“Fantastic rooms and facilities, food could be better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

I stayed at this hotel for work reasons, and due to circumstances didn't have much choice, but I was pleasantly surprised by the well appointed room and the excellent other facilities in the building, including the gym and the spa. The room was large, sootlessly clean, light, comfortable, very well furnished with quality furniture, and most importantly a comfortable bed. Spacious, luxurious bathroom. And a great view over waterways and the city. The hotel spa is one of the best I've seen, I just wished there had been a pool as well. The food in the restaurant was pretty good with excellent service, the food in the bar was disappointing and so was the service. All in all a pleasant stay, and I would come back - I would just eat somewhere else. Oh, and I have to mention that the hotel isn't far from the Central Station, but despite the relatively short distance there is a free minibus service (which has to be booked in advance).

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors have great views.

Dear doubledutch59,

We are happy to read that you had such a pleasant stay in our hotel and enjoyed our facilities, especially the Spa.

We apologize, however, for the less fortunate experience you had while visiting our Silk Bar. We will take your comment into consideration during our next evaluation.

Please feel welcome to stay with us again next time your work brings you to Amsterdam.

With kind regards,

Check-in was ok despite the receptionist lacking in knowledge and experience.
Our room (standard) despite requesting a high floor was on the the 3rd floor, which is effectively the first with rooms on. However, it was spacious and clean. The TV was of good quality, plenty of channels serving a variety of Countries. The bathroom was small but serviceable. The worst point though was the bed. The twin beds are on some kind of base (which is an "ankle cracker") that cannot be moved and approximately half a meter from the wall. As there was no headboard the pillows consequently kept falling off the rear of the bed onto the floor behind, which was detramental to a good nights sleep. A pity really because the mattress was comfortable.
Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice.
The Hotel is 1 stop on the tram from Central station, or about a 15 minute walk.
Would we stay here again, the jury is still out.
We paid £369 for the two of us for 3 nights over the Easter weekend.

Decided to book pre-Rhine river cruise in this hotel because of proximity to port and ++ reviews on TA site. Sorely disappointed! Requested 2 adjacent rooms in quiet area but did not get it. Only one room ready for early check in. When 2nd room became available, it was next to elevator & far from quiet! Next, signed up for 10AM shuttle service; was in lobby at 9:55AM; waited until the concierge was done with customer to let him know we were there only to be told that shuttle left! Had long day tour of countyside & went down to Silk Room at 8 pm for dinner & told there was a 45 min wait even tho saw many empty tables! Ate dinner at lounge instead & food was ok & came promptly. Waited long again for bill & another server brought it as our server was busy chatting & not doing his job! So much for day 1. Day 2 uneventful as we were at Keukenhoff Garden all day. Checked out & left our luggage early with bell captain on day 3 for VanGogh museum & canal cruise before starting Viking cruise. Weather bad & no shuttle service to port. Best manager grudgingly offered was to call cab or wait another hr! Haven't I waited enough?? Never again will I stay in a Movenpick Hotel!

Room Tip: Ask for room with water view.

We stayed for two nights on our way to a Viking River Cruise. We can't say enough good things about the quality of the hotel, the professionalism of the staff, and the great food. The hotel is ten minutes from Central Station which made our navigating Amsterdam very easy. The room was very comfortable and immaculate. The buffet breakfast topped off a great stay.

The hotel is great! Staff goes out of their way to help and serve you in the reception, restaurant and bar. The executive rooms are amazing with great view over Amsterdam. You also have when you choose this room type free breakfast and access to the lounge. Here you have free drinks and snacks (which are very tasty!). Eating in the bar is very enjoyable.

Room Tip: Staff informed us that they refurbished the executive rooms. So choose this room category. They are...

I stayed here for three nights in March 2013. During my stay, I developed a skin rash. Fearing that I may have been exposed to bed bugs, I promptly reported this incident to the hotel's general manager, Daniel Kaan. He responded that the room has been inspected and no bed bugs were found. I sent him photos of the rash, and he threatened to take legal action against me for "slandering" the hotel. I have never been treated so poorly by a hotel manager. I will never stay here again and encourage others to think twice before sleeping there.
