“The best I've stayed in!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

When we arrived I upgraded our room for 65 euros. This was well worth it. Immediate check in on level 19. Great view. We checked in at 10 am.
The staff were very helpful and it was easy to get help at the concierge. We booked tours and sort advice. The breakfast was excellent. The only suggestion is a larger or second toast machine. Because we upgraded to executive we got a free happy hour in the executve lounge every evening betweeen 5 and 7 pm. This was worth the upgrade alone. The hotel was a 10 minute walk from the red light district. This is a positive as you were away from the craziness. We hired bike from the carpark below. Made it easier to get around.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone. I recommend you upgrade to executive. I will stay here again.
Mark from Australia the upgrade alone.

Dear Mark S,
Thank you very much for your extensive and positive feedback. We are pleased to learn you enjoyed the extra benefits an upgrade to a Junior Suite includes, such as wonderful views, the breakfast included etc. Thank you also for your suggestion with regards to having a larger toast machine. We will take this into consideration for future renovations. Our hotel being just outside the city centre allows you to explore Amsterdam, and have a peaceful rest afterwards.

Please stay with us again on your next visit.

Kind regards,
Daniël Kaan

Had an excellent stay with my girlfriend on our city break. Staff were very attentative and friendly. Stayed in a junior suite, complimentary bar was always filled. Breakfast very comprehensive. No faults! Don't worry about the hotel being too far. It is only 5-10min walk from Central Station. Much better than staying in the noisy dirty inner city.

I have stayed about 8 times in this hotel and it never fails to disappoint. The staff is great and attentive. The rooms are spacious with a modern touch, nothing stuffy here and there is a promenade that you can get some fresh air on while walking to the central station (about 10 minutes away). It is also one bus stop to the station if you have lots of luggage. I highly recommend this hotel and have been staying here since 2006. You can't go wrong in this place.

We found a great P&O Superbreaks deal which included a night in this hotel together with the return overnight ferry trips between Hull and Rotterdam.

Our transfer bus dropped us at Centraal Station and we walked to the hotel which is well located on the River Ij close to Nemo Science Centre. Even with our bags this was only about a 10 minute walk. As other reviews state there is a shuttle bus to and from hotel. Tram number 26 also stops right outside and some of the river boats drop off at the hotel jetty. We preferred to walk both ways, which allowed us to take in the urban landscape of Amsterdam. (A quick thank you to "Herolden" who gave us the easiest walking route in his review dated 24 September 2013)

Check in was busy but welcoming and efficient and the queues were well managed. Our room wasn't ready as we were quite early, but we were able to leave our luggage and return to the city centre for the rest of the day.

We returned several hours later and picked up our bags and room keys. Our standard room was on the 18th floor and offered us breathtaking views of the river and the city. The king size bed was very comfortable with good quality linens. We rather liked the idea of two separate duvets which other reviewers have criticised. The fridge was a nice touch for chilling our own drinks. We had plenty of space for clothing and a safe (which is free to use) is supplied too. The bathroom was stunning with heated floor and nice toiletries. The towels were huge and fluffy and the shower was hot and powerful.

The only slight criticism was the meagre supply of coffee, milk and sugar but we are sure we could have asked for more if we really needed it. We did not take breakfast in the hotel as it was quite pricey and we were on a budget. Amsterdam is full of cheap eating places and there is no need to go hungry.

Check out was efficient and friendly and free storage was again supplied for our bags. This allowed us to spend another day in Amsterdam before catching our transfer back to the ferry terminal in Rotterdam.

We would return to this hotel without hesitation and would love to have spent longer here. It's convenient for all the sights of this exciting city and the views from our room gave the trip a real wow factor.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor, the views are wonderful

My son was taking part in the Amsterdam marathon 2013 and I decided to go along to cheer him on. I booked the Moevenpick after extensive research on TripAdvisor and I was not disappointed. The location is great, so close to Central Station, and in addition I found the shuttle service very useful. My room was comfortable and clean and I really liked the large ensuite bathroom. More than anything though, I have to comment on the friendliness of the staff - from the reception staff to the Concierge, the waiters and even the lady in the gift shop, everybody was so friendly and helpful and their attitude really enhanced my stay. I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody and I hope it will not be long before I return for another visit. Thank you!

This is a pretty hotel and the food is very good. The rooms are well appointed and decent sized. Unfortunately the hotel suffers some service problems.

The wait staff in the restaurant and bar are very slow. In the week we were there we ate three meals in the hotel. Actually getting a waiter to come to the table to take drink or food orders was very difficult. All three times we waited over 45 minutes for our food. More than half the orders came out wrong the first time and a few were still wrong the second time they were served. However, the fact that the food is worth wait and, since the company was good, we would not have noticed the wait if we weren't so hungry.

The front desk staff were spotty. All of them tried their best to help and were friendly. However, one or two of them clearly didn't know what they were doing and refused to ask anyone else behind the counter for assistance when it was necessary. They also tended to answer questions that they should have referred to the concierge or other employees and this occasionally led to the wrong information being received.

The concierge staff was also hit or miss. One of the concierges knew everything (really) and his advice was perfect. A couple others were very good also. Another gave me incorrect directions twice and there was a fourth that was completely useless and not helpful at all. Additionally, the concierges were not always available when needed as they were frequently away from the desk for long periods of time to drive the shuttle bus.
