“Not worth the money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2011

The hotel's meeting rooms and restaurant are idyllic but the overall look is a dissapointment. View from the room over the canal was impressive though. My "king" bed was two double beds pushed together but the deal breaker was the continuos noise coming from an event located near the hotel. When I called the front desk at 1 AM, the attendant casually told me that the event would last until 5 AM and all she could do is to give me ear plugs. Perhaps the management at the Moevenpick could not predict how a continuous bass beat could resonate through their hotel and even up to my 19th floor, but they get an 'F' for empathy. I'm checking out tomorrow and going to the Radisson

Dear Mr N.,

First of all, I wish to convey my sincere apologies for the noise next door. It was indeed an event that had been organized without conferring with us and was out of our control. We gave all the rooms on the other side of the hotel and gave the last floors to all remaining guests. We believe we minimized the number of complaints and indeed there was not much the staff could do about it. Rest assured that we have taken this with the owner of the Passenger terminal Amsterdam where the event was located.

Should you come back to Amsterdam, we would be more than happy to make up for this negative experience. No new similar events are planned for the near future, these remain rather exceptionnal and we have scheduled talks to adress this issue further.

Kind regards,

The Hotel Manager

I recently spent four nights at the Amsterdam Movenpick, attending a business conference. Everything about my stay was ideal. My room was well-appointed, with a great view out over the Ij. The conference facilities were first rate. The buffet meals were all terrific, with a wide selection of offerings. In addition, I loved the location: right on the Ij, near Central Station, and the great concert hall next door, a short walk to the heart of the city.

Room Tip: The higher up, the better, for the views over the Ij.

we had an all too brief stay at the movenpick recently and really enjoyed it. it's a little bit out of the central area but they operate a free shuttle bus that will pick you up from and drop you off at central station in less than 5 minutes, so there's no great issue at all. it's also walkable to / from central station in about 15 minutes but that would depend on the weather!

front desk staff very helpful and informative and the generously sized room had a great view of the city.

loved the half price cocktails in the bar on friday night - sadly, the promo is only on for an hour but maybe that's just as well !

we will definitely reurn to the movenpick in the future and i recommend it to anyone reading this review.

I stayed here during a 3 day seminar. A pleasent stay, nice staff, good rooms and decent food.

It is not far from the centrum and you can take the tram. Nice area, view over the canal and central station. Not much noise and enough room in the restaurant during rush hour.

Stayed there for a conference. Rooms are quite large and with all the usual things equipped. Bathroom is also quite well sized, but only with a bathtub. If you take a shower, the bathroom floor might get wet.
TV has the usual channels with CNN and a few German channels, but it is quite small.
Internet is free for speeds up to 500 kb/s, so if you have a larger file you need to buy it at around Euro 15 or so per day. It is WLAN based though out the hotel, expect for the lobby. In the room is also a LAN connector and cable. Log on is a bit annoying, as you first log on, then get a password, then you need to log on further with a new password and name.
Food was OK, nothing special, but good. Breakfast was also good and plenty of choices.
There was a minibar in the room, but it is empty. You need to order stuff though room service. Which is a pity, because at least I expect a water bottle in the room.
There is a 15 min walk to the train station. If the weather is good, it is no problem. Taxi from the airport will cost about Euro 50 and it takes about 30 min. The train costs less than Euro 5 and takes also 30 min or less.
I would stay there again.

We were very happy to stay at this hotel for a few days this summer. The hotel is new, clean, and comfortable. The rooms are spacious and have great views of the IJ river. They accepted our priceline bid of $85/night (plus taxes) and this was a fantastic deal considering the amenities and the great location. The hotel is close to the Centraal Train Station and there is a free shuttle if you'd prefer not to make the 10 minute walk. From the station, it is easy to catch trams to anywhere in Amsterdam (and trains to anywhere in the Netherlands). There are two music venues (the Muziekgebouw and the Bimhuis) in the same complex as the hotel featuring classical and jazz performances.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better river views.
