“Very good base in a decent quiet area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014

We have been to Amsterdam many times and stayed in many areas. Jordaan is our favourite area as it's still so close to the centre but quiet enough to get some rest. The area also has very good restaurants and shops nearby.

We stayed in The Times hotel after making a very last minute decision to come to Amsterdam a day early on a road trip in The Netherlands, and a very good deal at 79 euros. Considering the price, we expected something much less and as we were only going to be laying our head for the night, thought we'd just make do. But we were very pleasantly surprised with the accommodation. The room was clean and décor up to date. Bathroom had everything you need including shower gels and shampoos etc, service very helpful and friendly, the beds and pillows were pretty comfortable and it had air conditioning. Not much more you could ask for.

You don't come to this hotel for romance or to have luxury accommodation, however it is certainly better than many budget hotels we've stayed in and will certainly stay here again when on a budget trip to Amsterdam. It is the perfect base in which to explore Amsterdam.

The only downside is the stairs - BUT - this is an issue in most Amsterdam accommodation due to their tall thin buildings. However, where our room was, the steep stairs split 3 ways so was a little scary, I wouldn't recommend it if you have difficulty walking, or if you come back intoxicated! There are lifts but you still need to tackle some stairs to get to some rooms.

All in all, we would stay here again and for the price range is a great hotel

We had a canal view room with a perfect view and the location was marvellous, but I was so disappointed with the quality of the room. Yes it was tiny but I knew that when I booked, but it just felt grubby and tired and had an awful aroma which I think was rotting carpet underlay. I could have complained about that when I got there but the view was great and I specifically wanted a canal view. That said the bathroom looked as though it had recently been refitted and was a decent size. With such a tiny room it was difficult to find anywhere to put anything so we were surprised that there wasn't even a shelf above bed. We only could use one tiny bedside table as the other was used for the tea and coffee tray. Wardrobe was cheap and tatty and carpet was I suppose purple industrial at it's thinest. Coffee cup not cleaned and replaced one day. Actually I think I could have overlooked all this had the room not been so expensive at 219 euros a night, without breakfast. Room desperately needed a redecorate. Loved the old master painting though.

Staff at reception were lovely and breakfast was OK.

We had one night in Amsterdam on our way back from Africa to US, so we picked a hotel with a good location. The Times Hotel turned out to be a big hit. While the rooms are not large, there was definitely enough space. The teenagers LOVED the room with the spiral staircase up to the loft. And I was happy to find the room actually had 1.5 bathrooms (not the 1 I had expected). The staff was really helpful & helped us get into the room early despite the fact that the people who had it the night before us left late (and reluctantly). And the location was fabulous. One downside was that the room is on the street & I was woken up one time in the night by a loud group walking by. The rest of the night was completely quiet.

This hotel conveys a differentiated offer, rooms are artsy with a floor to ceiling mural and large windows. The guy at the reception was very nice and helpful, this place is located very close to the Anne Frank museum. Breakfast was good. I would definitely recommend.

Staying at this hotel for the third year in a row, its on a canal, great area and very close to Dam square. Service it professional, personal, caring and accommodating as can be. Breakfast area overlooking the canal is a great way to start the day.

Since this will probably be our last visit to Amsterdam, I wanted to make sure we stayed on one of the canals. We asked for....we received....and we paid for a room with a canal view. It was on the top floor which was OK...but the canal view was not that wonderful. To see the canal, we had to stand right at the window...the canal could not be seen from anywhere else in the room. Since our room was on the top floor, the sloping ceiling (while picturesque) hampered the space in the room. One one side of the bed there was only 12 inches between the bed and the wall. The same was true at the end of the bed. The head of the bed was against the sloping wall/ceiling, and there was only about 18 inches from the 4th side of the bed and the storage cabinet. There wasn't really any room to put our 2 carry-on sized suitcases except on the minimal floor space. Moving around in this room was really difficult. One the flip side, the bathroom was decent sized and had a great shower. The lights were placed over the bathroom mirror badly....I couldn't really see well enough to shave. We felt the breakfast, although we did look at it, was overpriced and didn't eat here. The staff was helpful with all our questions...although we were not impressed by the company that provided the canal tour that we purchased through the hotel at a discounted price. All that being said, the location of this hotel is wonderful....about a 15--20 walk to/from the Centraal Station....and to most major attractions located in the city center. A tram line is just 2 blocks away so you can catch a tram to attractions that are farther away. BUT, the hotel is in a very quiet neighborhood...the best of both worlds....convenient..and quiet. If only the rooms were larger...
