“Good clean rooms, but don't keep anything out of sight in the hostel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2008

Myself and a group of 35 college students stayed here for 7 nights. I got a good 6 bed dorm which was laid out well and had a nice bathroom. Towels were provided daily. Other rooms were like a maze (bunkbeds set out strangely) and some rooms didn't have a shower door so with 8 lads the bathroom wasn't pretty. Two items of value were stolen from the breakfast room. This is seemingly a common complaint from all hostels in Amsterdam as there are professional gangs who hit hostels. If you keep a hand on your belongings at all times you should avoid this opportunistic crime. Mice and ants were seen in the kitchen area which was pretty disgusting. The breakfast was typical hostel fare and was pretty decent. Overall I'd probably stay here again as most accomodation in Amsterdam is fairly poor and it was in a beautiful area of Amsterdam with good tram links and restaurants nearby.

just got back from amsterdam having stayed at the inner hotel .the situation is good being in the museum quarter.i have been to amsterdam many hundreds of times and can honestly say that this is the worst hotel i have stayed in the reception is very grubby and careworn and is in need of redecoration .the carpets throughout the hotel are dirty and grubby.the room my friend had was a small double there was no hanging space for clothes and only about 8inches between the bed and the wall .The bathroom was more of a wet room coz everything got wet .My room was a small single and wasit small?.it had added noise from guests coming in between 1am and 3am. the breakfast was typically dutch and perfectly ok the hotels only saving grace oh yes free internet acces if you can get on it with all the students hogging it..overall not a pleasant experience for my pals birthday treat AVOID!!!!!!!!

Our first night of the trip after the long flight to Amsterdam, luckily we could check in immediately. Staff quite amenable, hot shower and reasonably clean. Noisy at night, particularly rooms by the stairs and people arriving back late. Breakfast was typically Dutch and substantial. Free internet on three computers in the reception area a bonus although smoking allowed. Good location, only five minutes from the Rijks and Van Gogh museums, close to a supermarket and the tram. Also backs on to the concert hall and we managed to get half price tickets to a concert.

When we entered the hotel looked ok. I was a bit worried that our room on the 4th floor had the window removed and one large pane of glass had been put in, which meant if a fire broke out on that floor we had no means of escape. The bathroom stunk of sewage or methane or something equally unpleasant and the room was too hot to sleep in (we obviously couldn't open a window!) I was bitten all over my body on the first night while in bed and spoke to other guests who had also been bitten. I don't know if it was fleas or bed bugs but I'm still scratching now! The bar was only open for 2 night during the 5 nights we stayed. It is certainly the worst hotel I've ever stayed in.

If you keep your expectations realistic and modest, this is a reasonably-priced hostel, but nothing more. The cleanliness of the rooms, unusually for a hostel, doesn't seem to be a problem. For the most part, they're well-appointed, with recently modernised bathrooms and decent bedding. As in most hostels, the preponderance of youthful residents, attracted by Amsterdam's anything-goes culture, means it's impossible to guarantee peace and quiet. The bar is decidedly rudimentary, and often noisy. This appears to present some problems for the neighbours, since the hostel is located in a quiet, attractive, salubrious area. On the plus side, the free breakfasts, while basic, are plentiful and filling.

Overall, this a reasonable choice for the budget-conscious.

I booked a double room at this 'hotel' through a reputable internet booking site and was expecting to stay at a basic two star hotel. Nothing could have prepared me for the horrid reality of this dirty youth hostel. On arrival I was 'greeted' by crowds of backpackers smoking in the street. On entering the room, there was a double bed which there was not enough room to walk around and a wardrobe which couldn't be opened since the room was so small. A small room would not be so bad if it had been clean, however the walls were dirty as were the sheets and after asking for towels at reception I was given two grubby bath towels and no hand towel. The bathroom was 'designed' as a wet room. In reality the shower had broken off the shower bracket so that you had to hold the shower at all times, the shelf had also broken so in order to shower you had to put the shower gel & other toiletries on top of the toilet. Worst of all was the overpowering stench which came from the sink and worsened throughout our stay until I opened the bathroom door on the second day and was physically sick. A plumber visited the room on two occassions to provide a quick fix, but on the second night of our stay I could no longer bear entering the bathroom since I could not enter without gagging. After complaining at reception I was offered a room with bunk beds! (not what I had envisaged when I had booked a basic, recently renovated, two star traditional hotel. I had been prepared for basic accommodation but not for a hostel). With one more night booked at this hotel I could not bear to spend another sleepless night (there were people running up and down the corridors and shouting at all hours) in this dirty hell hole and so booked into the Leidse Square hotel behind the Marriot. What a relief! Clean, friendly staff, great location and an edible breakfast. As for the Inner, just don't even think about it!

Quick check-in. Not enough safes and the luggage room security was questionable but the beds were comfy with clean sheets and towels. The bathroom is the newest one I've seen yet in europe. I recommend shower shoes though. The breakfast is great: all you can eat with vegetarian options and protein! There is a fridge and microwave for making your own dinner although the 12.50 all you can eat is a popular option apparently. The cleaning staff are pretty nice although they were kinda noisy in the morning when I was getting up (their trash area was next to my window). Free wifi and a bar that can be rowdy at times with smoke and ok-priced beer. I liked the remove from the trashier parts of Amsterdam. For the price, it was worth it!
