“Great hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2009

We stayed at the Park Plaza for four nights in March 2009 and found it an ideal base for touring Amsterdam. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was well furnished, clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was as good as anywhere else we have stayed in a European city. Use of the safe in the room was free - something you don't get very often in my experience. There was a coffee maker with a plentiful supply of coffee, milk etc and the hotel bar was well stocked, if a little pricey, but that's probably due, in part, to the pound's weakness against the euro. I recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good quality, well priced, hotel in Amsterdam.

We stayed at this hotel during the summer of 2008. The hotel is close to museum square and dam square is accessible by tram which is available right outside the hotel. Though the hotel is on the tram route, it is secluded. The rooms were very clean and the service was good. The breakfast spread was ok. The Vondel park is closeby and a huge park where you can enjoy a leisurely walk.
The weather during our stay was very pleasant and we had an enjoyable time there.

This is a great little hotel that is out of the centre and away from the drunken stag/hen parties. The hotel is small, the rooms are clean and the staff friendly and helpful. It did cost us EUR25 from Central Station in a taxi to get to the hotel though. We walked around the area on the following day though and found we were close to the museums and Heineken Experience and just a short tram ride from the centre of the City. Would definitely recommend the hotel and go back myself.

  • Liked — Really friendly and helpful staff
  • Disliked — The location was great, but it was expensive in the taxi to get there

My husband and I stayed at the Vondel Park Hotel in January 2009 for 4 nights. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Thought it in not in the heart of the city, it is only 10 minute tram ride to the Dam Square, and the tram stop is only a block away from the hotel. (tram no: 22 i think)
The rooms are small, as in most hotel rooms in Europe. But it was well furnished, well-stocked and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. There is a grocery store a short walk away, ask the hotel for directions.
The only downside for me was the reed thin walls, which would typically not be an issue, but we had a bunch of inconsiderate hotel guests, who kept slamming doors and talking aloud in the hallways late in the night. To the hotel staff’s credit, they did come and warn the guests to stop making noise.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to everybody.

This was a fabulous hotel. Why? Not because of any sort of hoity-toity service or amenities, but because it gives you a lot for the price you're paying.

What you get: Clean room, privacy, decent space (in my case, I stayed in the adjacent building, 4th floor), comfortable bed, basic furniture. Decent service with excellent English-speaking staff. Close to major tram that will take you right into the city square, about 5 minutes or so. Also close to certain museums like the Van Gogh. Quiet neighborhood ideal for walking. Vondelpark is your backyard!!!!!!!!!!!! Incredibly small bathroon but in my case, I had a completely private bathroom, opaque door, etc. Mini-bar.

What you don't get: A central location, over-friendly service (the service is there if you need it but don't expect them to fall over backwards to greet you, smile, etc.), good food/drinks, a lot of noise from the streets, room service.

This is a great hotel if you're on a budget, or even if you're not, and staying for some time. You get the nice, quiet streets after a hard day of sight-seeing and noise. Skip the breakfast or any food the hotel serves. There's a fantastic supermarket with everything you will need only a 7-minute walk away. Also, great restaurants on that same street that will do take-away. Get some groceries and some salads, etc. at the take-out places and store them in the mini-bar.

A good plus is that you can check your email and surf the web in the hotel lobby for free. The hotel lobby will also arrange for transportation service to the airport or call a cab.

This is a great hotel, with the tram stopping right outside you are in a great location away from the hustle & bustle. There are plenty of nice restaurants within walking distance too, Pulpo being within a 5 min walks and serves great food (The steak is a fave). If you don't fancy breakfast at the hotel which I think is a little pricey if you don't want the full monty, you can turn right out of the hotel and within 5 mins walk you will find a small cafe & bakery. If you want to walk through the Vondel Park there is also a cafe next to the film museum that serves breakfast. The rooms at the hotel are very trendy, if you like privacy when using the bathroom then not ideal but I maintain that this is the best shower you will find in a hotel. The staff are very helpful and always happy. I have stayed at this hotel for business many many times and choose come back here for a romantic weekend with the hubby, it was just as good. Finally dutch food can be hard to find, I recommend Moeders which serves food like your Mum would do if she was Dutch! It's a quirky place with mismatched grocery and pictures of diners Mum's on the wall.
