“Far from madding crowds”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2011 via mobile

The hotel has normal size rooms, a bonus in The Netherlands but located outside city center. The acces to the city is via bus 48 with a station in proximity. The ride to Central Station is ~10 min. The bus arrives every 10 min or 15 min after 9 PM. A 24(7€)/48/72(15€) hrs can be purchased from reception. There is a good AC in every room and a fantastic huge pool in the back. Service is average and young receptionist may not necessarily speak fluent English; make good eye contact to determine if they understood you. Parking and breakfast are very expensive. If you do not mind public transit this business hotel is a more comfortable and cheaper alternative to a downtown hotel

Dear guest,

Thank you very much for your review!
All comments do help us to imrove our services and facilities.
Our underground parking cost 22,50 per 24 hours, parking outside in front of the hotel is more expensive. Next to our buffet breakfast, we serve a la carte breakfast in our Brasserie.

We are looking forward to welcome you back.

Best regards,

Small fridge/mini bar(if you call reception they can unlock the fridge so you can remove their items and use the fridge for your own things)
Public swmming pool in back
Supermarket close by - walk down the street(away from gas station).
Decor - local artists' work hang in lobby
Free espressos/tea in the 4 star hotel lobby

After a gruelling flight from Toronto, it was a pleasure to rest and stay in that well appointed and furnished hotel midway between the airport and Amsterdam. The beds were good, the rooms were spacious, affordable and quiet.
It was also easy to take a local bus to reach quickly and cheaply the city-centre.
The staff was impeccably polite and accommodating.
A very nice choice while visiting Amsterdam.

Just returned from a short break to this hotel and was very satisified with our stay.
IThe hotel is situated around 20 minutes in a taxi from the airport which costs around 40 euros and it's 10 minutes on bus number 48 to get directly into the centre of the city.
The hotel's exterior is not a thing of beauty (think 1970's prison) but the reception area is light and spacious and our bedroom was of very generous proportions with comfortable beds and a spotless bathroom with a decent shower. The furniture wasn't the most modern ( a sort of cream melamine) and the walls that knobbly sort of paint finish but it was very clean throughout and quiet despite being by a busy road.
The staff here are one of the hotel's main assets, all fleunt in English and very friendly and helpful.
The set breakfast is expensive but you can choose to have something off the menu in the bistro from 9am which is far more reasonable, the scrambled egges were excellent and the croissants warm and fresh from the oven.
We paid a very reasonable internet rate for the hotel and would definitely use it again, it's perfect for a short break.

Dear guest,

thank you verry much for your extensive review. It is good to read that you have enjouyed our services and facilities. I am happy to share your compliments to our staff with the entire team.
Since the hotel is only 10 years old, I must say that I found your comparison with a "1970 prison" a bit odd to read.
Maybe you have noticed all the Herman Brood artwork inside. We are currently planning to add some to the hotel exterior.
It is also good to read that you enjoyed breakfast in our new Art Brasserie.
We are looking forward to welcome you back!

If you want a good quality and value close to Amsterdam city centre, then look no further thatn the Westcord Art Hotel. Staff are polite and provide excellent service, rooms are clean and comfortable and the restaurant serves good food.

The hotel is about a 10 min bus ride to the city centre, but you will save around 50 euros per night on a similar quality hotel.

All in all a great value hotel!

I stayed at this hotel 3 years ago when it was run by another hotel group and it was faultless. Upon my return we were off to a disappointing start when upon my 18:00 arrival I was told my rooms (3 of them) weren't ready. Check in is from 14:00 so I wasn't happy with this. Me and my travelling party went and got a drink at the bar outside an waited around 1 hour to 90 minutes for our rooms. By this time it was about 19:00. The hotel is a 15-20 minute walk to central station. 5 minutes on a bicycle, in a cab or on the local bus which runs every 10-15 minutes. Cabs will charge €15 to take you into town (about 1.5 miles) and on an evening expect to pay €15 to return or €5 per head if more than 3 are getting on a cab.

The hotel is cleen with good facilities that you would expect from a 4 or 4*+ hotel.
