“Excellent hotel, marvelous view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2011

A very nice hotel, clean and modern with large rooms - some of which have spectacular views of the Amsterdam skyline and river traffic. Nice bar and restaurant on the main floor. A Subway sandwich shop is right next door if you get the urge. Public transport is right outside the front door, but many interesting locations are within walking distance. Hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. The Hotel is very expensive, but the location and amenities make up for it.

Hotel is nice and of a 4star standard although it surprisingly does not have a swimming pool or a steam room, instead it has 2 sauna's. Room was spacious enough and had free wi-fi, which was essential. It is located a little out of Amsterdam Centre and although the hotel says it's only a 10 min walk, it's actually about 20 mins if you're in good shape. The reception service is also not great. Our room was not ready when we arrived to check in and there is no queing system at reception, so there was usually a bit of a wait with people queue jumping, which the reception staff did not seem to care about. I would advise staying there only if you get a very good deal on price and there is nothing comparable available closer to town.

Excellent room. Booked online, good value, didn't expect good quality rooms but were pleasantly surprised. We returned a few weeks later also. Breakfast excellent, didn't try the restaurant but bar meals OK. Excellent location with one tram stop to Amsterdam central. Would stay again if I get chance.

This is my second time in this hotel and all went just fine! The room is spacious, staff extremely friendly and professional, bathroom very good and modern, all very clean. I asked room service, which was quick and the food is well presented and tasty. There is just a small issue that should be solved: the minibar is empty, however room service is 24 hours.

Dear Ms. Sousa,

Thank you for choosing Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre as your residence on your recent trip to Amsterdam and for taking the time to provide us with your valuable feedback.

We have experienced that the majority of our guests would like to use the minibar as their own fridge and stock it with their favorite drinks or food. Therefore the minibar in the standard rooms is always empty but can be filled on request.

We are happy to hear your comments and that you enjoyed your stay with us so much. Looking forward to the opportunity of welcoming you back again.

With warm regards,
Albert Rouwendal

Very clean, friendly staff, great rooms, well furnished.
Only downside is the walk into Amsterdam - probably about 15 minutes which normally is fine but at dark it's a little quiet and wouldn't do it alone.
Also, quite expensive and not including breakfast in the price however we suspect this is characteristic of Amsterdam rather than this hotel specifically.

My boyfriend and I visited Amsterdam for NYE and booked this hotel based on other recommendations we'd read on this site. We were not at all disappointed.
The hotel is only a 10-15 minute walk from Centraal Station or one stop on the tram (line 25 or 26). Being slightly out of the centre meant a really peaceful nights sleep but everything is very easily accessible. An unlimited 24 hour travelcard costs 7 euro and can be used on trams and buses (I think water buses too but we only used the tram).
Upon check-in we found the staff the be incredibly helpful and friendly. We were initially told that the king bed we'd booked wasn't available however we could wait to see if this changed: we decided to wait and have a drink in the bar and within 10 minutes a king room had been found. If you do visit the bar I recommend the chocomel with whipped cream!
Our room was on the 14th floor with amazing views over the river and city (I just wish we'd been lucky enough to experience clearer skies).
Our room and bathroom were spotlessly clean throughout our stay. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms spacious. I used the free wi-fi several times and found the connection to be fast and reliable.
We had breakfast both mornings and it was delicious with lots of choice, ranging from fruit and yoghurt to cold meats and cheese to bacon and eggs. We also had room service and ordered four cheese pizza and a chicken sandwich (from the night menu), both of which were delicious.
Check-out was smooth and fast, and when we came back in the evening to collect our bags they were brought out to us very quickly.
The only downside I can think of is a very minor complaint - the shower was quite weak, possible due to us being on such a high floor, and one of the main things I usually love about hotels is the power shower. But as I said, a minor issue!
All in all this is a really fantastic hotel, I couldn't recommend it highly enough. I would certainly be happy to stay here again if I ever return to Amsterdam.

We booked this hotel under their special, "stay 3 nights and pay for 2". Unfortunately, due to the winter storms in Europe, we arrived a day late. The rate of our rooms would have been much higher since we were only staying 2 nights, however, they completely honored the initial rate, which we were very pleased with.

Breakfast was included in our room rate and it was excellent. Plenty of options to choose from and the service in the restaurant was excellent. We ordered room service for our daughters one evening and the food arrived promptly and hot.

Our only complaint was a very leaky bathroom faucet that unfortunately soaked a pair of our shoes which we didn't realize were placed directly in line of that leak.

The location is ideal if you're looking for peace & quiet. Beautiful views from the room and the hotel is on the tram line, however...a bit of a challenge walking from the tram in 3" of snow.

I'd definitely recommend this hotel.
