“Fantastic hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

this was a great hotel with a great view of the city and the port area. close to the train station for easy use of the tram system to travel around the city. rooms were great and the food was outstanding. ate in the morning buffets, which were the best I have ever seen. Dinner was agreat dining experience with an excellent selection and really great presentation. One of our co-party is an ex chef and he was really blown away. we were on a Viking cruise and this was the pre-trip selected hotel they chose for us. Great choice. To walk to the city center was a good long walk but great scenery of the city canals. Use the trams. easy to use. get a day pass for ~7.50 euros. one trip is around 3 euros. you can buy the day pass on the tram or at the station.

Room Tip: try to get rooms facing the train station because it gives a good view of the port waterway, the tra...

First the only negative point ,the location it supposedly a little away from the central station around a 15 minute walk or so , (now the perfect solution) u get tram number 26 rite from opposite the hotel which comes every 4 minutes a day pass comes for 7.5 euros so if u add 7.5 euros to the rom price per day what u get is a hotel which no other can match in city centre. By the way this hotel has been rated in the top 1 percent of the world hotels for the years 2007,2008'. 2010 no mean achievement . I had taken the executive rooms on the 20 th floor, spectacular views of the harbour ,excellent staff , best hospitality I have ever seen in an European hotel , they produced everything I asked for !!! Believe me friends u would be making a grave mistake if u didn't stay here, a tip. U get fantastic prices if u book well in advance and they never ever come down as u near the day of the stay,if possible go only for executive rooms, they serve unlimited snack and drinks in the executive lounge from 5 to 7 in the evening and full day for tea coffee juices cookies etc,do not rely too much on the shuttle they advertise half an hour to the central station it is no good ,buy a day tram pass instead by the way the breakfast is fantastic too.

Room Tip: Choose only the executive roms with harbour view j

We were only in Amsterdam for a day and so the Movenpick was perfect for us. Arriving on the train, it took us maybe five minutes to get to the hotel and the rooms have a phenomenal view of the harbour. The distance to the canals was perfect for a day of leisurely wandering. Lots of great cafes, restaurants and shops nearby. Bimhuis is right next door if you're looking for great jazz. The amenities of the rooms are comfortable, clean and luxurious. Would definitely stay again.

Dear guest,

What a pity that you could only spent one day in Amsterdam but we are happy to read that you made the most of it. And of course, that you enjoyed your stay in our hotel.

Next year will be a festive one in Amsterdam because of several celebrations and we hope you will have an opportunity to spend some more time in the city.

With kind regards,

Daniel Kaan

We stayed for ten days in late October to early November. Hotel is quite modern (only six years old), clean and the views are superb. Our standard room was largeerr than one would expect, compared to most NL hotels rooms (I have stayed in over 30 hotels in Amsterdam and NL in the last 16 years).

Was disappointed to find freeze dried coffee in the room..... surprising too, given the prominence of coffee in Dutch culture. So we ended up using room service for a morning pot of coffee.... a good value.

It's a good 10 to 15 minute walk to Central Station, or you can take the every half-hour hotel shuttle (reservation required). Tram 26 stop is right across the road... runs every 8 minutes; more frequently during rush hour.

As nice as this hotel is, I would choose a hotel in the centrum next trip. Movenpick is simply too remote from the centrum for my tastes. There is not much of interest near the hotel.... the hotel is located in what I would call a no-mans-land.... just modern, sterile office buildings nearby, a heavily used highway outside the hotel... no cafes or coffee shops near. A Subway sandwich shop, which opens at 9 am is near... and that is about it.

Great hotel if you are there on business. But I really missed not being in the centrum.

Room Tip: Ask for a floor close to he top 20th floor for best views, facing Amsterdam

Dear guest,

We appreciate the time you took to share your remarks with regard to your stay in our hotel. Indeed, we are located just outside the busy city centre but with excellent connections to 'the heart of the action'. Located on the banks of the river IJ offers a different - indeed stunning - view of the river and the city.

We hope you will visit us again next time you travel to Amsterdam.

With kind regards,

Daniel Kaan

I just spent two nights here while a friend and I explored Amsterdam. The hotel is fabulous with large bedrooms, great service, great views, etc. Make sure you are aware that there is a tram station directly across the street from the hotel. Do not walk to the train station or downtown if you don't have to. In winter it is frigidly cold and a long walk.

Dear guest,

We are happy to read that you spent a nice couple of days in Amsterdam and enjoyed your stay in our hotel, indeed conveniently connected with the city center by public transport. Winter time can be cold in Holland but we hope our hospitality kept you warm.

Please visit us again next time you travel to Holland, maybe in another season.

With kind regards,

We recently stayed at this hotel - for one night only (sadly). On checkin we were offered a free upgrade to a wonderful junior suite, with all the benefits! Very much appreciated!
The location is wonderful, close to town but far enough away to ensure a good nights sleep - very quiet.
We enjoyed the restaurants and bar on the lower floor. Breakfast was huge, plentiful food and variety, possibly the only negative was the chaos that is the breakfast rush on a Sunday morning - but then I understand such a large hotel could do nothing more.
Highly recommend this lovely, clean, modern hotel!
