“Great location for museum visits”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

This hotel is in a great location for visiting museums and attractions, and is also very close to a huge variety of designer shops. Tram stops to other locations were quite close too. The hotel room itself was clean and reasonably comfortable, with an adequate sized bathroom. The room was slightly on the small side, but if you are out sightseeing all day this shouldn't be too much of a problem. The beds were made and towels were changed every day during our three day stay. Staff at the front desk were always helpful. Overall, a decent hotel in a good area for sightseeing.

The hotel is situated within easy walking distance of the major museums and tram stops for going further afield. We had excellent breakfasts in the hotel but had to go elsewhere for lunch and dinner. We had very good meals in the Van Gogh museum and a local Thai restaurant. The area is a bit dead in the evenings, Dam Square being better. Our room was very cramped as an extra single bed had been squeezed in. Our beds were not very comfortable. Watch out for cyclists - there are thousands of them and they are all mad.

Room Tip: Try and get a park view. The street view is awful.

The hotel is located next to Vondelpark (some rooms have view of park) and very close to some major museums (Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk) in a neighborhood of mixed residential and (expensive) shopping. Trams very close. Rooms are very small but clean and with the expected amenities (tea kettle, wifi, safe. There is an elevator but some room are a few stairs up or down from elevator levels, so check if you have mobility issues. Breakfast is ok, not too extensive a choice. My only problem was that my window was easily accessible from garden so I had to keep it closed - ask for higher floors. Also street facing room may be noisy on summer weekend evenings, ask for park-facing room.

We had no idea what this hotel would be like, but wanted to be an easy walk to museums, especially the Rijksmuseum. As it turned out, we had a very short walk to the museum. The hotel was clean, the extra 10 euros for breakfast was well worth it, and the access to public transportation was terrific. The room price was reasonable as well. We booked through Booking.Com, but the desk clerk, one of the most knowledgeable and helpful desk clerks in my experience, said it would have been quite a bit cheaper if we had booked directly. We felt quite safe in the neighborhood even at night. We had a new security safe in the room, a good shower and a comfortable bed. The room temperature was fine and the privacy drapes were in good shape. The downside of this hotel was the size of the room. It was really quite tiny. Since we spent only sleep time and personal care time in the room, it did not matter to us, but it might to others. I rated this hotel only average as, I think, others would see the room size as a problem. If the room had been larger, it would have been a very good rating.

Room Tip: Being in the back of the hotel kept us from hearing street noise.

After reading other reviews i was worried about where i had booked! Once we got there i was happily surprised, friendly receptionist, room was clean, bed was really comfy sunk into it. English speaking channels on the telly and the shower was powerful and hot! Breakfast was good, everyone we met on the desk spoke good english and was really helpful. It's close to parks and museums and really expensive shopping street nice to window shop! We stayed 3 nights and would stay here again :)

I don't want to complain, I knew I wasn't going to stay at a fancy 5-star hotel, but there are some things I want to get off my chest and for the rest to know.

Our room was the size of a ship cabin, but for 2 nights that's okay enough.
Cleaning appliances and other things such as toilet paper were just lying around at random places.
Breakfast wasn't much but you could get your sandwich and coffee to start the day.
The staff didn't bother to say hello, even the ones at the reception. One particular was busy with playng a game on computer. Housekeepers were chit chatting in loud foreign language, and didn't even stop when customers were around.
On our last night we asked at the reception if we could make our check out an hour later and he said it was totally fine, wrote our room number down etc. BUT the next morning, after housekeeper had opened our door for 3 times and seen that we were still in bed, she started to wake us and I had to tell her that we had made an agreement at the reception about checking out at 12 instead of 11AM. THEN about 15 minutes later some man opened our door and told us that the check out time had already passed, so I told him the same I had told to the housekeeper. AND THEN we received a phone call and it was reception telling us that the check out time was almost an hour ago. Well, make your own conclusions about the work ethic and attitude there...
And finally, we had to store our luggage for couple of hours, and the luggage storing place was the "restaurant" where the breakfast takes place, between the tables and there was a note not to leave belongings unattended because the hotel is not responsible for them. A bit ironic or what.

Those are the reasons I'd rather call this place a hostel or an accommodation service instead of a HOTEL, because that title should imply some standards, even if it is a 3-star one.

The plus side is, that there was a good and no extra charge wifi connection.

If you are on a budget and looking for a place to stay for a 1-3 night trip then it's totally doable but I personally wouldn't go back in any case.

This hotel is well situated for visiting all the attractions with the public transport system located in under a few hundred yards. We got to Schipol Airport and took the 197 bus from stand B on the plaza - this drops you off within a few hundred yards of the hotel. There are a few restaurants locally and an excellent underground supermarket of Sainsbury's quality. This is an ideal hotel for the Concert Hall and the Van Gogh museum.
The hotel room was small and clean. The bathroom had no toilet lid so you had to be careful in case you dropped anything down the loo! The room was freezing as the radiator was blocked off by the bed headboards. The kettle couldn't be used as the 2ft of lead was too short to reach the 4ft socket - stupid!! We had no hot water for one day. The net curtains had brown lumpy whatever stuck to them. The electrical socket under the desk looked like a fire waiting to happen with loads of poor looking wiring. The towels had holes in them. The television was stuck on one channel. Reception were not really bothered about any problems - they just said things were being attended too! I never got my promised extension lead yet!!
Breakfast was nice with plenty of meat and cheese to choose from. I would go to this area again but not this hotel!!
