Ok, so it's an old hotel, rooms, are reasonably clean (I could walk around the room in my bare feet) which says alot. There are no extras such as safety deposit boxes, you get one towel which is replaced every two days (another towel would be helpful as the bathroom is a wet room so water from the shower gets everywhere so it would be nice to stand on something as opposed to nearly killing yourself on the slippy tiles!) behind the beds and the skirting boards could do with a good clean but overall, it's grand, location is excellent I have to say, views are also nice.

But one receptionist (I think the guy who probably owns the hotel) is so unbelievably horrible, tight and rude. My poor friend's suitcase got lost and we asked him if he would ring us on the mobile if it turned up at the hotel while we were out and he simply asnwered no because it would cost him to make the phonecall! He was sarcastic....you have to pay a € 20 deposit to get a remote 4 ur TV and when I asked if I would defo get it back, I recieved a very smart and sarcastic reply to the meaning of a 'deposit'.

Overall, it's grand, I mean don't be expecting any extras...I stayed in the Singel Hotel near central station before and it was much better so would recommened that...just not as central but still pretty close to everything.

Location - Excellent, just round the corner from main areas.

Hotel - Clean, plain, old.

Room - Comfy bed, Wardrobe with 2 hangers inside, TV with loads of channels, we even watched Eastenders one night. Window view was of a building site at the back end of the hotel (not the hotels fault), we stayed in room 406.

Service - The bedding was changed, the towels were taken but not replaced.

Bathroom - Clean, good shower, decent sized mirror.

Staff - Only ever saw one person sat behind reception, polite-ish.

Other - Apparently there is a bar in the hotel but there was no signs or anything.

Overall, if I was going to visit Amsterdam again I would pick the Quentin Hotel as it's all you need as you tend not to spend that much time there anyway.

  • Liked — Just a quiet, regular hotel, no outside noise.
  • Disliked — Very steep steps to gain access to the building, No kitchen in room.

We just came back from our trip to Amsterdam, where we stayed at "The Quentin" for three nights.
Having read the reviews here I really was a little bit scared what would be awaiting us.
We had a double room on the 4th floor. It was - as we were expecting looking at the prize of the hotel room - quite a small room but we had a perfect view of the canals in direction to the bridge. The room and the bathroom were very simple, but clean.
When there was a problem with the heating in our room (quite in the evening), it was immediately solved.
The hotel is situated on one of the best places in Amsterdam (100 metres from the Leidseplein). The tram station is a 3-minutes-walk away... There are lots of little restaurants, pubs, cafes around so that we didn't have breakfast in the hotel.
Summary: a cheap hotel, clean, friendly... would go there again.

Within the past few months, I've travelled extensively throughout Europe, and I can honestly say this was the worst of the many accomodations I stayed in.

After booking the hotel by phone a couple of days before my prospective arrival, I read the TripAdvisor reviews and was eager to cancel, but by the time I called back, it was too late: cancellations must be made at least 72 hours in advance to avoid penalty. I thus decided to give the place a whirl.

Quite frankly, the hotel is not as bad as many reviews had led me to believe. Renovations appear to have been completed, and despite water-stained curtains, the must appeared to have been banished, at least from my room. Nevertheless, I was quick to notice a few pink spots on my sheets. Fearing that they might be blood, I asked for replacements, and though I was grateful to receive them, the new sheets were definitely blood-stained and sported a cigarette hole to boot. When I attempted to arrange the blanket, I noticed that under its oversheet, it too was blood-stained (and contained a strand or two of a stranger's hair), and one of the towels, which I had to request specially, was worn through in one spot.

In addition, I felt somewhat uncomfortable walking back to the hotel at night -- It's near a lively area but not quite in it. This discomfort was heightened by the fact that the hotel door was locked when I returned (before 10 p.m., I believe). Knocking seemed to have no effect, and when I tried to call the hotel to tell someone I was outside, there was no answer. Finally, another guest came along with a key; I'm not sure why she had one and I didn't.

I realize that this hotel is inexpensive, but its price does not excuse it from meeting basic standards of sanitation -- and I've stayed in cheaper places of much higher quality. I hate to say it, but this is one hotel that is better avoided.

We have not long come back from this Hotel, It is based in an excellent part of Amsterdam which i have been to many times, I have never been to this Hotel before but i would say if you are looking for a Hotel which is close to all amenities, this is for you the rooms are ample but clean. The upper floors are great and have a lift. It is a hotel on a budget which believe me you can get a lot worse than this. The staff are friendly and it is one of the easier Hotels to check into yes you pay on arrival but this is a natural thing when abroad. The only down side which i could see is that there are no safety deposit boxes unless this is a must for you stay at the Quentin Hotel by the Leidseplein, you really cannot go wrong, 6 guys cannot be wrong can we.
