“Great service and spacious room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013 via mobile

We booked our room for three nights at the last minute. Our reserved room type was unavailable and we were upgraded. We loved our room! The minibar was included with the room rate. This was fantastic since my husband tends to drink all the soda and juice no matter the price. The concierge was especially helpful. The hotel is only five years old but the building is over 100 years young! This means you witness some great architecture but also get a few quirks. Our room was down a level. You go through a few twists and tuns and you can get lost easily. It adds to the adventure and th staff are more than happy to escort you if needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful art nouveau hotel with spa, nice restaurant, location close to train station. I have stayed 5 times and do not care to stay anywhere else. Free mini bar is nice. Espresso maker in room is great. Pool is soft and quiet. steam rooms and saunas are a nice touch. English, french, dutch newspapers, Easy walk to tram system at central station. Nice walk to nieuwmarkt square and it's restaurants, Amarath is quiet elegance, professional staff, my starting and ending point for 3 month long trips to Europe

Room Tip: Rooms with views are worth the extra cost.

Great location but at first a bit disconcerting to find no expected lobby. No real draw-back - just different. Would rate our suite as excellent with a very comfortable bed and bedding and a great bathroom. Loved the period decor of our room with modern amenities. Unfortunately, the restaurant food was way overpriced with lukewarm mini portions and poor service. Breakfast service in the bar was great. Staff were very helpful and cheerful. Wish we had read all the information re the history of the building while there instead of after. Would definitely stay there again.

We visited the Amrath for the second time in November 2012 as a return trip after a much enjoyed visit in 2011. The Spa is excellent and the staff are very amicable and professional . The free minibar adds to the experience and the interesting architecture and location make the Amrath an ideal base for a walking tour of Amsterdam.

We did experience some issues with room noise at that time due to significant maintenance going on on the external part of the hotel . The Management however reacted to our complaints in a very professional manner and offered us a free upgrade to our room for this and a future visit which more than compensated us for any inconvenience ..... Thanks for the excellent customer service !!

I look forward to our next visit to Amsterdam and will definitely be returning to the Amrath !!

My wife and I stayed here at the end of Feb 2013. We had a long weekend (Fri-Mon) and got 3 nights for the price of 2. We arrived at 8pm and were given an unexpected and not requested upgrade to a suite (thank you Amrath). Our bags were taken to the room by a porter who gave us info about the hotel and facilities of the room (he also politely declined a tip). The hotel is quite gothic looking from the outside and can be a bit of a maze when trying to find your way around, but this is the only slightly negative thing I have to say about the place. Fantastic staff, 2 min walk to the centre of Amsterdam but far enough away not to be too influenced by the crazy city, the rooms are big and comfortable, with all the trimmings you would expect from a 5 star. The mini bar in the room is free and topped up daily; it has a few beers, branded spirits, mixers and even chocolate bars. We really enjoyed our stay and would go back there without a doubt. It was not the cheapest option but in my opinion worth every penny. See you soon Amrath.

Room Tip: facing the city

The location near the centraa bus/train station puts you right in the thick of things, but strangely close to the red light/cannabis centers as well. The building is a converted Admiralty building (ie office building) which gives it a quirky atmosphere - clearly not a cut and paste design. No real entrance or lobby, strange room layouts, expansive bathrooms, humongous windows. Spa/pool/jacuzzi were small, but fun, and basically you have them all to yourself. Every member of the staff gives 110% with a smile. Avoid the breakfast charges by taking advantage of the local street opportunities.

Room Tip: you can get a great deal by using services like priceline.com.
