“Best Hotel I've Ever Stayed In.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2014

Myself and my partner booked this trip to get over a few difficult months and to celebrate becoming homeowners, so it was important that we picked a hotel which we could unwind in - and I'm so, so pleased we picked the Amrath. We could practically see the front door from the Centraal train station, which was a relief after a 5am flight (and also made working out which trams to catch very easy)! A concierge was ready to carry our bags and directed us to the spacious reception area, where even though it was early, they got our room ready so we could freshen up and get our bearings. Our room wasn't the most palatial the hotel could offer, but still took our breath away! Small details such as bathrobes and slippers, remote controlled curtains and BBC on the TV made a big difference, and I know everyone else mentions it but do not underestimate how important the free WiFi and minibar are. Every evening I could have a steaming hot deep bath with a cold drink and plan for the next day. I have trouble sleeping but not in the Amrath - the bed was huge, soft and turned down every evening. We were warm in the night, but when I mentioned this to the concierge he arranged straightaway for the windows to be opened from now on. We loved exploring the hotel - my snaps don't do the stunning art deco touches justice unfortunately! All in all we paid £500 for three nights (including flights) for both of us, and I can't believe how wonderful our stay was. Our trip to Amsterdam, and the Amrath., was just what the doctor ordered - we will come back to Amsterdam and don't even need to think twice about where to stay.

The Amrath is a luxury hotel located close to the centre of Amsterdam without the hustle and bustle. This is an old building restored into a beautiful hotel, the stained glass windows, the carved stone and wood throughout add a rare ambience in a hotel. The concierge and front office staff are welcoming and friendly offering every assistance to find your way around Amsterdam. The dining room is very comfortable offering a great breakfast or dinner and is a short walk away from the bar which offers a friendly atmosphere for either before or after dinner drinks. While there are some smaller rooms the majority are large with very high ceilings and electric curtains. The beds are extremely comfortable and the bathrooms are exceptional offering showers and baths. There is free WiFi throughout and the mini bars are free, there is also a great swimming pool and spa in the lower ground floor. We have stayed at the Amrath on three separate occasions from three to five days and are looking forward to our next stay in 2015.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the canal, to wake up, open the curtains from the bed and look out over t...

I booked the Amrath Hotel for my partner's Birthday weekend and can not recommend this hotel enough! We arrived late on Friday evening and were led up the red carpet steps by the porter and greeted with smiling faces at the reception. Check in was quick and simple and the porter took our luggage and escorted us to our superior deluxe room. The room was fantastic! Spacious, great decor and the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. The room also had remote control black out curtains which were great for afternoon naps (almost a little too good as we never wanted to get up)! The coffee machine went to good use each morning and the free mini bar was a greatly appreciated addition - although we did have to call reception and request for this to be topped up every day! The bathroom suite was modern and clean with a huge bath big enough for 2 people and a powerful shower. The location was excellent and the spa is a must visit! Nadifa in the 'Wellness' spa is an excellent masseuse! We also ordered room service on a couple of occasions and this was absolutely delicious (albeit pricey!) and was delivered promptly to our room each time. Overall a stunning hotel and amazing service!

This is a converted shipping office building, constructed in the 1910s. The hotel opened in around 2007 -- everything was brought back to the splendor of the original. There is fantastic wood carving throughout the building, wonderful stained glass work in many of the public areas. Most of it has a sea-going theme (starfish, octopodes, seahorses) -- from the second floor, one can see straight up constellations in glass, with zodiacs toward the building's front and the globe to the two sides (new world to one side, old world to the other). One is living in a treasure-trove for the period of one's visit.

The room we had was very nice -- a canal view (one side of the hotel faces the main road -- likely noisy); as we were staying at the Amrath in June, the view out the window remained lovely for most of the evening. The curtains were heavy enough to make the room suitably dark for sleeping.

Staff members were very friendly, capable and willing to help.

I would think of re-visiting Amsterdam for the pleasure of a return visit to this hotel. The city has its pleasures, certainly, but the hotel was to my mind (and this is rare) one of the most interesting and lovely sites of all.

Room Tip: Call the hotel in advance to seek a canal-side room, at least on the first floor (above the entry le...

This hotel is amazing. I can't state it better. I will most definitely be returning whenever I go back to Amsterdam. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The room was luxurious, and apart from a bit of noise at reasonable hours from excited World Cup football fans, quiet and comfortable. Free WiFi and hotel minibar helped go the extra mile. It's also very close to a major train station that can be used to get to the airport. It's located a bit outside of the central part of the city, but my wife and I had no problem walking anywhere (we actually enjoyed getting to see the city while we were walking to places like the Rijksmuseum), however if you do have trouble walking or dislike doing so, keep that in mind. If you are wanting to stay in Amsterdam, I highly recommend you consider staying here.

Stayed for 2 nights, absolutely beautiful hotel. The environment was wonderful, the staff were very helpful and friendly, the rooms were spacious and luxurious. The bathroom was pristine.
I am fussy about hotels but this met all my expectations. A true five star hotel. I will definitely stay there again when next I am in Amsterdam,
