I stayed here with my family for a few days and they all agreed with me that this hotel was wonderful. The combination of the modern design, the many amenities and the friendly staff make this a great hotel. Here's my breakdown:
Check in: Was smooth and quick. They spoke excellent English which made it more comfortable for me. The card key is required to operate the elevator which puzzled me at first because I didn't know it required it. Some other guests I ran into also had the same difficulties. I guess it's for security reasons.
Hotel: A relatively new hotel so expect it to be modern. Includes a bar, restaurant, gym, sauna and conference rooms. A business centre is available free of charge to guests on the main floor. The lobby has comfy couches, a flat screen displaying the news and a screen displaying train information from central station. A nice touch.
Rooms: I can't say enough about these rooms. Again, you need the card key to turn on the electricity in the room. A great idea to prevent wasting electricity. The design of the room is a modern one. Rooms offer a safe, fridge, bottled water and all other amenities expected. Take a look at the photos on this site to get a better idea. The glass door to the bathroom does not fully close or lock (twin rooms). The beds were very comfortable and so were the pillows. One neat thing they offer is a variety of different pillows that may better suit your needs. Call the guest services and you can receive a different pillow. View from the room was good too. A cruise ship docked next door and was quite nice to look at.
Location: This is the only part about the hotel that did not exceed my expectations. Located on the harbour, about 10 - 15 mins walking from central station. The area surrounding it has close to no shops or restaurants within easy walking distance. The hotel has made available a shuttle service that runs every 30 mins to the central station that was very convenient for me and my family. Getting back depends on preference. People can arrange a pickup around the same time the shuttle makes the round to the station, or the can take the tram (#26). I took the tram each time to get back and it took 1.60 euros and 5 mins of my time. Taxi is a more costly option. A great alternative is to rent a bike. I think there is a rental spot in front of the hotel. Most (about half) of people in Amsterdam ride bikes because it is the most effective way to get around.
Staff: The people who work there are true professionals in the hotel industry. They were always courteous and helpful when approached. Staff were top notch, especially those at the concierge.
Conclusion:This is a great hotel for almost anyone. If you can get a good price then it is definitely worth it. During rainy days we looked forward to heading back to the hotel. The location is not great but there are many options available to get back and forth. This hotel made our stay in Amsterdam that much better.
