“Nice base for short break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2014

Just back from a two night stay at inner. Was dubious because of awful reviews but my doubts about the place were soon forgotten. On arriving early morning in the dam I emailed the hostel to ask if we could leave luggage before check in, got a reply straight away. Headed there dropped luggage in locked luggage room and was also told there were free safety deposit boxes if needed. Friendly reception staff nice first impression. Check in quick and simple got given two room keys for our twin en suite. Yes corridors are bit shabby but didn't bother us we weren't sleeping in them. Room was decent size, laminate floors were clean, furniture modern and clean. Fresh towels supplied, shower gel and hand soap in bathroom. Shower hot and spacious. Beds were two singles pushed together when I sat on it was so soft I sank right in but after an early flight and all day walking the city we both slept like babies. Fresh towels supplied next day too and also reception open 24/7. Didn't use any communal areas but looked like plenty seating for larger groups. Bottom line if on a budget wanting clean friendly accommodation and u don't mind being bit further out you can't go wrong here. It is a hostel but surely when booking people realise this. Would stay again!!!!!!

This hostel is perfect for a few nights, it has the basic. It is clean. The bathroom has everything you need. It does get a little hot at night but apart from that the beds are comfortable. The receptionists were extremely helpful and friendly. The location is again very good as it is not right in the town but the tram is just round the corner and it is near all the main museums.

We stayed here for one night and were very impressed. The rooms were clean and the location was central so it was perfect for touristy stuff. The staff were so helpful and kind and they let us leave our bags here for 2 days and we weren't even staying here. Great value for money if you're staying in the hostel and eating your own food. Nice dining room area which is communal and you get to see a lot of people so it's quite social. And free wifi! Bonus. Two thumbs up if you're on a budget :)

As a hostel this is ok. The accommodation is what you would expect and is clean and comfortable. It is however expensive for what you get when compared to the YHA for example. What spoilt the whole experience for us was the appalling service from a member of the reception staff on the second morning. He was disinterested, abrupt and accused us of lying about the breakfast deal we were given the morning before. I have never been treated so poorly by 'hotel' staff before

I see that there is a lot of negative feedback here, and quite frankly I think it's undeserved. You're not getting a luxurious hotel here, but keep in mind that that's not what you're paying for either. This hotel is really cheap, centrally located, has friendly staff and clean, basic rooms, most of them with bunk beds. A pub on the main floor, which also serves a basic breakfast in the mornings. Would recommend for school trips, groups of friends, et cetera, and will probably stay here again myself :)

Very close to the Van Gogh museum, so the location is great. However, this is a hostel, not a hotel, so the standards are not high. The private bathroom was clean, but the rest was pretty basic. There were 6 beds in the room, so there was always someone coming in. I guess that these are the standards for all hostels, but the less beds in the room, the better. Considering the price of €45 for 2 nights, I'm sure there are better options in Amsterdam.

We booked via ebookers and there is no mention anywhere that this place is not a hotel (it is classed under budget hotel). And not a very good hostel either - I have stayed in much better hostels in so-called third world countries and in central Amsterdam for a much better price and quality. The first room we checked in was in appalling conditions, had dirty bedsheets (hairs everywhere) and the door would not shut. When I returned to reception to ask for another room, one of the receptionists accused me of having used the room, then he said he would arrange maintenance to sand the door (no offer to change the sheets). I refused and asked for a new room. This was a lot bigger and airy, with nicer view if only we could bring ourselves to touch the filthy curtains. There were cigarette butts and hairpins stuck into the wooden floor, dirt everywhere, a collection of dead insects on the light shade and a broken mirror. The bathroom was drafty (there was a gap between the frame and the brickwork) and the first morning we did not have any hot water - we showered in cold water in another friend's room, whose bathroom was a bit warmer than ours. The receptionist could not care the less and did not even pretend to apologise. After housekeeping, our room smelled worse that it did and didn't look any better (more hairpins and other stuff on the floor). The overall state of the place is appalling: corridors are covered in smelly and dirty carpets, it looks like the place has not been cleaned since it was built. We had breakfast included in the rate but did not dare trying it. You are better off going to Bagel & Beans nearby for similar price.
The punters are mostly youngsters, but there were also some unsavoury characters that seemed to be living there.
At check-out, we left the bags there and when we collected them, the door of the storage room was fully open and there were bags scattered around as if someone had been through them in a hurry. It was most probably some inconsiderate idiot who stayed there, but the staff at reception was not aware and didn't seem to care when I told her. In fact, they didn't even check on us when we collected by asking room number or name and handed over the key to the storage. This means anyone can access the storage room or indeed the rooms. So beware what you leave behind when you go out.
I would not recommend this place to anyone but the desperate who cannot find another accommodation and wants to be close the major museums. The location was the only positive side of this dive.

Room Tip: All the rooms are noisy, bring earplugs. The ones on the second floor seem bigger than the other flo...
