I stayed at the Movenpick for 4 nights in March 2008. I had a room made for 2 (two twin beds pushed together) but it is perfect for 1 person. There was a closet but no place to truly store your clothing. Loved the super modern bathroom which was a good size. The bed was a little stiff and hard, but I got over that pretty easily. I was very happy to find the room had a small refrigerator. There was no place close by as an alternative to eating in the hotel restaurant, so the frig came in handy if you wanted to bring and keep your own water, juice and snacks. My room was on the 10th floor which gave me a wonderful view of the IJ.

However, it is a bit away from the action of Amsterdam. The hotel provided a shuttle to Centrale Station every hour (depending on if they had enough gas for the van) or if there is enough space. I called to have the van pick me up and was told they had no gas. 20 minutes later while trying to hail a cab, the van driver waves at me from a stop light - and keeps heading back toward the hotel. It costs 8 Euro to cab from Centrale Station but tram line 26 will put you about 5 minutes walking away from the hotel for 1.60 Euro. Outside of those options, you can walk to the hotel from the train station in about 20 minutes.

I felt safe and very comfortable at this hotel and would stay again if I can get the same EXCELLENT rate thru Priceline (less than $150 per night).

Hotel close to Central Station. Rooms clean and well kept. Large and comfortable bed good size room. Bathroom large with large shower. Views from upper floor rooms gives a great panorama of the city. Breakfast was a good hot and cold buffet. Travel from airport by train was quick cheap and efficient. Trams easy to use and tram 25 & 26 leave you outside the hotel. Work on a new bit of canel outside the hotel meant a slightly longer walk but tram to pier terminal (Stay on Pier Terminal tram to line end just past the hotel as you do not have to cross the road) was slightly closer. Canel boats pick up is close to hotel and was worth the day ticket. Transport day(S)Travel pass is cheap and worth the cost even if only used several times as walking covers the city easily. Tram stop from Central Station to pier terminal was hard to find due to construction work outside central station ask for help it is near the bus station. Loved Amsterdam and the hotel was great for our 3 night stay.

Very friendly staff, Silk restaurant was lovely, tasty food and nice decor.

I spent a long week-end in Amsterdam staying in this Hotel.
It was my fault not to have checked before that the hotel was a 100% NO SMOKING structure and clients themselves could be fined of 150 euros if smoking, even inside their own rooms.
That fact, even if didn'nt affect me, as I am a no-smoker, drove my wife close to a hysterical crisis as she is used to have a cigarette when she wakes up and before going to bed.
Even if I understand that it is my fault, still I think that it sounds strange not to have care for the "poor smokers" in the in city of the red light district, of free drugs, homosexual weddings and a long tradition of tollerance.
A second problem was the the duvets were synthetic and this fact ended up with a erythema.
The girl at the concierge understood immediatly the reason of my problem and I had duvets changed with no-synthetic ones.
But, I ask, if they know that that fact can give problems, why they do not put no-synthetic duvets from the beginning.
I do not think I'll ever go back tho Mowenpick, even if I have to say that position is fantastic and rooms are perfect.
