“Amsterdam Easter Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

I had a good stay with my family at this hotel, however it is not in the centre. It is a 10 minute walk to central station or you can take the hotel shuttle bus . On one occasion although we tried to prebook the bus ,it was already full. The hotel should consider either getting a bigger bus or having a few buses to take people to the station as it is clearly needed. The design of the hotel is very modern and new which I liked. WE didn't eat any meals at the hotel and the choices for restaurants near the hotel was very limited, either a café or a Subway or an upmarket seafood restaurant next door. Had a drink in the hotel bar which had a buzzy atmosphere on a Friday evening.

Dear SKH31,

Thank you for your feedback with regard to your stay in our hotel. We apologize for any inconvenience you might have experienced due to the fully booked shuttle service.

As an alternative, we recently introduced a transfer to the Central Station by Tuk Tuk or you can use the public transporation. Tram 26 takes you with only one stop to the centre.

We hope you have had a nice couple of days in Amsterdam with your family and will be pleased to welcome you again next time you visit Amsterdam.

With kind regards,

Daniel Kaan

Stayed here with a friend, and read the reviews so knew what to expect. The hotel itself is about 15 mins walk from Centraal Station (which gets you everywhere). They have a shuttle bus which leaves every 30mins or so but you HAVE TO pre-book it a day in advance. Other option is to get the tram across the road from the hotel (you can buy their travelcard / tickets in the hotel gift shop).

Rooms were spacious, had a great view, and the staff were very professional. This is probably more a business hotel in a great location than a touristy type of hotel, but nonetheless very good room.

Friend I went with stayed in a 4* hotel in Dam Square last time and he said this hotel beats the socks off the other hotel he stayed in.

If you can live with the 15 min (mid-paced walker), distance to the station or willing to get a shuttle to station to get anywhere, this is a perfect hotel. I'd most likely stay here again.

Also used the gym too which was modern and compact.

Dear keefy888,

Thank you very much for your kind words with regard to your stay in our hotel. We are happy you appreciated our service and facilities. The Spa is a good place to relax after a busy day spent in the city centre.

Please visit us again next time you and your friends travel to Amsterdam.

We were warmly welcomed at the reception. We were given all the necessary information by the receptionist.

We were told that public parking was available in front of the hotel for a daily rate of 47 euros or we could park to another one which was 2 km away, for 8 euros because it was off the city limits. As a policy, the high price was set for parking within city limits to avoid traffic , as we were told.It was only 3 stops by the tram to reach to the parking lot for 8 euros and the tram stop was in front of the hotel, so it was not a big deal. However, it would be much convenient to have a valet service for some extra cost.

The receptionist asked whether we would like to have help for the luggages. We were very surprised later on that, our luggages were brought to our room not by a bellboy but a nice lady who was the manager which was very unusual and not very kind for her.

We stayed in a junior suit for 3 nights at a discounted rate of 250 euros per day, including breakfast. The room had a very nice view on 19th executive floor. It was much bigger than a junior suit with who two rooms actually, the bedroom was separated with a door from the sitting area. The bed was comfortable, the room was very quiet to have a perfect sleep. The bathroom was big and very clean. Minibar was complimentary, with some soft drinks and beer. Wi-fi was free and had good reception in the room.

The breakfast was good with lots of choices. There was a small executive lounge area, just next to the big breakfast room, not on a separate floor as we expected.

The concierge was helpful to give all the necessary information.

The hotel was located just one stop away from central station by tram. It was much better staying at this quiet area rather than the crowded city.

My wife and I just returned from a river cruise trip. We took a three day extension in Amsterdam and stayed at the Movenpick. This is a great hotel in all aspects with the sole downside being its location. While it is situated near the docks where the cruise ships sail from, it is not in the center of town. A shuttle is available, but it runs on a schedule and has limited capacity. Make a reservation for a ride for the time you want to go to town or else you may have to wait for the next available ride. There also is a tram that will take you to the Centraal Station. In coming back to the hotel from the city, either return before 11:00PM when the shuttle ends for the day, or take a tram or taxi. You also have to be sure to call the hotel to make the return pick up as it doesn't automatically go into town to make pickups if there is no one going into town. Although it is only about 15 minutes from the "heart" of Amsterdam, it is a world apart from the feel of Amsterdam. This is a modern hotel which could be found in just about any big city in the world. When one goes into town and starts exploring one gets a completely different experience.
Aside from my quibbling about it's location, this is a very good hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The concierge was also a great help to us in making reservations, suggestions, etc. The lounge area served delicious light meals. I would recommend The Movenpick.

Room Tip: Ask for a room as high as possible for good views.

Dear MartyG60950,

We hope you spent a nice couple of days in Amsterdam after disembarking your cruise.

Indeed, our hotel is located just next to the cruise terminal which proves to be very convenient for cruise passengers. And therefore, as you mention, not exactly in the busy city centre with easy connections to the Central Station, however, either by our shuttle service or public transport. Recently we introduced a transfer to the city by Tuk Tuk.

We hope you found our location in a more quiet setting relaxed after a busy day spent in the city centre and are happy to read that you especially appreciated the help of our staff and concierge.

We will be pleaesed to welcome you again in our hotel next time you visit Amsterdam.

With kind regards,

Daniel Kaan

This hotel is very nicely located (10-15 min walk from central station, opposite direction as old town) and in a great state, clean and very welcoming and knowledgeable staff. One thing which was very nice is that they had already all the correct details from my previous visit in the moevenpick in Istanbul, saves a lot of unnecessary duplications!

One minor thing is that the width of the (single) beds is small, I didn't measure it, but it is definitely smaller than usual. Nevertheless a great hotel (and I even got a free upgrade!).

Stayed for 3 nights in April. The staff were very friendly and informative and the rooms were clean and comfortable. We booked accommodation for 3 adults to share and were allocated one of the larger family rooms on the 3rd floor. It was very spacious with plenty of wardrobe space, iron & ironing board, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. The 3rd bed is a rather narrow Sofa Bed, not the most comfortable of places to sleep but it was okay for such a short duration. We thought the hotel would be much more central but it was out at the harbour approximately 20 minutes walk from Dam Square & the main Centre and a 10 minute walk from Central Station. The tram system is easy to use and I would recommend catching a tram to and from the airport for just over €4, it takes approximately 15 minutes. Quote for a Taxi to the airport was between €50 and €60!! Amsterdam has plenty of lovely restaurants, pubs and bars, check out the 'Smallest Pub in Town' close to Dam Square and for a delicious Indonesian meal head to 'Aneka Rasa'. We did the 100 highlights cruise which was very interesting and lasted for approx. 1 hour. The 'Hop On Hop Off' bus is another good way to see the sights but they can get held up in traffic and consequently you could be sitting on them or stood waiting for them for a while! Also recommend Anne Frank House & The Heineken Experience. Tip: watch out for the bicycles, they don't seem to stop at pedestrian crossings and they come from all directions so be aware.

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights. We asked about an upgrade to an Executive Room and paid an extra 65 Euros per night BUT we received a double upgrade to a Junior Suite which was just gorgeous.
This hotel is very well run, with excellent staff in all areas. The breakfast is as good as you could possibly wish to find anywhere and the restaurant dinner achieved a very high standard. It's a ten minute walk to the Central station, although a hotel bus is available - or a tram. Public transport in Holland is very good - worth buying a 24hour on/off tram ticket. Really enjoyed Amsterdam and for an excellent pub go to the cozy, authentic, Gollem bar, Raamsteeg 4,
