“Wonderful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 weeks ago via mobile

We stayed at this hotel for four nights in mid August.
Due to the nature of this listed building, as such there is no real lobby area, and check in is carried out in an office near the main door.
That was efficient, but we were a little surprised that no one offered info on how to find the room, or advised were the lifts were or indeed offered to help with with the luggage. I mention this as it's a bit of a maze inside, and it is very difficult to get your bearings.
The room was fantastic, with high ceilings, and a nice view. The bed was very comfortable, and as others have mentioned, the stocked minibar is great as is the coffee maker. The bathroom was very good too and there were excellent towels and toiletries.
The weather in Amsterdam was very poor, and we were so glad of the wonderful pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room all of which are extremely well maintained.
We didn't breakfast at the hotel, but we did have cocktails in the bar, which were lovely.
The location is great....close to the station, and within walking distance of many restaurants and many of the sights.
All in all, a wonderful hotel, with very courteous staff and great value for money. The Amrath will certainly be my preferred hotel for future visits.

This hotel is stunning....old traditional style full of marble and stained glass. The whole hotel is spotless. We originally had a first floor canal view room which had a huge window overlooking the canal....unfortunately when my partner was away for a swim I was standing in night wear and a couple opened the door and came barging into our room with key cards in one hand and suitcases in the other....arghhhhhhhhhhhhh......the hotel staff had double booked out our room ...the couple made their apologies and left to be re roomed....but I was left quite shaken with a worry of privacy, security and safety after that. My boyfriend went and complained and we got given a free breakfast the next morning and told we could have an upgrade from the next day. Our upgrade was to a suite on the 4th floor....but if we are honest we actually preferred our original room on the first floor as it had a lower, larger window with electric curtains which were a delight to open and shut from you bed at night/ in morning. We went for our complimentary breakfast on day 2 of our stay and we are so glad we hadn't paid the 25 euro each for the buffet style breakfast as the cooked breakfast wasn't up to much (chicken sausages!!? were vile and the scrambled eggs yukky) The cereal was nice as was the fresh bread but we wouldn't say it would be worth what they charge. ....

Over all this hotel was more than worth its price tag for the design/location and rooms it has....it has lovely staff and the duty manager Simona that dealt with us after the "strangers getting keys to our room incident" was lovely and she took responsibility and tried to help best she could. The concierge guys are also very nice....always smiling and happy. The chamber maids all were polite also...with smiles when you passed them. The actual rooms were great as huge big beds (a must for us in a hotel) and nice views of the canal (make sure you request a canal view) ...the toilet door was glass though and had no lock on it (thank god I was not in there when our intruders barged in).

The location of the hotel was just a 5 minute walk from central train station and we easily walked back and forth with our cases without the need for a taxi. It is close to red light district/dam square etc too (within a 10 minute walking distance so close enough to walk but away from all the seediness and shadiness off the red light district)

All in all....definitely go to this hotel if coming to Amsterdam !!! Ask for a canal view first floor room....don't pay extra for a suite as not worth the money ....and skip the breakfast !!!!!!! Oh and they give you a FREE full mini bar each day in your room !!!!!...and free Wi-Fi :-)

If we return to Amsterdam we will definitely be coming back to the Amrath....

Room Tip: Ask for a canal view when booking your room! We got upraded from 1st floor canal view room to 4th fl...

The hotel is very nice on the outside very historic looking. On the inside it is nice as well but we didn't consider the interior worth the high star rating. The problem I found with the hotel is that our two requests were not even noticed. The air did not work in our room. We were on the ground floor facing the major road. We didn't feel comfortable leaving the window open during the day and at night we couldn't leave the window open for the noise. So when we went to the room that night we asked for it be fixed. They promised it would be and they gave us a 10in fan in the mean time. We got up and I went to the front desk to ask for two sheets to be left instead of the down filled sheet we had. We came back late that day, not only did we not have the two sheets, but our unit still did not work. We called the front desk and they had no record of our requests. We complained the next day while we were checking out, they said they were sorry and is there anything they could do to make our stay better. I told them no because we were checking out. I don't think they cared or just didn't get it. For a high star rating it was a very big let down.

The rooms are delightful and cleaned efficiently, the building is a joy to behold and a delight to return to after a busy day out in Amsterdam

The check-in was efficient and the room ok (big compared to other European hotels). Situated on a busy road but the rooms are soundproof. We enjoyed the indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi. Breakfast was good - I requested gluten-free bread and received a freshly baked mini-loaf warm from the oven - excellent! Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Location very good - close to the station and restaurants. We enjoyed our stay.

The hotel and amenities are spotless. The Wellness Center's saunas and pools were very clean and accessory items i.e. towels and robes were plentiful and very clean.
The staff are very helpful; several times I would ask directions or instruction and that member would stop what they were doing and walk me to the location.
We had breakfast in their restaurant and for Euro 16.50 it was a bargain. Fresh meat, fruit condiments and bread......excellent coffee, and as a Seattleite I am very discriminating, All in all a very nice spread.
The room had a complimentary mini bar that we tried to minimize usage of, so as not to be greedy. The bathroom was chrome, mirror and ceramic....also spotless.
We travel 4 to 5 times a year and heartily recommend this establishment.
There was one minor incident, outside the control of the hotel staff because this location was administered by a sub contractor, that the staff acknowledged and promised to pursue and rectify. Any place can have a problem....it is how it is handled that makes the difference.

So, in all a very good stay.
15 minute walk to Grand Central station and about 20-25 minute train to airport for Euro 5. Right on the edge of all shops.
