My girlfriend and I came to Amsterdam for a two night break and knowing nothing about the city attempted to pick a half decent hotel in a good location. We chose the Belle Vue hotel from the reports on Trip Advisor an were not disappointed, in fact it exceeded our expectations.
After stepping out of centraal station we were ready for navigating our way around the streets to find it but only had to cross the road and it there it was. And next to the oldest pub in the netherlands.
Firstly we came early, about 8:00 am and even though 2pm is the check in time, they allowed us to check in and leave our baggage in a secure room allowing us to begin our holiday instantly. You'd think this was standard practice but it's not always the case with some hotels.
Leaving the hotel we soon realised the great location right in the center, on the street parallel to the Damrak (good starting point) allowing you to access anywhere on foot. Niether my GF or I ever felt unsafe around the hotel.
The room was cosy (size) yet still bigger than some I have stayed in and Very clean and modern if a little clinical in decor. The embedded flat screen TV a nice touch.
Breakfast again was more than I've had before in European hotels including Cereal, croissants, bacon, sausage, eggs (boiled or scrambled), beans, fruit, juices tea coffee....etc We didn't eat here for dinner but the menu looked great and only 18 Euro's for 3 courses.
The staff were all welcoming warm and friendly and I would not think twice about staying here again or reccomending it to someone thinking of visiting Amsterdam. As a base for a short break am pushed to find any down points.
