My boyfriend and I stayed in this hotel for a weekend trip for three nights in February.
Check in: Checking in was smooth in the seperate room as you enter the hotel. The person checking us in was friendly and stated it was taking him a while to find us the best room. By best room, I had hoped for a full canal view but no such luck.
My boyfriends credit card was taken to secure any additions on the room however we later found out they actually took out money from the card and not the pre autorisation that was expected.
Room: We wasn't given any directions to our room, and it did take a little time to locate it as there are many halls however once we found it, we were very pleased.
The high ceilings, large King size bed (which was the most comfortable bed I've slept in), coffee machine, free mini bar and seperate deep bath and powerful shower were all great.
The bathroom was a very good size and the toiletries were replenished daily. The shower was very good as was the bath. The door is glass however it is frosted so once it's closed, you can not see inside it.
The free mini bar was a very good touch and we made good use of it. The mini bar is re-stocked seperately from the maid. It included two beers, soft drinks, vodka, gin, whiskey, a Dutch sprite and a small bottle of red and white wine. Also a bag of popcorn.
There was a TV in the room and we borrowed a DVD player from reception as we were feeling a little lazy one evening.
Spa: The spa area was very good with a good size pool, jacuzzi, three saunas of varying temperatures and a steam room. There was a very small gym as well. My only complaints with the spa area is the lack of places to sit. There were a couple of beds and chairs but not enough for the many users. Also there should have been a water fountain in the area. A jug of water was by the reception area but this was not re-filled.
Breakfast: We had breakfast included in our room rates. Unfortunately we had an issue where our room number was not on the breakfast sheet but this was quickly checked once we queried it.
We also had another issue when we came down to breakfast on Monday to be told brekfast finished at 10am on the week days and not 11am as on the weekends. Luckily after speaking with reception, they agreed we could eat breakfast in the bar lounge although this was a set menu.
The breakfast buffet consisted of the usual pastiers, cheeses, meats, cooked breakfast and plenty of different juices. It was plentiful however I felt the 25EUR per person price was rather steep. However, I guess this is normal for a five star hotel.
Room service: We did not order room service although I did look to order soemthing but the price of a pizza being 15EUR then followed by a cover charge of 7.50EUR was a little too steep.
Location: The hotel location is fantastic for everything. Central station was a short 5 minute walk away. As was the Red Light district and many other places to visit.
We took a canal tour and it was great to see the hotel from the canal. It was also the only hotel mentioned on the canal trip.
Overall, I was happily visit this hotel again. The reason for this review not being five stars is simply the small little miscommunication issues. Another communication issue we had was regarding checking out at 1pm. Having gone to our room at 12.30 to pack up, our card did not work and the maid refused to let us into the room, this meant having to go back down to reception.
