We stayed at the Bellevue for three nights as we were going to watch the Amsterdam Six Day (indoor cycling track racing). The location is fantastic particularly if you wanted to see a lot of the city as you are literally across the road from the central station, the tram stopsand the canal tours . We stayed in a double room on the fifth floor at the front of the building, which was relatively quiet considering you are in a very busy location. The decor is essentially white and quite minimalistic with a feature wall of blue water (looks like you are in the sea!). We had a bath with a shower, however no curtain so it was essentially a wet room. The cleaners did an excellent housekeeping job and no matter how wet the floor was, it was always immaculate when you returned after a days sightseeing.
The staff on the front desk were also extremely helpful. The tourist office didnt know about the bike racing or the location, but our receptionist looked it up on the internet and advised us on alternative transport methods, eg what number tram or bus and and where to catch them from. Reception staff also gave good recommendations about where to go and where to eat. Try the Cafe Kobalt which was less than 10 minutes walk from the hotel.
Breakfast was buffet service with a decent choice of continental or cooked. We didnt eat in the hotel in the evening but we did try a desert and coffee one afternoon which was excellent.

  • Liked — Great central location coupled with very helpful staff
  • Disliked — Large gaps under the room doors which let light and noise into the bedrooms
  • Tips/Secrets: — If you intend visiting lots of Museums, buy a 'I am Amsterdam 24/48hr pass which also gives you free travel on buses and trams and represents excellent value.

Went to the Bellevue optimistic and excited after reading the reviews here. Hmm. My room ended up being okay, but the front desk staff - what a rude, nasty experience.

I came into AMS early, as most flights do from the US. I arrived in at the front desk with a travel-weary smile at about 9 am, and was curtly and dismissively told that my room would not be ready until 2 pm. (The 30-something woman who works day shift Sun-Thurs exhibits very rude behavior.)

I burned the day in Haarlem -- well worth the 15 min train ride, and came back at 3 pm, just so I would not run into this abrasive, brash woman.

I did ask if I could please have the "Corporate" special rate that is advertised on the website -- BEWARE, they do not honor that rate or that deal if you have "already booked at another rate" (?? what the...? ) , and do all they can to make sure that you cannot switch to the better rate. So much for customer care. Or doing the right thing, just to be honor the rate. The web site special is a lie.

The room was okay, very small but quiet even facing the street. Bring your own shampoo, and washcloths. Expect flimsy, worn-out towels. After one breakfast there (icy cold scrambled eggs and watery coffee at 7 am) I figured that the Bellevue is good for sleeping only. Walk a block or two down the street to the Ramada for breakfast -- same pricey deal (10 Euros) but much, much better food -- and it OPENS ON TIME.

It seems the Bellevue suffers from too many rules, a gently hostile attitude towards customers, and overall inflexibility. All the clean rooms in the world will not make up for stifling and rude experiences with the staff.

Use the Bellevue for sleeping only. Don't expect much and you will be okay there.

  • Liked — Location and clean rooms
  • Disliked — Rude front desk staffer, bad restaurant, no instruction on how to turn on electricity in room.
  • Tips/Secrets: — Sleep only, don't expect anything but rude at the desk.

This is a well located hotel, clean and welcoming and I would recommend to all. It was more expensive than other similar hotels I've visited but I think you do pay a bit more in Amsterdam. Breakfast was good, a bit more on offer than the average continental breakfast and on one day the staff were more than happy to provide breakfast in bed (on the request of my partner for a birthday treat for myself). We experienced no problems with noise even though our room was on the front. My only complaint were the twin beds, the room was designed to have a double bed so it seemed crazy not to have one!

Make no mistake, the Bellevue Hotel is a 'no frills' budget hotel but there are plenty of good things to recommend. At the top of the list is it's location and proximity to Central Station. Roundtrip from the airport was £4/(6 euros). That beats the heck out of the £30/(45 euros) I've paid in the past to take a cab. And the trip is shorter by train. D'oh!

This was a 'last minute' trip and I booked into the Bellevue on Expedia. I paid £90/(135euros) per night with breakfast included. I bet if you book in advance you can get a better deal than I did.

I was in room #110 which is an interior room. I was traveling alone and expected a 'single room', it was adequate for me but two people would be hard pressed, literally, to move about comfortably. (Prepare to be creative if you have a lot of luggage.) The only window looks out onto an air shaft. If 'the view' is important to you... then room #110 is not for you.

The only way I can describe the room, it's decor, and funishings is 'minimalist'. Apart from one wall covered in 'watery' blue wall paper everything is very, very white: three of the walls, the bedding, the plastic table, the two plastic chairs, and the whole of the bathroom. In such a small space the white 'works'; making the room seem larger and brighter. (I have to wonder how it will age, this is a relatively new hotel.) The carpet was seagrass and already looking a little worse for wear. The closet is tiny but it contains a safe. The room is equpped with a flat screen television with good reception. (Parents might want to monitor what their children are watching in the later hours... the two movie channels are free... and offer an extraordinary range of entertainment.)

The bathroom is large in relation to the size of the sleeping area.
A simple solution for the shower would be a sturdy curtain that reaches to the floor.... but that doesn't exist... so you can expect to soak the entire floor when you shower. The towels were better than expected... and there were plenty of them. I understand that some rooms have a bathtub... that's the way to go.

The hotel breakfast is served from 7am till 10am although I skipped it both mornings in favor of Barney's. I highly recommend
the omelette, the hot chocolate, and the 'Amnesia Haze' at Barney's. I realize some people don't appreciate all that Barney's has to offer... and some people don't eat eggs.

If you're looking for clean, comfortable, inexpensive accomodations... then count on the Bellevue.

Excellent base location for touring/nightlife. Functional & clean, very small rooms, but if you're in Amsterdam why would you want to stay in your room? Thin walls though, and a little noisy with othe guests at night in the corridors, but very clean and modern looking.
