“A great hotel , not in the center”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 weeks ago

If you prefer a good hotel , not in the center but in a great location (very close to the central station, near the Bimhuis). Large rooms , good atmosphere, nice view and above all kind service.
Breakfast is perfect - a lot of vegetables , hot and cold dishes.

Room Tip: Upper floors , facing the river (north)

My wife and I were booked into the Movenpick overnight prior to joining an Avalon River Cruise - other than the receptionist inexplicitly denying any knowledge of Avalon (one of their biggest customers), we were very happy. the location is very handy to the city centre (and Avalon vessels), rooms very good, great views and exceptional breakfast.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of the river

Dear donmalcolm,
We hoep you had an enjoyable River Cruise with Avalon and are truly pleased to read your stay in our hotel has been a satisfactory one. We apologize for the fact one of our staffmembers appeared not to be aware of the correct name of Avalon Cruises. Confusion may have been Globus/ Avalon cruises. We will ensure to have this shared within the related teams.

Your overall positive comments are much appreciated. We hope to welcome you again in our hotel and give you new memories.

Kind regards,
The General Manager

We were greeted by good staff who were helpful in all ways. When we had lost one of our bags they went above and beyond to find it for us.
The Concierge was very helpful and was able to get us a good deal on Canal tours, about 2 Euro's less than the tour company was charging.
Very good buffet Breakfast.
All rooms have a very nice view of the canal and the traffic there, this alone was worth staying.
It is situated within easy walking distance of most interest points and the staff are very helpful with maps and directions.
It is quiet at night and the rooms are comfortable.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good, you are guaranteed a view from either side of the building.

Stayed at the end of May for 3 nights. Good choice. Yes its 15 minutes walk to Centraal station but its an easy walk, it also means the hotel is dead quite at night never heard any noise, not even another room door close.

The rooms were a bit warm for our liking but still slept okay. Breakfast was the only meal we had in the hotel but this was excellent with plenty choice for everyone.

All the staff were excellent and friendly and they even gave as a free upgrade to Junior suite. Excellent.. Would we use the Movenpick again if we were to go to Amsterdam again. YES.

Thank you to the Moevenpick staff for an enjoyable stay. Hope to return one day.

I have stayed at the Amsterdam Movenpick a few times within the last 6 years. The hotel has consistency - the rooms are adequate and depending on which side you are on - a water view is spectacular. The service has always been good and in particular, the bar servers are very good.

I stay at the Movenpick for business and am rarely in the room other than to sleep and shower. I don't think the room would be sufficient if you planned to spend a lot of time in the hotel, as the beds are a bit firm and the chair is not really intended for long term lounging.

The bathroom is spacious and better than many others in European hotels.

Breakfast was included in my room charge and the buffet was well stocked with breads, meats & cheeses, cereals, nuts, fruit, eggs, bacon, sausage and roasted vegetables. It was always very well prepared.

The best part of this hotel is the location. You are not in the heart of Amsterdam, but just a short walk to Centraal Station, shopping, restaurants and museums.

Moevenpick Hotel Amsterdam is one of the best properties probably in Amsterdam, As a person visiting Amsterdam for the first time this hotel makes you feel very comfortable- Smooth check in -- All my requests for a high floor with a view were respected and provided for. One of the best things i honestly LOVED is the concierge at the Hotel--- The Concierge is one person you should definitely meet before stepping out of the hotel- They will tell you the best sights of the city, how to get around- be it by bike or tram or segway or train they know it all. Additionally the concierge has access to fast access passes for almost every tourist attraction in the city. (Advise buy the Canal boat cruise tickets from here as you do get an extremely good rate). The concierge does provide a helpful drop and pick up service from the Centrall station but word of advise just do book it in advance as it does tend to get full quickly. If you happen to miss this -- right opposite the hotel is a tram stop - Tram number 26 will take you to the central station from where you can hop on to another tram connecting you to any other part of the city you wish to travel to.

The breakfast served at the hotel was excellent , fresh and was an international buffet, very very tasty.

Thank you Movenpick for the great experience we thank you for the great memories.

Regards
John

Room Tip: As for a high floor with a room facing Central station :)

Our cruise people picked this hotel, and while it was far from horrible, it was disappointing.

First, the good: Great, helpful staff; modern decor was nice. Frankly, though, if it hadn't been for the staff, there would be one star less.

I'd read several reviews of the hotel before I went, and a couple of them advised upgrading to the executive floor for the great view and benefits. Yes indeed, there was a great view--but my traveling companions were three floors down and they, too, had a great view. The room itself was not what I'd expected from an upgrade--the shower walls near where the water flowed were dotted with black--likely mold. The "king-size bed" was two singles squashed together. Turn-down service was included, but the room server didn't leave chocolate or turn down the bed the second night. It's not that I need chocolate, but it was, indeed, a sign of carelessness in every sense of the word, underscored by the wineglass that I'd brought in the night before not being removed. I will say that the high-speed Internet worked fine--when it worked; the personnel in the executive lounge were very helpful in getting it going. The snacks and wine were good, too, but not worth the upgrade. The upgrade wasn't a whole lot, but the basic bill most certainly was. If I return to Amsterdam, the Moevenpick will not be a first pick.
