“Perfect Location. Small room!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2014

WE stayed at Quentin last November during a Europe trip.
The hotel is very well located.
Check in was without problem. There is a snack bar at the reception.
We did not take the breakfast. You can walk around and do that for less money.
The room is incredible small. No space for 2 big luggages (we used under the bed).
Bathroom is also small, the shower fit only 1 person and has a courtain.
Heater works well during our time.

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights on May 2014. Our room was small (understandable in Amsterdam?) but had no natural light other than from an internal light shaft. Room was very stuffy even in moderate weather. Not being able to see daylight from the room was frustrating. Apparently all the canal facing rooms are triples but you dont get told that when making a booking. Also negotiating the front stairs with luggage is quite a challenge. Wouldnt stay there again even though the staff were quite helpful.

The location of the hotel is great, but the rooms weren't clean. Dirty floor and dirty sheets on our bed. It seemed as only the towels had been replaced for our visit as you could tell right away that the room hadn't really been serviced. Since we were on a trip with friends and only stayed for one night it was ok. Would not recommend anyone staying there.

Location is decent, around the corner from the Leidseplein which is a decent area to drink and eat.

I've been to Amsterdam a few times and this has to be the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Oliver/Olivier whatever the receptionists name is was just plain rude. Asked for 3 beds in a triple room, gave a double bed and a sofa bed (room 310). Asked to change rooms and he wasn't having any of it. Talked to us like we were a piece of dog dirt on his shoes. Windows don't stay open so we had to prop them open with Heineken cans. Avoid this place if you can!!

Stayed here for my Stag Weekend with 7 others. Perfect location, close to bars, coffee shops, restaurants etc. Staff were friendly. We had three rooms booked. Two were average and the third one was pretty decent, complete with a balcony ! I definitely recommend booking this suite !

If your looking for a no frills hotel that is right by the canal and is within a good proximity of Dam Square etc then this hotel is for you...

Me and my partner chose this hotel as it was close enough to the town centre (Damrak) but far enough away as not to be bothered by the many pubs and restaurants around the area. Online, it looked lovely! right on the canal with gorgeous looking rooms, however this was very misinformed. Yes we were on the canal, but no we did not receive a nice room at all - more like a box room you'd find hidden away in a flat. This hotel advertised their 'private bathroom' very well however, upon arriving, we realised it was not a bathroom at all, it was a SMALL wet room where the sink and toilet ended up covered in water after every shower use! Although, we had decided that there was so much to do in Amsterdam, (and I mean a lot! we didn't manage everything sadly!) that we would just deal with it as we weren't likely to be in the room a lot! BUT!!!! When we were in the room, normally 12am/1am, we found it very difficult to sleep. They have in their fine print that they cannot guarantee a noise free room and boy they definitely couldn't! For a hotel that is undergoing (or already had) work done, it did not seem like it! The pipes were very noisy and we heard every time someone above or near us flushed a toilet, or turned on a tap. Another issue is that whatever was below our window (we were on the first floor), whether it be another room or something, we could constantly hear a buzzing noise, like a laundry room or a boiler. This was excruciatingly loud and disturbed every night we slept! Such a disappointing hotel to say the least and I would definitely recommend anyone to find another hotel or at least make sure you don't get the room we did!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view, and perhaps you won't go through what we had to!!

I booked a twin room here based on the photos of the hotel and facilities offered. I did think the rooms in the photos were a bit small and basic, but for the price, in the middle of Amsterdam, it looked ok.
When we arrived the staff seemed disinterested and slightly annoyed .. with everybody. This is probably because they had to tell many people who arrived that they were actually not going to be accommodated in the Quentin, but had to walk around the corner to a nondescript entry into another "hotel" with dismal narrow corridors, really steep stairs and small airless rooms. No staff, No safety notices etc.
Not only did the receptionist casually tell us we weren't staying at the hotel we booked, but he insisted on taking full payment in advance.
The twin room we were sent to was much smaller than the one we thought we had booked in the Quentin, with "very" basic amenities. There were only two small towels in a very small bathroom, with a tiny sink, toilet, and grubby shower, all of which could all be touched at the same time whilst standing at the sink.
I did make a point of telling the staff at reception in the Quentin that I was not happy with being given alternative accommodation with no explanation. I told them that I was not happy with the accommodation, and I asked if there was a discount for the move to the lower standard alternative accommodation.
My comments and questions were met with a disinterested, tired, "That is the way it is. Take it or leave it" kind of attitude.
I seriously thought that many of the reviewers of this hotel on this site were exaggerating, or being too picky, about what is basically a 3 star central hotel in a major European capital city, but I would now have to say I agree with most of their negative comments. I could go on, but I suggest that you read and seriously consider the views and comments made by myself and the many other reviews who rate this hotel as "terrible"

Room Tip: There is a good chance that you may not be given the room you choose, book, or pay for anyway.
