“Simply outstanding - Moevenpick is the way forward”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2010

Its one of those experiences in life .....

You come home and reflect ......

And wish you were still there

The service was Outstanding. Welcoming was extremely friendly. Concierge was first class. Room was beautiful ( we were upgraded to a junior suite, from an executive
room ). Breakfast, although extremely busy was vast and staff very courteous. The sauna etc was absolutely first class facilities.

I'll be back. Moevenpick is just the best hotel chain i have used so far.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at The Moevenpick, (2 couples in there late 40s)
Getting There
Tip 1 - Get the train from the airport to Central Station it cost 4.20 Euros per person each way as opposed to 55/60 Euros in a taxi.
The Hotel is only a 10 / 15 mins walk from Central Station or a couple of stops on the tram (No. 26) we decided to walk as it was such a nice day (leaving the station at the main entrance, turning left, following the road around a bend and then turning right, the hotel can then be seen dead ahead)
Tip 1 - Watch out for bicycles! They are everywhere, and not to keen on slowing for pedestrians!! Keep out of the cycle lanes!!
The hotel is large, modern, & comfortable, we found (in no particular order)
- Free wi-fi in the rooms
- 2 free Internet access points in the lobby
- Excellent views of the Amstel River
- Carpeted corridors (nice and quite)
- Excellent breakfast choice
- Shower over bath had good pressure
- Iron & board
- Hairdryer
- Fridge (not stocked so ideal for filling with your own beers and choccies!!)
- + all the usual complimentary toiletries

- TV had BBC1, Sky News, CNN, Bloomberg + other foreign channels
- Sauna & Gym (although not used by us)
Tip 2 - A must for getting about is a Tram / Bus pass, get your ticket at the shop in the hotel, it cost 11.5 Euros for a 48 hr pass, the tram stop is over the road from the hotel. Pass becomes active from your 1st journey (note - every time you get on AND off the tram you must place you pass in front of the scanner located at exits on the trams)
There is a free bus ran by the hotel into the centre but we used the trams as we often went further afield.
Tip 3 - We found the 8 Euro canal boat tour (forgot the name but were brown Teak wooden boats) to be very good value for money, they are located close to the train station next to the Thomson Canal boat tours which were 2 and 3 times the price

Staff - All very helpful throughout our stay, very attentive.

If you want a hotel where you walk straight out onto the canals then this is not for you, if you are looking for a hotel that is away from the hustle & bustle, yet still within easy reach of all that Amsterdam offers then you wont go far wrong with The Moevenpick.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend to anyone.

Hotel is located a little north of centre (I think I would have preferred something more in town to be closer to shops & restaurants), but has a free shuttle to/from the central train station. Concierge service is excellent, so be sure to ask about tours and such. Restaurant is expensive, but the bar serves food all day until midnight, with large portions so it's good value. I swear the martinis were doubles. Rooms are small but nice, with cool step-in showers that have no doors because a wall of glass shields the shower area from the rest of the bathroom. No tubs, though. Lots of shelf space in the bathrooms for toilettries, etc. Internet available in-room, with several options ranging from "free limited" to the works. We used the free limited, which was completely adequate for what we wanted to do (email, surf, online games). If you want to do a lot of downloading of things, though (such as lots of email attachments, online videos, or things involving a lot of graphics), you'll want to use a paid option ("limited" referred to bandwidth, 512kb/sec).

Not too bad of a walk from the train station, we did it a few times. There is a bit of a sketchy part where the construction is close to the train station, but the route is fairly well travelled so not really a problem. They do have a shuttle and you may be able to call the hotel and have them pick you up, they also drive to the station every 1/2 hour or so. Ask at the desk. Staff friendly, but the big hotels lack the friendly personal feeling that you get from the smaller ones. I got a good deal on the hotel by bidding the room through priceline at betterbidding.com. This is definitely an option when you are traveling and you can use it as a treat, which this hotel certainly was. Nice clean, large rooms with a great view.
It seemed to be cheaper to just order room service for breakfast. I think it was 23 euro per person for the breakfast buffet, but you could get breakfast for 2 delivered to your room for 25 euro. The restaurant only offered buffet for breakfast.

Location: If you stick with Tram 25 you can get around Amsterdam and back to your hotel without any problem. Or its about a 10 min walk to Dam Street. Its location is great to explorte the many wonders of Amsterdam and then come back to the quiet relaxed area of the hotel.
Service: Great service and consistant - Even when the hotel was full, we never founf the service compromised,. The breakfasts are great, plenty of food and the tables are set out like Wagamama's and exceptionally clean.
If this is your first time to Amsterdam and like me you have now looked at hundreds of hotels and reviews, pick the Movenpick, it is perfect but you do have to hunt for a good price but if you get that too you will not be disappointed!

Lovely hotel and very friendly staff, would recommend if available to go with the club rooms and also try and take the rooms in the top floor. The hotel also has great restaurants and although the room reservation is option for breakfast, it would be worth the treat and take the break fast option. Great spread and super service and quality food. The hotel location is also very good for travelers with cars as there is a nearby shuttle which will take you to a really cheap 24 hrs car park.

Even though the hotel was a 15 minute walk to central station, we could easily take the tram that was located close to the hotel. We enjoyed the accommodations which had a great view of the city and water way. The rooms were very clean, quiet and comfortable. Also enjoyed burger and beer night at the hotel bar. Staff was always helpful and gave good recommendations when requested.
