Delightful B&B just west of the large Vondelpark in a local neighbourhood area rather than tourist one- yet still full of life and character with a canal, and good restaurants/ cafés/bars and food shops. Easy parking on street in front of B&B ( free on Sunday/ bank hols) , and 5 mins walk to tram stops into old city or station ( 2.60 euros, 10 mins ride). The host, Paul ( who speaks perfect English as his wife is English) provides an excellent introduction, with photocopied details/ maps, to the area and city. Our simple all white room with red carpet, with shower en suite, had pretty red - flowered furnishings and vase of fresh red roses, plus a decanter of blackcurrant gin! It also had its own quiet private outdoor garden/seating area. Two rooms shared a downstairs 'kitchen' with tea/ coffee making facilities, breakfast cereals, plus biscuits and a homemade cake/ bun provided. A fridge also allows you to store items. At 8.45 a knock on the door heralds a food treat tray being left beside the room door (which must change daily) but basically yoghurt/quark, fresh juice, boiled egg/ omelette, bread, fruit buns, butter and jam (you have to make your own hot drink!). My only slightest quibble is lack of shampoo/ shower body wash ( and I realise it may reflect a 'green' ethos), luckily we had some of our own. Some of you may find the insistence of taking your outdoor shoes off inside the house odd, but in our case it's a bit like home! Highly recommended accommodation, and try the Indonesian Blaauw restaurant 5 mins walk away.
