“Modern Hotel in Old Amsterdam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

If you look for something modern in old city Amsterdam, then, this hotel is the answer. I stayed in Junior Suite, and although comparing with other suite rooms in Asia you can not say it's spacious, but, comparing with other European standard, then, it's quite spacious.
By staying in this room you will get free access to the Executive lounge and breakfast, and I was surprised with a very huge selection of buffet breakfast in this hotel!
You can have free shuttle to the Central Station, however, make sure to pre-book for this, as they are almost always fully booked. If not, then, you will need to walk or take the tram right in front of the hotel.
In the afternoon, if you sit in the lobby, you can have free chocolate which is hand-made by the chef, and I must say, it's a very special Swiss chocolate!

Room Tip: Take Junior Suite for additional advantage

Lovely hotel and walk to the centre was about 10 minutes. Me and my other half went in Feb and stayed 2 nights. The staff were very helpful and even put a bar of chocolate and a birthday card in our room for my birthday. The hotel was clean and we'll presented. The atmosphere in the bar area didn't seem very inviting, luckily we aren't big drinkers. Over all very nice for the price we paid.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

We stayed (me and my husband) there for 5 nights last September, in a celebration trip for our first wedding anniversary. We stayed in a standard room. In the reservation, we asked for a quiet room, and got one with a very nice view (also very quiet). The room was spacious, the bed very comfortable. It had minibar, enough space for bags and clothes and a sofa. It’s a very big hotel, but the staff was very nice, and helped us every time we needed. The hotel has a shuttle for the Central Station (the distance is about 1,5 km), but we only used one time, when we were leaving. The best way to get around the city from there is using the tram (there’s a stop in front, in the other side of the road. From there, you can get to the Central Station in one stop, and go everywhere in the city with the other lines. We bought the 5 day pass for the tram (it costs about 25 euros), and it was our best investment in the city. With the tram, we were able to go to the hotel in the middle of the day and then go back to the city center very quickly and without walking too much. If you stay there, please buy the tram ticket for how many days you’ll stay in the city. You’ll thank me later.
The hotel building is very new and beautiful (something you don’t see everywhere in Amsterdam, where there’s a lot of old buildings). It’s an excellent choice for those that want to stay in a hotel that guarantees a certain level of service and comfort. We paid 130 euros/night, and made the reservation two months in advance – many other hotels in Amsterdam were already fully booked for the dates we needed.

Dear jfc21,
We are happy to read your (more than) positive and extensive feedback regarding your stay in September. Congratulations again on your first wedding anniversary, and thank you for spending this special occasion with us. It is correct we are a modern hotel just outside the busy city centre, offering a quiet place to stay. The public transport by tram is well organised, information can be received by our Front Desk.

We hope to welcome you again on your second anniversary!

Kind regards,

I don't generally opt for modern hotels but this was a lucky selection for me. The hotel is very clean, everything works and the staff very enthusiastic and caring. Check-in was excellent and my changed plans were accommodated very well with some really flexible and helpful work by reception. The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from Amsterdam Centraal - out the front door and turn left! With cases it's probably best to take a taxi though. The hotel bar had a really good atmosphere with many guests obviously opting to eat or drink at the hotel rather than go into town. Staff were friendly and attentive. A good find.

Room Tip: The higher the better as get some really good views of -for me- unseen Amsterdam with numerous rives...

We stayed for a week in September in an Executive room on the 20th (top) floor which had a fantastic view over the IJ towards the station. The room had very comfortable beds, plus a complimentary minibar (soft drinks and beer) and an espresso machine. The Exec package gave us access to the Executive Lounge with complimentary drinks and canapes between 5 and 7pm - great to be greeted with a glass of prosecco after a full day's walking round museums and streets. We didn't mind the walk to the station (although the hotel shuttle was very welcome with luggage) and also found some different ways back via the footbridges near Nemo. Being just away from the centre meant it was quiet. Breakfast was good, plenty of variety, and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms facing the IJ give a terrific view

This hotel is right next door to the Cruise Terminal where you can board for your cruise. It is a very quiet hotel andI am not sure that I would like to walk from the tram stop to the hotel after dark alone, even though it is opposite the hotel. There is a small eatery nearby as well as the best gourmet coffee ( real stuff ) in Amsterdam.
Only the Irish/Dutch concierge was at all helpful and the others seemed reluctant to give more than a bare bones comment. That man made up for it. I noticed the other travellers seemed to ask him for help too..
The room was one of the largest and very well appointed. The decor was a little drab, but mostly I had my eyes closed.
The wireless internet was what I would call dialup speed- very, very slow
Breakfast was adequate and good.
You are only a single stop from the Central Station on this tram line and make sure that you know where to catch it on the return journey. It actually does a loop and goes back and it took me ages to find this out. I would have expected that the hotel would have had a guest booklet with helpful hints like this, but I never found one.
Incidentally, Amsterdam is very crowded and you need to watch out as there are roving gangs of East Europeans who come to snatch bags here, because the Dutch simply do not punish them. They apparently just let them go. Not a safe city like Beijing
