“Great Hotel, and close to everything”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2009

We stayed here prior to boarding a river cruise. It was a fantastic hotel. The staff were awesome, each taking the time to make their service personal.

The hotel is not right in the old town, but they do provide a free shuttle, which takes 5 minutes to get there. We walked most of the time...it is just 10 minutes by foot. The hotel is immediately next door to the new cruise terminal, and also has easy access to public transport.

Their breakfast buffet is really good.

This was a really nice hotel, but note that it's not really a tourist hotel but more of a business hotel even though at weekend it seem to be packed with tourista and people out to party in Amsterdam. They have low weekend rates and a hotel more centrally located in the city centre would be more expensive in the weekends. It's close to the central station but it's a Euro12-15 taxi trip to the nightlife area. It's probably more ideal as a business hotell than a hotel for the party people. But the view from the rooms are probably the best in Amsterdam.

We took a round trip Scandinavian cruise from Amsterdam and stayed at the Movenpick in Amsterdam for four days before the cruise. The hotel is located next to the cruise ship terminal so were able to sleep late and walk just a few steps to the terminal the morning we embarked the ship.
We had a great view of the city from our room. The room was clean and comfortable and we opted for the free breakfast instead of the room upgrade because we didn't spend much time in the room anyway. The breakfast was very good although the milk was terrible.
Sometimes we walked to Central Station and other times we caught the train from in front of the Movenpick. Amsterdam has an excellent mass transit system.
I would highly recommend the Movenpick.

Hotel not in city center but a great location easy walk to the center of things.
I takes about 10 minutes to get to the center of things.
You are on the river and there isn't anything right there to eat but a subway and the resturant in the Hotel . So you might be wise to eat before you go back to hotel.
The rooms are very nice, clean, and the people who work for hotel are great--very helpful.
Great location if you are taking a cruise from Amsterdam. My group took a cruise from amsterdam and it was so eay to get on cruise ship from the Hotel--right next door.
If you look at their website you can catch some really good deals that include breakfast everymorning.

So my cousin and I (20-something guys) decided to join a group of 8 friends on a bachelor party trip to Amsterdam. My friends toook one of those cheap all 8-in-0one room hostel rooms. Needing to stay in a bit more luxorious place, I decided to look aroud Trip Advisor and found this gem of a place!

We found a great buy 2 nights - get 1 night free rate, and since we split the room we each payed only like $10 more than our buddies who were slumming it.

And boy, what a wonderful hotel. ON the waterfront, with a WONDERFUL view of the water and the incomin cruiseships - very serene especially when you're relaxing after a full day of debauchery. There was a tram stop right arcross the hotel, but even at 3am when I walked back alone from Centraal (a 5-10min walk) there was no danger at all - very nice walk on brightly lit main roads. There is also a free shuttle every half hour to centraal.

The room itself was very spacious, and very modern in design which I loved. The funky unclosable glass door was a bit weird at first but hell, you're in AMsterdam so lose your inhibitions! There is also a nice sofa in the room.

We opted to go in for the free breakfast over being upgraded to the next level of room - and what a good choice that way. The breakfast buffet was EXPANSIVe to say the leave, with tons of fresh bread, salads, meats, yogurts and a fresh omelette station. All 3 days we ended up eating so much at the breakfast (it closes at 11, but we woke up at 10:45 and rushed there, and they let us stay till we finished, no rush) that we never had to eat again till the evening!

Seeing the cramped quarters my friends ended up, i was glad we chose this hotel! it may not be a very 'happening' place like the other hostels in the center of town, but believe me - you'll do fine drinking and partying there but having a nice quiet, posh place to come back to (especially if you have company ;)).

There is a great gym that we didnt take advatange of, and there are free computers you can use near the lobby.

Oh, and dont forget to order the swiss icecream from room service - best butterscotch and caramel sauce ever.

Movenpick was the best decision we made in Amsterdam, and that's saying a lot :)

We stayed in Moevenpick Amsterdam City Center for seven days in August 2009. The hotel facilities were excellent. The view from the 20th floor was great. Hotel staff was caring and helpful. Breakfast was always inviting! We enjoyed our stay and look forward to returining someday in future.

Having traveled a fair bit this year, I was getting tired of staying in substandard hotels that were nevertheless billed as 4 star. This was the reverse. It's billed as 4 star, but it is much more.

Everything went smoothly. The booking process was swift and accurate (some hotel websites are dodgy). We telephoned on the morning of arrival from the airport and asked if we could check in early and they arranged it for us. Upon arrival, check in was efficient and friendly. The entire hotel is non-smoking, so there's no concern about getting a non-smoking room (which is really important for me).

The hotel has been there for only 3 years, so everything is nice and new. The room was incredibly large by Amsterdam standards (there was a sofa, and a large writing desk, with plenty of space for suitcases and coats). We were given a room on the 17th floor, with a view of the pier and towards the city. The cleanliness was of a very high standard (even the carpet felt clean, which is a big ask in hotels).

The little details were also appreciated. E.g., a proper wall fitting to hang your coats on, the discrete cupboards (containing safe, fridge, iron and ironing board, two bathrobes), complimentary bottle of water, the fact that the bathroom had some free surfaces for your stuff (usually hotels pack it with their own stuff and there's no room for yours). Service was excellent. Room service was very quick. And they make their own fresh low fat yoghurt for breakfast. Very nice fitness centre with quality cardio machines and weights.

Overall, I was very happy with this hotel, and will stay there again. A very perfect Swiss experience. I know some people have said it's out of the way - it's not in the middle of the canals, but I don't think that's such a bad thing. Having stayed in city centre hotels on previous occasions, I have to say they're not all great. They're very small, the bathrooms and tiny (and can smell a lot because of the plumbing issues in the city) and you'll be constantly surrounded by hens and stags. At the Moevenpick, we had a very civilised experience (for a very reasonable price) 17 floors above. It just depends what you want.
