“really good.......”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

clean, nice stuff - helpful stuff all of time, very good brakefast, anyhow all of dishes taste good, comfortable rooms, beds, service room. expensive parking if you travel by car. 48€ per 24h. you can push buttom "event" before leaving the parking. thats give you the possibility to save 6 or 8€. finishing - really good hotel, very close to the downtown, shuttel bus availalbe every 30 minutes. last one 19.30 every day. from the city center maybe 20 minutes walking, so as I guess no problem. I recommend.

Room Tip: stages up than 9-10 are especially fantastic. the view at whole Amsterdam is really beautyful.

A one night stay after a ferry trip from the UK. Great hotel, very friendly staff and very good breakfast. Only downside was the location. Though advertised as a hotel in the city centre it is anything but. A little far to walk from the central station. You can catch a tram (26) but that also leaves you with quite a walk to the hotel. The hotel does have a courtesy van to and from the station and there are always cabs.

I stayed at this hotel for just one night with a friend to extend our mini cruise from Hull to give a little more time to explore Amsterdam. We visited Reception early in the day with the intention of just dropping our luggage off. I then spoke to an amazing young lady called jane who gave us the best welcome to a hotel I have ever had in my life. She was so friendly and, for a modest sum, upgraded us to "executives" which entitled us to an amzing room on the 19th floor which wonderful views over the city. We were allowed to have the room straight away although it was only about 11am. This offer included breakfast, free mini bar in room, free bar in executive lounge for a couple of hours in the evening with complimentary buffet. Everything about this hotel was brilliant. The staff friendly and helpful, the food and drink great and the room was modern and comfortable with a fabulous coffee machine. The hotel is a little distance from the centre but a free shuttle is provided every 30 minutes. Our only disappointment is we were only stay for 1 night! I could recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Higher rooms for superb views. Plenty of lifts

I have held business related events at this hotel for some years now and I have always had a good experience. Staff are conscientiousness and thoughtful, rooms are clean and modern and it's not too far from the city centre (a swift 15 minute walk along the waterfront).

I would recommend it, but in general it is more of a business hotel that leisure so bear that in mind when booking. Oh, and they do a damn good breakfast here!

We stayed at the Movenpick in Amsterdam with our 3-year old during the week. We were initially disappointed that we had been given a 3rd floor room as we were excited about the views, but were told rooms lower down were larger. Indeed! Our room was huge, even with an extra bed made up for our tot!

Bathroom had a lovely bath which is great when travelling with small kids. The staff were fantastic with the little one, showering her with free cuddly toys, a wash mitt of her own and some colouring pencils. She was chuffed to say the least. The room's TV also has C-Beebies which is great for early evenings in.

Wifi was easy to connect to and although a little slow, it never crashed.
Breakfast was a vast array of delicious things, including some gorgeous croissants that taste best with the Movenpick jam on offer.

Clean, smart, friendly and accomodating - we would definitely use this hotel again.

Tips for travelling with young kids: Under 4's go free on public transport in Amsterdam. Ask at reception for pencils if you get stuck. You CAN drink the tap water in Holland! Kids love the Dutch pancakes available everywhere in Amsterdam. There's a petting zoo on Bickersgracht you can visit for free, ask the concierge.

We booked a room for a weekend away 26th Jan for 2 nights to celebrate my husbands birthday, got an fantastic price by booking through Hot Wire.com
The hotel was very easy to get to, arrived at the airport and got straight onto a train into Amsterdam, took 20 mins, buy your ticket before getting on the train from ticket machine very easy to use. As we came out of Central station we were right where the trams go from, buy a ticket from the driver, for 1 hour or 24 hour. The hotel is only 1 tram stop from Central station, and the trams run every 6 mins, and is just across from the hotel and is so easy to use, don't bother walking although it's not far would take 10-15 mins.
Checked in at hotel and went to our room, which had a great view over towards central station and the river. The room was very nice with a lovely bathroom and very clean. The only thing we had a problem with was the pillows, we found them a little too hard for our liking, but I guess it's personal preference, we did later find out we could have had them changed if you ask at reception.
Reception staff were very helpful and friendly all speaking excellent english.
Didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on the food, but did have a few drinks in the bar on the sunday night, the bar man was lovely and chatted to us telling us about life in Amsterdam etc.
Went on a canal trip with the Lovers cruise company, get your tickets just outside central station, 14 euro each for 1 hour cruise, worth the time seeing plenty of places of interest.
We found the dutch very friendly and helpful, and will return again someday.

Room Tip: High floor for great views

I've stayed in Amsterdam many times although this is the first time at the Moevenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Center. It's a bit misleading, it's about a 1km walk to the city centre with very little around in the vicinity by way of entertainment or shops. There is a hotel shuttle bus that runs between 07:30 and 19:30 every 30mins and drops you of at the central station. The hotel is situated on the water front and is very exposed to the elements. I expect nice in summer if you don't mind walking to the town centre.
The rooms are above average, modern with all you would expect for this hotel chain, although I did think that all things considered it was a bit over priced.
You do need to take a taxi to/from the city centre. Usually around euro 10 but be sure to ask the Taxi driver waiting outside what it cost before you get in. I did get charged euro 15 one time.
After you take in to account the cost of taxi's it starts to work out much more expensive.
see below photo taken from the room showing the route and distance to the central station.

Room Tip: All rooms are pretty much the same. Get a room at one of the top floors for the great views over the...

Dear aceebee,

Thank you for your feedback with regard to your stay in our hotel. We are happy to read that the room was to your satisfaction.

Indeed, we are located just outside the busy city center on the banks of the river IJ and we offer, as you mention, a free shuttle to and from the Central Station. Alternatively, our guests can travel with only one stop by tram, the tramstop is just in front of our hotel.

We do hope to be able to welcome you again next time you travel to Amsterdam.
