in the city, we just wanted clean, convenient, safe and inexpensive -- and the BW Leidse Square turned out to be just about perfect for those criteria. It is behind the Marriott which faces a major restaurant and transportation area, so the BW is convenient without having those services "in your face". We really liked the neighborhood -- quiet and quaint -- easy walk to food, retail, and Vondel Park. Actually, all of old Amsterdam is walkable from here -- and perhaps a tram return.

I considered either staying near the airport or near Central Station. But actually, a short stay is more convenient in the Leise Square area. The folks at BW Leidse Sq kindly recommended taking the #197 bus from AMS to Leideplein for 4euros. It was great advice. Much easier and more frequent than train/tram.

Room Tip: High floors have better views, but extra stairs and curvy hallways.

We have been pretty happy with the hotel mainly for the location slightly off the Leidsenplein so it is fairly quiet. It is behind the large Marriott. We got here cheaply by taking bus 197 from the airport and only had to take our bags a short distance. Tram and bus stops are two blocks away. The Leidse Square area has many places to eat and drink as well as shops and night life so it is a good location but not as overwhelming as Dam Square. It is close to the museum area and the big park as well. It actually is easy to walk anywhere in tourist Amsterdam from here or take a tram. We got here before 9 am so could not check in our room, but they let us use the secure bag area. The check in was slow mainly because we had to wait about 10 minutes for the one clerk to deal with getting tour tickets for a demanding fellow guest. Oh well one clerk and one woman who did not believe in reading tour books. We were exhausted from the flight so came back about noon to rest and were given a recently cleaned room. The room was clean with space on either side of the queen bed to move a bit. Also had a big flat tv with English channels, including CNN and BBC which was good. A small desk with outlets was helpful. The closet had a much welcome safe and tea maker with cups which was good. Only issue was no drawers so used shelf space in closet for clothes as we stayed four nights. The room was away from elevator and other rooms at end of hall so nice and quiet. Second floor with windows that opened. Your room will be different. The bath had a tub and shower and lotions and shampoo. Overall a nice place to stay and right for the price.

The hotel is just a short walk from the main center of activity in AMS - Leides Square and close to the museum area, Vondel Park etc. Boat Tours are just a block away. Located on a quiet side street, you are not inundated with the noise from just a block away. Small rooms but clean and modern - we were allowed into our room upon arrival at 9:00 a.m. A great way to start our vacation after an 8 hour plane trip from the U.S. Helpful staff provided answers to basic logistics questions. Cheapest way to get there from airport is the 197 bus - drops you off about three blocks from hotel. Fine if you have limited luggage. Beds were comfortable, heat adequate once I remembered to turn it on. Room bright both daytime and night. (All the other hotels I stayed at had limited lighting and small windows). I did not like that the luggage room was accessible to all those using it rather than just hotel staff. Key was flying between people on the day we left - not sure who was taking it.

My husband and i stayed here for our trip to Amsterdam. My favorite part of this hotel is the location. We took bus 197 from schipol which drops off just a couple blocks away. After that we were able to walk everywhere! Lots of shopping and restaurants nearby. Room was a good size. Bed was comfortable and very clean. Breakfast is 10 eur per person. It is a very nice spread but my husband and i found that since we are such light breakfast eaters, it didnt pay to spend that much on breakfast. We just found a cafe for coffee and bought muffins at the grocery store for much cheaper. Overall, great hotel!!
