“Blundering laundry destroys hotels efforts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012

Westcord art hotel is almost perfect. We stayed two nights from the 20th to the 22nd of August. The staff were very efficient and helpful. The hotel room was very clean and well presented with a view of the terrace and outdoor swimming pool. The brasserie (restaurant) was very pleasant and the service in the restaurant was typically Dutch; helpful if not overly friendly. This suited us nicely. My only concern on the first night was that the towels were creased so not pressed. on the second night we found that the sheets were dirty even though the dustbin had been changed, used tea and coffee facilities had been replenished, used cups were washed, the bed had been made and the bathroom was clean. It seems the hotel's launderer is letting them down. That said, when we complained, they replaced the sheet straightaway. Everything a hotel should do, Westcord did well, even the location was good. We chose to walk into town which takes 20-30 mins and takes you through the very lovely westerpark and a quaint little vegetable market by Haarlemerplein. If only their laundry was better...

First day arrived with no warm welcome, one staff was keep talking with another! No signs of noticing. The room size was good, with mystery noise of every 3 minutes was annoying! The cleanness for rooms needs to be imporved, toilet wall was not well cleaned, all towles and bed linen are with strong smell! Sofa with heavy dust! Hotel only have very soft signle beds in a big frame! The location with public transportation to the city center was a good point. Free Wifi is another advantage of this hotel, but renting a bicycle for 15 euro per day is too expensive! Swimming pool is big, due to the weather we did not check it out!
Amsterdam is an interesting city, we would like to come back once but not in this hotel!

We've just come back from a 3 night stay in this hotel and i would highly recommend it . The reception staff were so helpful and friendly. The whole hotel rooms, restaurant, bar infact all areas were spotlessly clean . It is really easy to get to Amsterdam town centre because right outside the hotel is a bus stop with the No 48 bus running every 15 mins .We will certainly be using this hotel again .

We stayed at the 4 stars Westcord Art Hotel for 3 nights on July 16, before taking the Baltic cruise. The hotel is located in a quiet area of Amsterdam, 5 to 10 mins ride to downtown with a choice of 2 bus lines, every 15 mins. The hotel public area and rooms are sparkling clean, rooms larger then what I expect in Europe. The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful.
We arrived at the hotel early in the morning, after an overnight flight from Toronto, and to our surprise the room was ready, so we could catch up on sleep, and refresh before going into town.
Getting to the hotel from the airport is fast and inexpensive, no need for taxy or shuttle service. We had read a couple of previous reviews and followed the one taking train to Sloterdijk station and then 48 bus to Hempoint which is right outside the hotel. It took less than 30 minutes, much quicker than going right into Amsterdam central, fantastic.
We had a package which included the buffee breakfast, which we really enjoyed. with a full variety of cold and hot items, as well as fantastic coffee, I wish the cruise lines will start using good coffee..
Would most certainly recommend this hotel and if we go again to Amsterdam, we will certainly stay here!! The hotel more then made up for the bad weather we had in Amsterdam.

Me and my friends stayed on a long weekend starting from the 27th to 29th. Check in was abit slow but overall the front desk was nice to us considering we was a bunch of 9 tired lads on a stag do.

Our room was clean, shower was ok.

The staff member that made us feel welcomed was a young lady at the bar called Rachel, She was very helpful and nice to us.

Me and my boys will defo stay here again.

We stayed in this hotel for an extra long weekend recently. We made the BIG mistake of getting a taxi from Central Station, as I had previously emailed the hotel asking how much it would be and they stated about €13, so that was fair enough when I added on the train fare from the aerport to Central Station. However, the taxi man charged us €25!!!!! for less than a 10min drive, so DO NOT on any account get a taxi. As previously stated on this site, the hotel has a bus route directly outside which brings you to and from Central station in 10mins. You can walk to the city centre, but it is a long enough walk and more than the 20mins quoted on this site. If you are use to walking, grand, if not, get the bus (No 48).
The reception staff where grand, efficient, dutiful but not warm and friendly. The bar staff on the other hand go out of their way to be friendly and polite and chat to you. We had a lovely night watching the opening ceremony of the Olympics in the bar. Snack food was reasonably priced.
Room was nice. The toilet being separate to the shower/bathroom was a bit disconcerting and an issue if you needed to go to the toilet late at night. There was too much light in the bedroom, so we had to block up all the areas emitting light (front door, lights on step to bed) and because of this it was quite difficult to get from the toilet to the bathroom late at night. Other than that the room was lovely, air conditioning worked very well and room cleaning was efficient.
Amsterdam itself was a great spot. If you are from another Euro country you won't find anything cheaper than at home and I actually thought, that my home country, Ireland, was a bit cheaper for snack food. Would go back again, but with a hotel that was nearer.

Deae Sue035Dublin,

Thank you very much for your extensive review on Tripadvisor.
I am very sorry to read that you have been overcharged by a taxi driver. A maximum of EUR 13,- is a fair rate. EUR 25,- is too much!

All your comments will help us to continuously improve our service and facilities.

Thanks again and we are looking forward to welcome you again!

Stayed here on business. I was genuinely surprised by how pleasant and well run the hotel was. It takes the concept of boutique hotels, with quirky style and modern twists and does it very well on a large scale.

The coffee room, restaurant and terrace are all well run and have plenty of room for the visitor to use. The wi fi is excellent and free, something of an added bonus to anyone, but particularly to the business traveller who has become fed up of paying extra because you need to connect with PC, ipad and phone only to find each is a separate charge at some establishments.

The rooms are great, with all the modern fittings one could require save one, and this is my only criticism of any substance, there are nowhere near enough sockets to plug in phone, PC etc. Why not put a socket either side of the bed for phones at least? A desk in today’s business market with only one socket? This is such a silly oversight.

Overall brilliant “ on the edge of town” option at exceedingly good rates.
